      • Planning of business process execution in Business Process Management environments

        Efficient management of business processes is a key element of enterprise information systems for organizations operating in a competitive business environment. Despite methodology introduced to enhance the effectiveness of Business Process Management, research on the initial phase of system implementation has typically focused on the accurate execution of processes, not efficiency. The enhancement of process efficiency in various manufacturing applications, however, has received much attention over the past several decades. Unfortunately, due to the dissimilarities between business and manufacturing processes, optimized manufacturing processes cannot be applied directly to business processes. This study introduces a methodology for incorporating business process semantics and alternative paths in the Business Process Management structure. The approach entails mixed integer programming (MIP) formulation for a business-process execution plan and a meta-heuristic algorithm to obtain good solutions for multi-activity processes.         BPM-based integration of supply chain process modeling, executing and monitoring

        <P> Due to increased competition in business environments, many companies implement Supply Chain Management (SCM), which utilizes advanced information technologies. Since the execution of the Supply Chain Process (SCP) requires interaction and information sharing among multiple organizations, there have been efforts to apply Business Process Management (BPM) techniques to SCM implementation. Whereas previous research has focused mainly on automated execution of the SCP, effective SCM requires the integrated lifecycle management of SCP that includes modeling, execution, and monitoring. Thus, in this research, we develop, based on the BPM system, an integrated architecture to support modeling, execution and monitoring of SCP. To model the SCP, we propose to use Business Process Execution Language (BPEL), which facilitates easy process sharing among supply chain members who adopt heterogeneous information systems. Since SCM decisions require complex analytical calculations concerning multiple different companies, it is necessary to separate the process logic and the decision algorithm. Thus, we developed an SCP execution structure in which the decision algorithm is implemented as an agent that is invoked using Web services. While BPM enables process monitoring, the multi-organizational environment considered here involves the important issue of the setting and controlling of access levels of each company's process information to be monitored. To address this problem, we propose a role-based supply chain process monitoring (RSCPM) model. A prototype system is implemented.</P>

      • Comprehensive Method of Enhancing business process efficiency using BPMS

        When a company uses the BPM (Business Process Management) system, BP (Business Process) efficiency can be influenced by different task assignments and performance sequence of task performers. Consequently, improvement of BP efficiency depends on two different perspectives: PEP (Process Engine Perspective) and TPP (Task Performer Perspective). PEP focuses on task assignment to proper task performer and TPP decides performance sequence of each task performer to improve BP efficiency. We developed a comprehensive approach that applies the two perspectives and build-time and run-time phases are considered separately. For the build-time phase, a new task assignment policy has been introduced from managerial view point by applying Analytic Process Model (APM), and for the run-time phase, a scheduling algorithm has been applied to improve BP efficiency. Furthermore, for the validation of our approach, we compared with previous research by conducting simulation of sample processes.

        BPM을 이용한 웹서비스 기반의 SCM 프로세스 실행

        기업간 경쟁의 격화와 정보기술의 발달로 인하여 많은 기업들이 공급사슬관리(SCM)를 도입하고 있다. 이에 따라, 공급사슬상의 관련 기업간의 상호작용과 정보공유에 기반한 공급사슬 통합이 추진되고 있으며, 웹서비스와 같은 시스템에 독립적인 기술 적용의 필요성이 제기되고 있다. 웹서비스를 이용하면서도 높은 수준의 공급사슬 통합이 이루어지기 위해서는, 여러 상호작용주체가 참여하는 글로벌 프로세스 수준에서 SCM 프로세스를 관리하고 제어할 필요가 있으며, 본 논문에서는 비즈니스 프로세스 자동화 및 관리도구로 최근 각광을 받고 있는 BPM을 도입하여 각 업무단위가 웹서비스로 구성된 환경에서 SCM을 구성하는 프로세스를 효과적으로 통합하여 실행하는 방안을 제시한다. 이러한 접근법은 SCM 프로세스의 진행과정을 보다 효율적으로 관리, 모니터링하는 것이 가능하며, SCM 프로세스의 수행결과를 토대로 프로세스의 개선에 대한 방안을 모색할 수 있다. 또한, SCM 프로세스의 진행과정에서 의사결정이 필요한 경우 이에 대한 지원 에이전트를 웹서비스로 구성하여 보다 신속한 프로세스 수행을 가능하게 한다. Keen competence in business environments induces companies to introduce Supply Chain Management (SCM), which is accelerated by emerging information technology. Consequently, supply chain integration requires interacting and information sharing among the companies participating in the supply chain. Web services, platform independent technologies, are recently used for SCM. However, web services themselves do not provide high level supply chain integration. Therefore, the ways to control and manage global processes over supply chain need to be developed. In this paper, we introduce a method of executing and managing supply chain process using Business Process Management (BPM) system. BPM system is a software system to support an efficient execution and management of complex business processes, and it is applied to supply chain processes. The supply chain processes can be regarded network of activities, each of which is served as web service and related to one of the participants. Our approach enables not only efficient managing but also effective monitoring of the process, which can be a good basis for improvement of the processes. For a speedy execution of processes, we provide a method to support decision making in course of executing process by software agents, which are also web services.

        워크플로우 기반의 XML문서의 변경저장 모델

        최근의 비즈니스 환경의 변화는 각 기업이 서로 상호작용을 빈번하게 하는 것을 요구하고 있다. 이러한 환경의 변화에서 정보시스템간의 정보교환을 원활히 하는 것을 바탕으로 통합이 주요한 키워드로 등장하고 있다. 특히, e-비즈니스와 같이 여러 기업이 상호작용하는 경우 문서의 이력과 변경과정을 체계적으로 기록하고 추적하는 것이 중요하다. 본 논문에서는 워크플로우에 의해 자동화되어 실행되는 비즈니스 프로세스의 진행과정에서 XML 문서의 변경을 자동으로 찾아 기록하고 이를 효과적으로 저장하는 새로운 방법론을 제시한다. 또한 본 논문은 이를 바탕으로 프로세스의 이상상황에서 문서를 이전 상태로 회복시키는 효과적인 방법론을 제안한다. 본 논문의 유용성을 증명하기 위하여 원형시스템을 구현하였으며, 간단한 실험을 통하여 저장의 효율성을 보였다. Recent business environments require a company to communicate frequently with other companies. This makes it essential to use XML (eXtensible Markup Language) documents for integration of information systems. Especially in e-Business environments, change management of documents is important to record and trace the history of the documents. In this paper, we propose a new method of storing a document by detecting changes automatically and reconstructing the document version when a user requests. In addition, based on the method, we also propose a model to recover a document into previous state even when system errors occur. A prototype system is implemented on top of a workflow system and an experiment is carried out to present efficiency of our method. Our approach provides efficiency of storage space and convenient management of documents.
