The seasonal trends of plasma protein and glucose concentrations in marbled soles(Limanda yokohamae) and greenlings(Hexagrammos otakii), and the influence of transport stressor on those levels were investigated. Total plasma protein levels of marbled soles and greenlings in late spring and summer were significantly higher than those in winter(January). Plasma glucose levels were consistently increased according to elevation of water temperature both in marbled soles and greenlings. Transport stressor gave rise to decrease of plasma protein levels and increase of blood glucose levels.

During the course of studying the helminth fauna from the fishes of the Korean coastal waters, two bucephalid species, Dolichoenterum longissimum Ozaki, 1924 and Prosorhynchus aculeatus Odhner, 1905, were collected from the alimentary canal of the conger eel, Conger myriaster. D. longissimum was characterized by having the ovary between the testes, and 7∼8 horn-like projections on the ventral side of rhynchus. P. aculeatus was distinguished from the other species by the location of the mouth or the opening position of the excretory vesicle. These two bucephalid digeneans are new to the Korean fauna.
Design of a Robust Stable Flux Observer for Induction Motors
Huh, Sung-Hoi,Seo, Sam-Jun,Choy, Ick,Park, Gwi-Tae The Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers 2007 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.2 No.2
This paper presents a robustly adaptive flux observer for speed-sensorless induction motor control. The proposed approach employs additional robustifying signals to cope with the parametric uncertainties instead of designing an estimator, which has been normally used in power electronic drives. For that, the sliding-mode like adaptive controls are designed and their gain parameters are determined so that the observer dynamics are stable in the sense of Lyapunov, and furthermore they can guarantee the robustness against parametric uncertainties in induction motor systems. Estimated rotor speed is to be used to generate feedback control signal for the speed sensorless vector control system. To show the validity and efficiency of the proposed system, simulation results are presented.

Fine structural changes of the germ cells during spermatogenesis in the goldeye rockfish, Sebastes thompsoni were examined by means of the transmission and scanning electron microscopy. A spermatogonium has a large nucleus with a single nucleolus in the interphase. Primary spermatocytes are characterized by the formation of chromatin clumps and presence of the synaptonemal complex in the nucleus. The nucleoplasm of secondary spermatocytes is more condensed than that of primary spermatocytes, and the cytoplasm contains numerous mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi complex. The nuclei of spermatids in metamorphosis show sickle-like shape as the nucleoplasm becomes more condensed. In the cytoplasm of spermatids, the proacrosomal granules are not found at all. A spermatozoon consists of head, neck and tail. The acrosome is absent in the head. Four to five cytoplasmic collars are observed in the posterior portion of the head of spermatozoon. The well developed axonemal lateral fins are observed in the flagellum of spermatozoon.

Seasonal variation of the crab community in the eelgrass (Zostera marina) bed in Kwangyang Bay was studied based on the monthly collections through a year of 1994. The crab community in the eelgrass bed was composed of 21 species representing 12 families. The community was dominated by Charybdis japonica, Telmessus acutidens, Hemigrapsus penicillatus, and Pugettia quadridens. Crabs collected in the study area were primarily small-sized species or early juveniles of large crab species. Most individuals had carapace width smaller than 25 ㎜ except C. japonica and T. acutidens which had maximum carapace width over 85 ㎜. More than 5 species were collected every month except January and February (4 and 3 species, respectively). The peak abundance occurred in August and low abundances in autumn and winter. Species diversity indices showed that more diverse crabs were collected in spring and stammer, and lesser ones in autumn and winter. The crabs in the study area can be grouped into three groups on the basis of their occurrence patterns: resident species, seasonal species, and temporary species. More abundant and more diverse crabs were collected during nighttime than daytime.

Feeding habits of Conger myriaster collected from the eelgrass bed in Kwangyang Bay from January 1994 to December 1994 were studied. C. myriaster was a carnivore which consumed mainly fishes, shrimps arid crabs. Its diets included small quantities of amphipods, gastropods, cephalopods, polychaetes, mysids, cumaceans and isopods. It showed ontogenetic changes in feeding habits. Small individuals preyed on shrimps, fishes, crabs, and gammarid amphipods in nearly equal proportions. While the portion of the stomach contents attributable to shrimps and gammarid amphipods decreased with increasing fish size, consumption of fishes increased progressively. C. myriaster showed vary constant prey selection regardless of prey availability. Especially fishes were heavily selected by this species throughout the year, although availability of fishes was lower thin any otter prey organisms in the eelgrass bed.
