Expression and regulation of Angiopoietins and their receptor Tie-2 in sika deer antler

        Hong-Liang Zhang,Bin Guo,Zhan-Peng Yue,Lu Zhang,Zhan-Qing Yang,Shuang Geng,Kai Wang,Hai-Fan Yu 한국통합생물학회 2017 Animal cells and systems Vol.21 No.3

The cartilage vascularization and chondrocyte survival are essential for endochondral ossification which occurs in the process of antler growth. Angiopoietins (Ang) is a family of major angiogenic growth factors and involved in regulating the vascularization. However, the expression and regulation of Angs in the antler are still unknown. The aim of this study is to localize the expression of Ang-1, Ang-2 and their receptor Tie-2 in sika deer antler using in situ hybridization and focused on analyzing the regulation of testosterone, estrogen, all-trans-retinoic acid (ATRA) and 9cRA on their expression in antler chondrocytes. The results showed that Ang-1, Ang-2 and Tie-2 were highly expressed in antler chondrocytes. Administration of testosterone to antler chondrocytes led to a notable increase in the expression of Ang-1 and Tie-2, and a reduction in the expression of Ang-2. The similar result was also observed after estrogen treatment. In contrast, ATRA and 9cRA could inhibit the expression of Ang-1 in antler chondrocytes and heighten the expression of Ang-2. Simultaneously, ATRA could downregulate the expression of Tie-2 in antler chondrocytes at 12 and 24 h, while 9cRA upregulate the expression of Tie-2 at 3 and 6 h. Collectively, Ang-1, Ang-2 and Tie-2 are expressed in antler chondrocytes and their expression can be affected by testosterone, estrogen, ATRA and 9cRA.

Guaranteeing Deadlines for Inter-Data Center Transfers

        Zhang, Hong,Chen, Kai,Bai, Wei,Han, Dongsu,Tian, Chen,Wang, Hao,Guan, Haibing,Zhang, Ming Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, 2017 IEEE/ACM transactions on networking Vol.25 No.1

<P>Inter-data center wide area networks (inter-DC WANs) carry a significant amount of data transfers that require to be completed within certain time periods, or deadlines. However, very little work has been done to guarantee such deadlines. The crux is that the current inter-DC WAN lacks an interface for users to specify their transfer deadlines and a mechanism for provider to ensure the completion while maintaining high WAN utilization. In this paper, we address the problem by introducing a deadline-based network abstraction (DNA) for inter-DC WANs. DNA allows users to explicitly specify the amount of data to be delivered and the deadline by which it has to be completed. The malleability of DNA provides flexibility in resource allocation. Based on this, we develop a system called Amoeba that implements DNA. Our simulations and test bed experiments show that Amoeba, by harnessing DNA's malleability, accommodates 15% more user requests with deadlines, while achieving 60% higher WAN utilization than prior solutions.</P>

      • The Methylenetetrahydrofolate Reductase C677T Polymorphism Influences Risk of Esophageal Cancer in Chinese

        Qu, Hong-Hong,Cui, Li-Hong,Wang, Ke,Wang, Peng,Song, Chun-Hua,Wang, Kai-Juan,Zhang, Jian-Ying,Dai, Li-Ping Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.5

Methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) plays a central role in folate metabolism. This study with 381 esophageal cancer patients and 432 healthy controls was conducted to examine the association of MTHFR C677T and A1298C polymorphisms with susceptibility to esophageal cancer (EC) in a Chinese population. Compared with the CC genotype of MTHFR C677T, subjects carrying homozygote TT and variant genotypes (CT+TT) demonstrated reduced risk of EC with adjusted ORs (95% CI) of 0.44 (0.28-0.71) and 0.57 (0.37-0.88), respectively. However, no association was found between the MTHFR A1298C polymorphism and the risk of EC. Comparing to haplotype CA, haplotypes TA and TC could reduce the susceptibility to EC with adjusted ORs (95% CI) of 0.61(0.47-0.79) and 0.06 (0.01-0.43), respectively. In conclusion, the present study suggested that the MTHFR C677T polymorphism can markedly influence the risk of EC in Chinese.

Nonlinear Dust-acoustic Solitary Waves in a Dust Plasma with Two-temperature Nonthermal Ions

Kai-Biao Zhang,Hong-Yan Wang 한국물리학회 2009 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.55 No.4

The effect of two-temperature nonthermal ions on small, but flnite, amplitude nonlinear dust- acoustic waves (DAW) is studied in a dusty plasma consisting of a negative dust °fluid, Boltzmann distributed electrons, and two-temperature nonthermally distributed ions. We derive a Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation governing the dust-acoustic solitary waves by using the reductive perturbation method. We show that the presence of two-temperature nonthermal ions modi¯es the properties of dust-acoustic solitary structures significantly and may allow rarefactive and compressive solitary waves to coexist. Planar Dust-acoustic Waves in Electron-positron-ion-dust Plasmas with Dust Size Distribution

Hong-Yan Wang,Kai-Biao Zhang 한국물리학회 2014 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.64 No.11

Nonlinear dust-acoustic solitary waves which are described with a Kortweg-de vries (KdV) equationby using the reductive perturbation method, are investigated in a planar unmagnetized dustyplasma consisting of electrons, positrons, ions and negatively-charged dust particles of different sizesand masses. The effects of the power-law distribution of dust and other plasma parameters on thedust-acoustic solitary waves are studied. Numerical results show that the dust size distribution hasa significant influence on the propagation properties of dust-acoustic solitons. The amplitudes ofsolitary waves in the case of a power-law distribution is observed to be smaller, but the solitonvelocity and width are observed to be larger, than those of mono-sized dust grains with an averagedust size. Our results indicate that only compressed solitary waves exist in dusty plasma withdifferent dust species. The relevance of the present investigation to interstellar clouds is discussed.

      • Reasonably completed state assessment of the self-anchored hybrid cable-stayed suspension bridge: An analytical algorithm

        Kai Wang,Wen-ming Zhang,Jie Chen,Zhe-hong Zhang 국제구조공학회 2024 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.90 No.2

In order to solve the problem of calculating the reasonable completed bridge state of a self-anchored hybrid cable-stayed suspension bridge (SA-HCSB), this paper proposes an analytical method. This method simplifies the main beam into a continuous beam with multi-point rigid supports and solves the support reaction forces. According to the segmented catenary theory, it simultaneously solves the horizontal forces of the main span main cables and the stay cables and iteratively calculates the equilibrium force system on the main beam in the collaborative system bridge state while completing the shape finding of the main span main cable and stay cables. Then, the horizontal forces of the side span main cables and stay cables are obtained based on the balance of horizontal forces on the bridge towers, and the shape finding of the side spans are completed according to the segmented catenary theory. Next, the difference between the support reaction forces of the continuous beam with multiple rigid supports obtained from the initial and final iterations is used to calculate the load of ballast on the side span main beam. Finally, the axial forces and strains of each segment of the main beam and bridge tower are obtained based on the loads applied by the main cable and stay cables on the main beam and bridge tower, thereby obtaining analytical data for the bridge in the reasonable completed state. In this paper, the rationality and effectiveness of this analytical method are verified through a case study of a SA-HCSB with a main span of 720m in finite element analysis. At the same time, it is also verified that the equilibrium force of the main beam under the reasonably completed bridge state can be obtained through iterative calculation. The analytical algorithm in this paper has clear physical significance, strong applicability, and high accuracy of calculation results, enriching the shape-finding method of this bridge type.

Dust-acoustic Solitary Waves of the Modified KdV Equation in a Warm Dusty Plasma with Cold and Hot Nonthermal Ions

Hong-Yan Wang,Kai-Biao Zhang 한국물리학회 2013 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.63 No.6

A theoretical investigation has been made for the propagation of small, but finite, nonlinear dustacousticwaves (DAW) in a collisionless, unmagnetized dust plasma that contains hot negativelychargeddust particles, cold nonthermal ions, hot nonthermal ions and Maxwellian-distributed electrons. The reductive perturbation method is employed to reduce the basic set of fluid equationsto the modified Korteweg-de Vried (KdV) equation. How the amplitudes and the widths of thedust-acoustic waves vary with the plasma parameters is studied by using numerical simulations. Results show that not only the fast ion but also the number densities and the temperatures of thedust, the cold ions, the hot ions and the electrons all can play significant roles in determining thefeatures of the amplitude and the width.

The visible and ultraviolet organic light-emitting diodes with germanium dioxide as facile solution-processed anode buffer layer

        Kai Xu,Zhenchang Tang,Yan Zhang,Wanshu Li,Haiou Li,Lihui Wang,Li-Ming Liu,Hong-Hang Wang,Feng Chi,Xiaowen Zhang 한국물리학회 2019 Current Applied Physics Vol.19 No.10

Germanium dioxide (GeO2) aqueous solutions are facilely prepared and the corresponding anode buffer layers (ABLs) with solution process are demonstrated. Atomic force microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy measurements show that solution-processed GeO2 behaves superior film morphology and enhanced work function. Using GeO2 as ABL of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), the visible device with tris(8-hydroxy-quinolinato)aluminium as emitter gives maximum luminous efficiency of 6.5 cd/A and power efficiency of 3.5 lm/W, the ultraviolet device with 3-(4-biphenyl)-4-phenyl-5-tert-butylphenyl- 1,2,4-triazole as emitter exhibits short-wavelength emission with peak of 376 nm, full-width at halfmaximum of 42 nm, maximum radiance of 3.36 mW/cm2 and external quantum efficiency of 1.5%. The performances are almost comparable to the counterparts with poly (3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly (styrenesulfonate) as ABL. The current, impedance, phase and capacitance as a function of voltage characteristics elucidate that the GeO2 ABL formed from appropriate concentration of GeO2 aqueous solution favors hole injection enhancement and accordingly promoting device performance.

Ischemic postconditioning protects cardiomyocytes against ischemia/reperfusion injury by inducing MIP2

        Hong-Lin Zhu,Kang-Kai Wang,Xing Wei,Shun-Lin Qu,Chi Zhang,Xiao-Xia Zuo,Yan-Sheng Feng,Qi Luo,Guang-Wen Chen,Mei-Dong Liu,Lei Jiang,Xian-Zhong Xiao 생화학분자생물학회 2011 Experimental and molecular medicine Vol.43 No.8

Cardiomyocytes can resist ischemia/reperfusion (I/R)injury through ischemic postconditioning (IPoC)which is repetitive ischemia induced during the onset of reperfusion. Myocardial ischemic preconditioning up-regulated protein 2 (MIP2) is a member of the WD-40family proteins, we previously showed that MIP2 was up-regulated during ischemic preconditioning (IPC). As IPC and IPoC engaged similar molecular mechanisms in cardioprotection, this study aimed to elucidate whether MIP2 was up-regulated during IPoC and contributed to IPoC-mediated protection against I/R injury. The experiment was conducted on two models,an in vivo open chest rat coronary artery occlusion model and an in vitro model with H9c2 myogenic cells. In both models, 3 groups were constituted and randomly designated as the sham, I/R and IPoC/hypoxia postconditioning (HPoC) groups. In the IPoC group, after 45 min of ischemia, hearts were allowed three cycles of reperfusion/ischemia phases (each of 30 s duration)followed by reperfusion. In the HPoC group, after 6 h of hypoxia, H9c2 cells were subjected to three cycles of 10 minute reoxygenation and 10 minute hypoxia followed by reoxygenation. IPoC significantly reduced the infarct size, plasma level of Lactate dehydrogenase and creatine kinase MB in rats. 12 h after the reperfusion,MIP2 mRNA levels in the IPoC group were 10 folds that of the sham group and 1.4 folds that of the I/R group. Increased expression of MIP2 mRNA and attenuation of apoptosis were similarly observed in the HPoC group in the in vitro model. These effects were blunted by transfection with MIP2 siRNA in the H9c2cells. This study demonstrated that IPoC induced protection was associated with increased expression of MIP2. Both MIP2 overexpression and MIP2 suppression can influence the IPoC induced protection.
