최근 기후변화와 같은 환경적 요인으로 인해 예측하기 어려운 재난이 빈번하게 발생하고 있다. 재해 복원력(resilience)의 증진을 위해서 빠르고 정확한 정보 취득이 중요하므로, 차량, 무인기, 지상 라이다(LiDAR), 그리고 스마트폰 등의 여러 가지 센서 사용을 시나리오에 적용하여 운용 범위와 그 대략적인 소요 시간을 산출하였다. 본 연구는 2020년의 장기간의 장마로 특징적인 피해를 입은 지역 일부를 연구지역으로 삼아 연구를 수행하였으며, 그 결과를 비교하여 효율적인 재난 대응에 대한 해결책이 되고자 한다. 본 연구의 결과는 신속한 상황 파악을 통한 복원력 향상과 재난피해를 축소하려는 노력에 효과적인 대안을 제공할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
도심지역 지상기준점 분포에 따른 UAV 3D 모델링 비교 분석

본 연구는 지면과 건물의 고도가 급변하는 도심지역을 대상으로 UAV 이미지 기반 3D 정밀 모델링을 수행하기 위해 지상기준점의 고도 분포와 촬영각도를 고려하였다. 고도방향인 Z축 지상기준점 분포를 고려하기 위해 지면과 비지면으로 구분한 모바일매핑시스템의 포인트클라우드를 활용하였으며 반사강도로 구별되는 특징점인 도로마킹, 건물 간판 등을 지상기준점으로 취득했다. 이러한 점들을 UAV 항공사진측량에 사용하여 결과물인 포인트클라우드를 서로 비교 분석하였다. 실험결과 천저 방향 UAV 이미지를 이용하여 생성한 포인트클라우드는 비지면점을 포함한 경우와 포함하지 않은 경우 유의미한 차이가 나타났다.
Usefulness of a Guiding Sheath for Fluoroscopic Colorectal Stent Placement

<P><B>Objective</B></P><P>To investigate the technical feasibility, clinical usefulness, and safety of a guiding sheath in fluoroscopic stent placement for patients with malignant colorectal obstructions.</P><P><B>Materials and Methods</B></P><P>Between June 2007 and January 2011, fluoroscopic placement of a dual colorectal stent was attempted in a total of 97 patients with malignant colorectal obstructions. A polytetrafluoroethylene guiding sheath was used in patients in whom a stent delivery system failed to reach the obstruction. Usefulness of the sheath was evaluated depending on whether the sheath could successfully assist the stent delivery system reach its area of interest.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>The guiding sheath was needed in 22 patients (15 men, 7 women; age range, 33-77 years; mean age, 59 years). The overall success rate for passing the sheath to the area of interest was 100%. There were no procedure-related deaths or major complications. The majority of the patients reported mild discomfort. In 2 of 22 patients with successful passing of the sheath to the area of interest, stent placement failed because of failure in the negotiation of a guide wire through the obstruction.</P><P><B>Conclusion</B></P><P>Using a guiding sheath seems to be easy, safe and useful in fluoroscopic stent placement for patients with malignant colorectal obstructions.</P>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The airway is the major entry route of pathogens due to continuous gas exchange with the environment. In particular, the nasal epithelial layer is the common site of airborne mucotropic virus infections. The inflammatory response to such infections must be tightly controlled due to its non-specific nature. Unrestrained inflammation breaks down the physiological mucosal defense system and leads to secondary bacterial or fungal infections. Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is a prevalent inflammatory disease that compromises quality of life. In spite of its importance in the initiation of inflammation, the role of interferon signaling in nasal airway epithelial cells is largely unknown. We analyzed the expression of interferon signaling genes using clinical lavage specimens and nasal airway epithelial cells collected from CRS patients and controls. Basal expression of <I>IFNAs</I>, <I>IKBKE</I>, <I>STAT1</I>, and some CXC chemokines was elevated in samples from CRS patients. In subsequent in vitro studies, we found IKKε to be the key molecule and augmented CXCL10 secretion. Based on our findings and review of the literature, we hypothesized that high levels of IKKε might induce intractable inflammation via CXCL10. We tested the hypothesis in an animal model and found not only that IKKε induced severe eosinophilic inflammation with CXCL10 over-production, but also that inhibition of IKKε resolved the inflammation.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> High basal expression of <I>IFNA</I> in CRS NAEC. </LI> <LI> IKKε was the key molecule of augmented secretion of IFNα and CXCL10. </LI> <LI> The inhibition of IKKε resolved the inflammation in animal model. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>
Autophagy in coxsackievirus-infected neurons.

<P>Autophagy is a process to engulf aberrant organelles or protein aggregates into double-membrane vesicles for lysosomal breakdown. Autophagy is a protective process against some intracellular bacteria and viruses; however, it is also used for replication by some viruses, such as poliovirus. We recently found that coxsackievirus B4 (CVB4) also induces the autophagy pathway and activates the calpain system for replication in neurons. Notably, the inhibition of autophagy with 3-methyladenine (3MA) reduced calpain activation and virus replication. Calpain inhibitors also reduced autophagosome formation and virus replication. This finding indicates that calpain and the autophagy pathway are closely connected with each other during the infection. Interestingly, we also found that 3MA and calpain inhibitors enhanced the caspase-3 specific cleavage of spectrin during CVB4 infection, suggesting that autophagy inhibition by these drugs triggered apoptosis. Thus, autophagy and apoptosis may balance each other in CVB4-infected neurons. Here, we show that inhibition of caspase with zVAD increased autophagosome formation, further proposing the cross-talk between autophagy and apoptosis in CVB4-infected neurons.</P>
