        After the vehicle has become a large formation with high-speed, loud noise from an express highway is increasing, and the number of large-scale apartment complexes, which are recently being constructed in the metropolitan area nearby the express highway and IC, is increasing gradually. Compared with a main road, the traffic volume and the speed of a vehicle between IC and the ramp way [turn-off] are smaller. If the ramp way is rightly connected with the downtown area, however, the traffic-noise that comes about in surrounding areas will be in conjunction with the traffic-noise from the main road of express highway and that of the ramp way. This research has selected a place that hasn't had a road or a commercial quarter nearby the main-road of IC and ramp way. Then we have studied the traffic-noise status under minimizing influence of its outer-noise, which occurs in IC. 1. The traffic volume change of a small and full-sized car with time has been kept on regularity in 2004 and 2005. As the traffic volume of a full-sized car has diminished remarkably, it has been maintaining through 6:00a.m.-10:00 a.m. As it has decreased since lO:OO a.m.. we have also observed the traffic proportion going up. 2. Monthly traffic volume of small cars was higher in May, August and October than other months. We have observed that the high traffic volume during these months is due to the following: May-The Damyang festival, August-a high-demand season, October-viewing scarlet maple leaves. Monthly traffic volume of full-sized cars was generally higher in August, but it has decreased during 2006. This was due to the many construction trucks that were working on the extension of the 88 Olympic expressway. Therefore, there was more traffic volume in 2006 compared to 2004 and 2005. 3. In this study, the noise figures have been less than 55 dB(A) in 18 spots. There were 14 spots from 55dB(A) to 58dB(A). 58-61dB(A) : 20, 61-64dB(A) : 17, 64-67dB(A) : 18. There were 8 spots we observed at the highest level from 67dB(A) to 70dB(A). Those were the nearby spots separating the main road and Damyang IC. 4. Traffic-noise at the boundary between IC and the main road of an expressway was higher than that of the same distance in other places. 5. We have observed that traffic-noise is low in places with mountains that serve the role of soundproofing walls. Thus, the fundamental sound hadn't affected it.

      • 월출산국립공원 수질특성에 관한 연구

        Because mountain streams have narrow widths and steep slopes compared to streams and lakes, hours of immobility are considerably short, and the quality of mountain streams has been greatly influenced by rainfall, land-use, components of the streambed and types of forests. During the summer when heavy rainfall occurs, eroded earth and sand flow into mountain streams and cause temporarily high turbidity. It is also the cause of eutrophication, which is frequently found in downstream. As evaluation standards for the quality of mountain streams were not established in Korea, this quality was evaluated by examining some items based on quality standards for drinkable water and research on the influences of pollution in mountain streams, which showed that these were seldom in downstream water systems. Mountain streams within Wolchulsan National Park flow into a reservoir and when characteristics of mountain streams from forests and rainfall that flow into mountain streams through forest ecosystems were studied, results of measuring its changes are as follows. Monthly changes of pH were low between April and August and higher starting October, and the EC was measured higher in the winter and the spring and tended to be low starting April. The EC on the 19th of May and the 23rd of October and the concentration of floating materials and COD_(Mn) were observed to be higher due to the influence of rainfall on the 19th of May and the 22nd of October, and it was judged that the washing out of dried deposits attached to the water pipe and the leaching of woods were influenced by rainfall. It is considered that real-time monitoring of water quality for a long time and water quality conditions during and after rainfall should be examined for ensuring basic data of water quality and evaluating characteristics and seasonableness of mountain streams, which may be greatly changed by artificial influence in the future.

        Histone Deacetylase Inhibition Attenuates Cardiac Hypertrophy and Fibrosis through Acetylation of Mineralocorticoid Receptor in Spontaneously Hypertensive Rats

        <P>Inhibition of histone deacetylases (HDACs) by valproic acid (VPA) attenuates inflammatory, hypertrophic, and fibrotic responses in the hearts of spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs); however, the molecular mechanism is still unclear. We hypothesized that HDAC inhibition (HDACi) attenuates cardiac hypertrophy and fibrosis through acetylation of mineralocorticoid receptor (MR) in SHRs. Seven-week-old SHRs and Wistar-Kyoto rats were treated with an HDAC class I inhibitor (0.71% w/v in drinking water; VPA) for 11 weeks. Sections of heart were visualized after trichrome stain as well as H&E stain. Histone modifications, such as acetylation (H3Ac [acetylated histone 3]) and fourth lysine trimethylation (H3K4me3) of histone 3, and recruitment of MR and RNA polymerase II (Pol II) into promoters of target genes were measured by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction after chromatin immunoprecipitation assay. MR acetylation was determined by Western blot with anti–acetyl-lysine antibody after immunoprecipitation with anti-MR antibody. Treatment with VPA attenuated cardiac hypertrophy and fibrosis. Although treatment with VPA increased H3Ac and H3K4me3 on promoter regions of MR target genes, expression of MR target genes as well as recruitment of MR and Pol II on promoters of target genes were decreased. Although HDACi did not affect MR expression, it increased MR acetylation. These results indicate that HDACi attenuates cardiac hypertrophy and fibrosis through acetylation of MR in spontaneously hypertensive rats.</P>

      • Forkhead box O3 plays a role in skeletal muscle atrophy through expression of E3 ubiquitin ligases MuRF-1 and atrogin-1 in Cushing’s syndrome

        <P>Cushing's syndrome is caused by overproduction of the adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), which stimulates the adrenal grand to make cortisol. Skeletal muscle wasting occurs in pathophysiological response to Cushing's syndrome. The forkhead box (FOX) protein family has been implicated as a key regulator of muscle loss under conditions such as diabetes and sepsis. However, the mechanistic role of the FOXO family in ACTH-induced muscle atrophy is not understood. We hypothesized that FOXO3a plays a role in muscle atrophy through expression of the E3 ubiquitin ligases, muscle RING finger protein-1 (MuRF-1), and atrogin-1 in Cushing's syndrome. For establishment of a Cushing's syndrome animal model, Sprague-Dawley rats were implanted with osmotic minipumps containing ACTH (40 ng.kg(-1).day(-1)). ACTH infusion significantly reduced muscle weight. In ACTH-infused rats, MuRF-1, atrogin-1, and FOXO3a were up-regulated and the FOXO3a promoter was targeted by the glucocorticoid receptor (GR). Transcriptional activity and expression of FOXO3a were significantly decreased by the GR antagonist RU486. Treatment with RU486 reduced MuRF-1 and atrogin-1 expression in accordance with reduced enrichment of FOXO3a and Pol II on the promoters. Knockdown of FOXO3a prevented dexamethasone-induced MuRF-1 and atrogin-1 expression. These results indicate that FOXO3a plays a role in muscle atrophy through expression of MuRF-1 and atrogin-1 in Cushing's syndrome.</P>

      • Characterization of antimicrobial resistance and class 1 integrons found in <i>Escherichia coli</i> isolates from humans and animals in Korea

        <P><I>Objectives</I>: Antimicrobial resistance and class 1 integrons found in <I>Escherichia coli</I> isolates from humans and animals in Korea were characterized.</P><P><I>Methods</I>: <I>E. coli</I> isolates were examined for susceptibility to antimicrobial agents. Integrase genes were amplified. Gene cassette regions for classes 1 and 2 integrons were amplified and sequenced. Conjugal transfer and Southern hybridization were performed to determine the genetic localization of class 1 integrons. The clonal relationship of <I>E. coli</I> isolates carrying an identical cassette array was analysed by PFGE.</P><P><I>Results</I>: Commensal <I>E. coli</I> isolates from animals were highly resistant to commonly used antimicrobial agents such as tetracycline, sulfamethoxazole, streptomycin, ampicillin and carbenicillin. Integrons were most prevalent in commensal <I>E. coli</I> isolates from poultry (44%), followed by clinical isolates from humans (33%), commensal isolates from swine (23%) and humans (13%). <I>dfrA17-aadA5</I>, <I>dfrA12-orfF-aadA2</I> and <I>aadA1</I> were found most frequently in <I>E. coli</I> isolates from humans, poultry and swine, respectively. Class 1 integrons were mostly located in conjugative plasmids. <I>E. coli</I> isolates carrying an identical cassette array were phylogenetically unrelated.</P><P><I>Conclusions</I>: The use of antibiotics is strongly associated with antimicrobial resistance. <I>E. coli</I> isolates from different sources may select a specific gene cassette by antibiotic selective pressure, which results in differences in class 1 integrons. The horizontal transfer of class 1 integrons through conjugative plasmids seems to be responsible for wide dissemination of a particular type of class 1 integron.</P>

        자기결정 향상에 중점을 둔 초등 특수학급 국어과 수업이 지적장애학생의 읽기성취도와 수업참여행동에 미치는 영향

        이 연구는 기본교육과정과 자기결정 요소를 연계하여 지도할 수 있도록 구성된 국어 수업이 지적장애학생의 읽기성취도와 수업참여행동에 미치는 영향을 살펴보았다. 연구는 충청북도 공립 S초등학교 특수학급에 재학 중인 지적장애학생 3명을 대상으로 하여 대상자 간 중다 간헐 기초선 설계로 진행하였다. 중재는 특수학급 국어 수업 시간에 총 23회기로 실시했으며, 연구 결과를 살펴보면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 연구에 참여한 지적장애학생 모두 중재를 실시한 이후에 기초선 구간보다 읽기 평가 점수가 향상되었으며, 특수학급 소그룹 국어 수업 상황에서도 일반화되어 향상된 점수를 보였다. 둘째, 수업 준비, 주의집중, 착석유지, 긍정적 기대감 등 학생들의 수업참여행동 발생률이 기초선 구간보다 중재와 일반화, 유지 구간에서 더 높게 나타났다. 이와 같은 결과를 바탕으로 기본교육과정 국어과와 자기결정 요소를 결합한 수업 프로그램을 제시하며, 교육과정 및 실생활과 연계한 자기결정의 조기교육을 강조하였다. This study examined the effects of Korean language class program focused on self-determination on reading achievement and academic engagement behaviors. The participants of this study were 3 students with intellectual disability who belonged to the resource room in the public elementary schools in Chungcheongbuk-do. The Korean language class program focused on self-determination consists of 23 sessions, and taught in korean language class of resource room. This study used multiple probe design across subjects. The results of this study were shown as below. First, as a result of conducting the Korean language class program focused on self-determination in the resource room, the reading assessment scores of 3 participants were improved during intervention and generalization, comparing with the baseline scores. Second, the academic engagement behaviors of 3 participants improved after intervention. Also, the students’ academic engagement behaviors were generalized into the situation of small group in the resource room. In conclusion, this study results suggest implications regarding the program that combines the basic curriculum(Korean language) and self-determination elements, as well as emphasize the importance of self-determination education at early age and the program that reflects students’ real life.

        경기시즌 중 남자대학축구선수 슬관절 동측균형비의 변화

        The purpose of this study was to identify the change of ipsilateral balance ratio (IR) in the knee joint during the competitive season, and to present the basal data for development of muscular strengthening program for injury prevention and athletic performance improvement. Participants were 32 male university soccer players. Muscle strength in both knee joint was repeatedly measured with isokinetic dynamometer at the angular velocity of 60°/sec before and after the competitive season. IR(Extensor/Flexor) and related variables were calculated. As a result, IR in both knee joint was higher value than normal range. Extensor in dominant side, extensor and flexor in non-dominant side were significantly decreased during the competitive season. No significant difference was shown in the change of IR during the competitive season between dominant and non-dominant side. The results of the analysis between the increasing group and decreasing group in IR during the competitive season showed that the main mechanism of the change of IR in the increasing group was the decrease of flexor and that in the decreasing group was the decrease of extensor. In conclusion, it is suggested that individualized muscular strengthening program for maintaining IR within normal range should be introduced.
