Due to growing demand for wireless broadband communication and congestion on bandwidth of RF spectrum, optical wireless has received considerable attention in the communication world. Optical wireless or free space optics is a good alternative solution to existing RF communication system. The quality of FSO transmission is characterized by BER. Performance degradation faced by the FSO system can be mitigated by using spatial diversity techniques. This work focuses on performance analysis of 4X4 multiple transmitter/receiver combination which is integrated with different types of amplifiers. By using the feasible system parameters for 4X4 multiple transceiver FSO system integrated with preamplification, maximum range of 425 km can be achieved for acceptable received power under clear weather condition.

Harneet Kaur,Kunzes Dolma,Navjot Kaur,Ankit Malhotra,Navinder Kumar,Pooja Dixit,Deepak Sharma,S. Mayilraj,Anirban Roy Choudhury 한국생물공학회 2015 Biotechnology and Bioprocess Engineering Vol.20 No.1
The present research work highlighted thepossibility of exploiting marine microbes for the biosynthesisof copper nanoparticles and further investigated thermodynamicchanges during the biomineralization of copper ina microbial system by isothermal titration calorimetry. Abacterial strain (M-7) isolated from Kanyakumari coast,India was found capable of synthesizing these nanoparticles. Based on phylogenetic relationship, the strain M-7 wasidentified as Kocuria flava. The nanoparticles producedwere characterized using UV-vis spectrophotometry, Transmissionelectron microscopy (TEM) and Dynamic lightscattering (DLS). Data revealed the formation of sphericaland quasi-spherical shaped nanoparticles with an averageparticle size ranging between 5 and 30 nm. Additionally, astudy on the effect of different media components indicatedthat media containing higher amount of casein enzymichydrolysate and yeast extract supported the formationof stable colloidal suspension of nanoparticles. Finally, isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) was carried out tounderstand the change in heat energy during the formationof nanoparticles in different media. Combinatorial observationsof all these studies may open up new strategies todevelop tailor made copper nanoparticles via green route.

The current study is the first report that revealed insecticidal effects of lemon (Citrus limon) peel aqueous extract (LFPAE) against common insect pest of rose, aphids (Macrosiphum roseiformis) and for its influence on useful nontarget predators viz., Coccinella septempunctata and Orius laevigatus on rose plants. Effects of LFPAE seemed promising concerning pest and predators of Rosa spp. The LC ESI Q-TOF MS/MS analysis of extract revealed the presence of (L-pipecolic acid, scopoletin, pulegone, γ-terpinene, carvone, menthone, myrcene, limonene, (−)-trans-isopiperitenol, geranial and linalool as active components that may be ascribed to observed effects. Also, some major terpenoids α-pinene, β-pinene, γ-terpinene, menthone, linalool, limonene which are known to be present in lemon were tested for their efficacy. LFPAE did not show any toxicity towards C. septempunctata. However, it was moderately toxic to O. laevigatus. Food choice assays and odor choice assay revealed that there was no significant difference obtained between the percentage of pests/predators that reached a particular choice (LFPAE treated, or untreated rose leaves). According to LC50 values of LFPAE for aphids, the highest toxicity and least value (6.68 mg/ml), was obtained at 72 h which was almost similar to the lowest concentration tested (×6 =6.25 mg/ml). Besides at 24 and 48 h LC50 values were somewhere around ×2 (100 mg/ml) and ×3 (50 mg/ml) concentrations. Among all the terpenoids tested at 24–72 h, γ-terpinene was most toxic with LC50 value ranging from 0.18 to 0.004 mg/ml followed by menthone (0.8–0.008), β-pinene (5.8–0.004), limonene (5.8–0.009), mixture (8.5–0.003), linalool (12.3–0.13) and α-pinene (17.8–0.02), respectively. Field data showed that LFPAE at ×1 (200 mg/ml), ×2 and ×3 concentration was effective until nine days after treatment (DAT) and lowest concentration ×4 did not show affectivity beyond seven days. However, terpenoids mixture at ×1 (10 mg/ml each) showed affectivity till 11DAT and lower two concentrations (×2 and ×3) caused significant mortality up to 7DAT.

Objective: To study the level of awareness and knowledge about cancers and associated risk factors among households in selected states of India. Methods: In the study 3070 households were interviewed from six states viz, West Bengal, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Mizoram. Results: Knowledge of cancers other than those related to tobacco was very low (prostate 8%, colon 11% ) among the communities, with a poor awareness of warning signs and symptoms. The knowledge varied from state to state. It is found that the major source of information related to cancers was television (38%) followed by friends and relatives (36%). Only about 15 % of respondents had knowledge about cancer awareness camps organized in their districts but they did not have knowledge about the organizers of the camp. Findings suggested a strong need for strengthening of DCCP. Conclusion: It is important to create awareness among community through educational programs on cancer prevention, preventable cancer risk factors, benefits of early diagnosis, and availability of screening facilities. Integration of District Cancer Control activities with NRHM could be the most cost-effective strategy to prevent cancers and rural population.
