In order to investigate the change of physicochemical properties of ginseng root starch during storage and heat treatment. the roots were stored for 15 days at 5℃, 15℃, 30℃ and 45℃, and heated for 15 hours at 60℃, 70℃, 80℃, 90℃, respectively. The starch content was decreased from about 40% to 23-26% and sucrose content was increased from 4% to 12-16% during storage for 15 days at 5-45℃. Maltose, which was not detected in fresh samples, was increased upto 8.5% during storage or heat treatment. Granular size of the starch was decreased and some of the granules were broken during storage. Amylose content in the starch was decreased from 33% to 20%, and blue value and alkali number of the starch were increased slightly, and solubility and swelling power of the starch were decreased during storage. The higher storage temperature and the longer storage time, the starch was more susceptible to gelatinize, and the viscosity of the starch was lowered with the susceptibility of gelatinization. The susceptibility of degradation of the starch by the amylase was increased and amylolytic activities in ginseng root were, also, increased during storage.

In this paper, we analyzed d. c. and microwave characteristics of GaAs-MESFET under laser illumination. We obtained the analytical expression of I-V characteristics of GaAs-MESFET for linear, knee and saturation regions by solving 2-dimensional Poisson's equation and compared calculated I-V curves with experimental data. The resulting I-V curves are in good agreement with experimental data. We also obtained the analytical expressions for the current gain cut-off frequency f?? and time constant for the linear and the knee region, respectively. It was predicted that the reduction of the current gain cut-off frequency and the increase time constant due to the photovoltaic effect under laser illumination.

Lysosomal enzyme activity of choroid, newrosensory retina, iris and ciliarybody, cornea and sclea of the rabbit eye was measured by acid phosphatase(ASPase)as enzyme maker. We reported lysosomal enzyme activity on retinal pigment epitherium in 1998. Distribution of ACPase in the tissues was carried out using Fukuzawa method and Kind-king method. Of the tissues of the rabbit eye the ACPase activity was highest in the choroid(28.6583±12.6920)by Kind-king method. The meurosensory retina(4.5433±2.2091), Iris & ciliary body(2.4138±0.8307), cornea(1.7223±0.6492)and sclea(0.9550±0.0646)also showed the specipic activity of enzyme.

<P>Homer proteins are scaffold molecules with a domain structure consisting of an N-terminal Ena/VASP homology 1 protein-binding domain and a C-terminal leucine zipper/coiled-coil domain. The Ena/VASP homology 1 domain recognizes proline-rich motifs and binds multiple Ca<SUP>2+</SUP>-signaling proteins, including G protein-coupled receptors, inositol 1,4,5-triphosphate receptors, ryanodine receptors, and transient receptor potential channels. However, their role in Ca<SUP>2+</SUP> signaling in nonexcitable cells is not well understood. In this study, we investigated the role of Homer2 on Ca<SUP>2+</SUP> signaling in parotid gland acinar cells using <I>Homer2</I>-deficient (<I>Homer2</I><SUP>−/−</SUP>) mice. Homer2 is localized at the apical pole in acinar cells. Deletion of <I>Homer2</I> did not affect inositol 1,4,5-triphosphate receptor localization or channel activity and did not affect the expression and activity of sarco/endoplasmic reticulum Ca<SUP>2+</SUP>-ATPase pumps. In contrast, <I>Homer2</I> deletion markedly increased expression of plasma membrane Ca<SUP>2+</SUP>-ATPase (PMCA) pumps, in particular PMCA4, at the apical pole. Accordingly, <I>Homer2</I> deficiency increased Ca<SUP>2+</SUP> extrusion by acinar cells. These findings were supported by co-immunoprecipitation of Homer2 and PMCA in wild-type parotid cells and transfected human embryonic kidney 293 (HEK293) cells. We identified a Homer-binding PP<I>XX</I>F-like motif in the N terminus of PMCA that is required for interaction with Homer2. Mutation of the PP<I>XX</I>F-like motif did not affect the interaction of PMCA with Homer1 but inhibited its interaction with Homer2 and increased Ca<SUP>2+</SUP> clearance by PMCA. These findings reveal an important regulation of PMCA by Homer2 that has a central role on PMCA-mediated Ca<SUP>2+</SUP> signaling in parotid acinar cells.</P>
A Study on the POE-based Energy Utilization Satisfaction Analysis for Passive House in Germany

Passive House represents energy-saving technologies. It aims to save energy and provide comfort to the dwellers. The design and construction began in Germany, where it is commonly observed. In South Korea, implementation of the Passive House concept is difficult because of high construction costs and technological problems. This study performed a POE analysis to analyze the extents of satisfaction and knowledge about Passive House among those who live in them in Germany. The results found high satisfaction with functional aspects, such as ventilation, windows, doors, and the thermal bridge. These research results will provide application criteria for Passive House construction in South Korea.

The quantity of the inorganic elements of more than 30 kinds of winter vegetables grown in the fields and mountains in the province of Kyungsangbukdo in Korea, was analyzed and compared with the previous determined records. (1) The average quantity of sodium is 59.4mg/100g, and is shown from 2.6 to 1.4 times higher than pre-stated records. It indicates more quantity of sodium in the field-vegetables than in the mountain-vegetables, that is due to using wastes of human-body for its manure. The quantity of potassium is an average of 222.4mg/100g, which proves less when compared with the previous detected records. (2) Calcium is contained 66.3mg/100g, magnesium 8.38mg/100g, which is shown less figure than the previous detected records. (3) Phosphorus is involved an average of 48.4mg/100g, Iron 3.6 mg/100g. Aluminium 5.8 mg/100g, Manganess 9.9 mg/100g, Copper 3.3 mg/100g, Boron 3.29 mg/100g.
