Maternal Genetic Variants of IL4/IL13 Pathway Genes on IgE With “Western or Eastern Environments/Lifestyles”

        Guicheng Zhang,Siew-Kim Khoo,Mika J Mäkelä,Pierre Candelaria,Catherine M Hayden,Leena von Hertzen,Tiina Laatikainen,Erkki Vartiainen,Jack Goldblatt,Tari Haahtela,Peter N LeSouëf1 대한천식알레르기학회 2014 Allergy, Asthma & Immunology Research Vol.6 No.4

Purpose: We investigated maternal genetic effects of four IL-4/IL-13 pathway genes as well as their interactions with the “Western or Easternlifestyles/environments” on IgE in Karelian children. Methods: This study included 609 children and their mothers. Total IgE levels in children andmothers were measured and 10 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in IL-4, IL-4Ra, IL-13, and STAT6 were genotyped in mothers and their children. Results: The maternal G allele of IL-13 130 (rs20541) was significantly (P=0.001) associated with decreased IgE in children in the Karelianpopulation (Pooling Finnish and Russian children), as well as in Finnish (P=0.030) and Russian children (P=0.018). The IgE levels were significantly(P=0.001) higher in Russian children whose mothers were homozygous for the G allele of the IL-4Ra 50 (rs1805010) SNP than that in Russian childrenof mothers who were AG heterozygotes or AA homozygotes. After accounting for children’s genotypes, we observed interactive effects on children’sIgE for maternal IL-13 130 genotypes (P=0.014) and maternal IL-4Ra 50 genotypes (P=0.0003) with “Western or Eastern” lifestyles/environments. With the adjustment for multiple comparisons using a false discovery rate (FDR) of 0.05, the interactive effect of the maternal IL-4Ra 50 SNP wassignificant. Conclusion: Maternal genetic variants in IL-4/IL-13 pathway genes, such as IL-13 130 and IL-4Ra50, influenced IgE levels in schoolchildren that were independent of the children’s genetic effects. These effects differ in “Western or Eastern” environments.

      • A novel flexible micro-ratchet/ZnO nano-rods surface with rapid recovery icephobic performance

        Wang, Manxiang,Yu, Wenbo,Zhang, Yupei,Woo, Jae-Young,Chen, Yu,Wang, Bo,Yun, Yanbin,Liu, Guicheng,Lee, Joong Kee,Wang, Lei Elsevier 2018 Journal of industrial and engineering chemistry Vol.62 No.-

Abstract

In this communication, we present a significant method to fabricate a robust icephobic surface on a flexible polymer substrate. The flexible functional surface is obtained by integrating both soft-lithography and crystal growth methods. Modified by the materials with low surface free energy, the composite surface exhibits a robust superhydrophobicity at not only room temperature but also low temperature. After freezing test, the surface can recover to its original function quickly, which has achieved the level for industrial application, and also performed significant role for enhancing the icephobic theories.

Highlights

ZnO nano-rods are uniformly planted on the flexible PDMS surface.

Fabrication of the surface integrates both crystal growth and physical vapor deposition methods.

The superhydrophobic surface successfully realizes fast-recovery from freezing state.

In freezing process, the nanorods can hardly cracked due to the flexible basement.

Graphical abstract

The liquid droplet can recover to sphere state (Cassie's state) after melting from low temperature (for example, 20°C). ▪

[DISPLAY OMISSION]

Removal of NO by carbon-based catalytic reduction bed loaded with Mn induced by dielectric barrier discharge at low temperature

        Fan Gao,Xingpeng Jin,Guicheng Wang,Luying Sun,Yujie Tan,Renxi Zhang,Weixuan Zhao,Jianyuan Hou,Ruina Zhang 대한환경공학회 2023 Environmental Engineering Research Vol.28 No.1

The current paper reports on a newly developed DBD-Mn/FCRB hybrid system to explore the removal of NOx by reduction without adding reducing gas at low temperature (below 80℃). This technology was established with a fixed carbon-based reduction catalytic reduction bed loaded with manganese (Mn/FCRB) induced by dielectric barrier discharge (DBD). The NO conversion and N₂ selectivity in the new hybrid system reached 90.9 and 79.9%, respectively under 8% oxygen content, 1,200 J/L specific input energy (SIE), which were all higher than in the single DBD and DBD-FCRB systems, respectively. The Mn/FCRB was further characterized before and after activation by SEM, XRD and XPS. The possible reaction pathways of denitration were proposed through three processes based on the experimental results: direct denitration of active carbon atoms excited by plasma, reduction by adsorptive C(N) and C(O) complexes on the FCRB surface, and the reaction of nitrogen oxides with by-product CO. In addition, the results also showed that the new in-situ reduction denitration system had strong oxygen shock resistance and water resistance.
