      • Computational Study of Linear and Nonlinear Optical Properties of Single Molecules and Clusters of Organic Electro-Optic Chromophores

Garrett, Kerry University of Washington 2015 해외박사(DDOD)

        RANK : 247343

Organic electro-optic (OEO) materials integrated into silicon-organic hybrid (SOH) devices afford significant improvements in size, weight, power, and bandwidth (SWAP) performance of integrated electronic/photonic systems critical for current and next generation telecommunication, computer, sensor, transportation, and defense technologies. Improvement in molecular first hyperpolarizability, and in turn electro-optic activity, is crucial to further improvement in the performance of SOH devices. The timely preparation of new chromophores with improved molecular first hyperpolarizability requires theoretical guidance; however, common density functional theory (DFT) methods often perform poorly for optical properties in systems with substantial intramolecular charge transfer character. The first part of this dissertation describes the careful evaluation of popular long-range correction (LC) and range-separated hybrid (RSH) density functional theory (DFT) for definition of structure/function relationships crucial for the optimization of molecular first hyperpolarizability, beta. In particular, a benchmark set of well-characterized OEO chromophores is used to compare calculated results with the corresponding experimentally measured linear and nonlinear optical properties; respectively, the wavelength of the peak one-photon absorption energy, lambdamax, and beta. A goal of this work is to systematically determine the amount of exact exchange in LC/RSH-DFT methods required for accurately computing these properties for a variety OEO chromophores. High-level electron correlation (post-Hartree-Fock) methods are also investigated and compared with DFT. Included are results for the computation of beta using second-order Moller-Plesset perturbation theory (MP2) and the double-hybrid method, B2PLYP. The second part of this work transitions from single-molecule studies to computing bulk electronic and nonlinear optical properties of molecular crystals and isotropic ensembles of a high-beta chromophore, YLD124. Of particular interest are phenomena such as aggregation and the effect of intermolecular interactions on EO activity.

      • Baptismal Covenant and Antiracist Identity: A Phenomenological Study of Christian Antiracist Formation in a United Methodist Church

Weiler, John Matthew Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary ProQuest 2020 해외박사(DDOD)

        RANK : 247343

The purpose of this study was to explore the role of confession, repentance, and Baptismal Identity within the Antiracist Identity of four, White Christians to further the work of Antiracist transformation and organizing in the local church. The primary methodology for this work was exploratory utilizing phenomenological, semi-structured, in-depth interviewing with a sample of four, White Christians at Eastern United Methodist Church. The thesis was that Baptismal Identity, and the Christian practices of confession and repentance in the work of Antiracism liberates White Christians to joyfully make space for all people to experience the liberating love of God.

      • MoO(S2)2L Based Molecular Electrocatalysts for Hydrogen Production

Garrett, Benjamin Roy The Ohio State University ProQuest Dissertations & 2017 해외박사(DDOD)

        RANK : 247343

Electrochemical and photoelectrochemical water splitting are promising ways to store energy from intermittent sources (i.e. wind and solar), in the form of hydrogen. Water splitting can be divided into two half reactions: the oxygen evolution re.

      • The impact of prekindergarten participation on first-grade student achievement

Garrett, Lisa Williams University of Georgia 2000 해외박사(DDOD)

        RANK : 247343

This study investigated whether participation in a public school prekindergarten program resulted in a significant increase in the level of achievement and an increase in promotion rates of students at the first grade level as compared to students who did not participate in the program. It examined the differences among student achievement and retention rates for the types of preschool programs in an urban district in central Georgia. Finally, the study investigated whether students who were eligible for the free and reduced lunch program and participated in the public school prekindergarten program had a significantly different level of achievement and a significant increase in promotion rates compared to the other students. The independent variable was the type of preschool experience. The dependent variables were the achievement levels measured by NCE scores on the sub-tests of the Iowa Test of Basic Skills and promotion to second grade. One-way ANOVAs were conducted on the test scores. Chi-square analyses were conducted using the total group and the free and reduced school lunch sample on the promotion rate of the students. The results for the total group found that there were statistically significant differences at the .05 level of the ITBS NCE scores in the areas of Survey Battery Total, Language Total, Language Advanced Skills, Math Total, and Math Advanced Skills. Chi square analysis found that there was a statistically significant difference at the .05 level in the promotion rate. The ANOVA found that there were statistically significant differences at the .05 level in the free and reduced lunch population in the areas of Survey Battery Total, Reading Total, Language Total, Mathematics Total, and Mathematics Advanced Skills. The Chi-Square analysis found that there was no statistically significant difference in the promotion rate for the free and reduced lunch subgroup. It was recommended that further research be conducted to analyze the curriculum programs used by each of the preschools represented in the study; and to study the effect of preschool participation longitudinally to see if the effects of preschool participation fade.

      • Occupational stress and job satisfaction among African American mental health professionals

Garrett, Willie Bernard University of Minnesota 2002 해외박사(DDOD)

        RANK : 247343

This study investigated the occupational stress and job satisfaction of African American mental health professionals in Minnesota. The purpose was to identify stressors, coping mechanisms, and levels of job satisfaction. Thirty-eight African American mental health professionals responded to the African American Mental Health Professional Occupational Stress Survey and the short form of the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSQ). Over-all results of this study showed moderately high levels of job stress as measured by the African American Mental Health Professional Occupational Stress Survey. Job satisfaction, as measured by the MSQ, was within the high average range and comparable to the level of a group of general employees. African American mental health professionals cope with stress by resorting to a combination of both work and non-work supports and altruistic motives. Respondents were seasoned employees who averaged 20 years in the field, and their intent to remain on the job was high. Simple product-moment correlation was significant (p < .01) between stress levels and job satisfaction and between intent to remain and job satisfaction. There was no significant correlation between stress levels and intent to remain. Recommendations for future studies include the role of altruistic motives in job satisfaction and across group comparisons.
