Inter‑diffusion Based Analytical Model for Growth Kinetics of IMC Layers at Roll Bonded Cu/Al Interface During Annealing Process

        Fu‑an Hua,Hong‑wu Song,Tao Sun,Jian‑ping Li 대한금속·재료학회 2020 METALS AND MATERIALS International Vol.26 No.3

A model based on inter-diffusion theory was established to predict growth kinetics of the intermetallic compounds (IMCs)formed in roll bonded Al/Cu sheets during annealing process. The model can give good prediction of both IMC layers growthkinetics and element concentration distribution at the interface of roll bonded Cu/Al sheets with different thickness underdifferent annealing conditions with certain roll reduction range. It is revealed that the calculated results of the proposedmodel are depended on the inter-diffusion coefficient of each components, which could be related to the interface bondingstate, i.e., bonding methods or rolling reductions for roll bonding. And there was big difference in inter-diffusion coefficientof Al and Cu matrix under different bonding state, while the inter-diffusion coefficient of IMCs changed slightly.

Investigation of the Phenomenon of Propagated Sensation along the Channels in the Upper Limb Following Administration of Acupuncture and Mock Laser

        Shohreh Razavy,Marcus Gadau,Shi Ping Zhang,Fu Chun Wang,Sergio Bangrazi,Christine Berle,Mahrita Harahap,Tie Li,Wei Hong Li,Christopher Zaslawski 사단법인약침학회 2017 Journal of Acupuncture & Meridian Studies Vol.10 No.5

Background: Similar to De Qi psychophysical responses, propagated sensation along the channels (PSC) is considered an important phenomenon in traditional Chinese acupuncture. In acupuncture clinical trials, different acupuncture manipulation techniques are used to enhance the propagation of sensation along the channels to facilitate an optimum therapeutic result. Aim: To examine and compare the PSC reported by participants in a clinical trial following the administration of acupuncture and inactive mock laser. Methods: The study was embedded in a two-arm parallel design multicenter, randomized clinical trial, the Tennis Elbow AcupuncturedInternational StudydChina, Hong Kong, Australia, Italy (TEA IS CHAI). Needle sensations were measured using a validated instrument, the Massachusetts General Hospital Acupuncture Sensation Spreading Scale. Ninety-six participants with lateral elbow pain were randomly allocated into two groups in a 1:1 ratio; the acupuncture treatment group (n Z 47) and the mock laser control group (n Z 49). Participants in both groups received the intervention at two acupoints, LI10 and LI11, consisting of 2 minutes of either standardized needle manipulation or mock laser at each acupoint with a rest period between each intervention period. Data were collected immediately following the interventions at the first and the ninth session within the clinical trial. Results: Although participants in both groups perceived PSC radiating to similar sites along the upper limb, the frequency of the reported radiation sites among the two intervention groups for both radiation up the limb (p < 0.05) and radiation down the limb (p < 0.001) were statistically significantly different. Among the radiating sensation sites recorded within the two study groups, the sensations were reported as radiating a greater distance down the forearm to the wrist compared to up the arm. Evaluation of PSC across the four study sites revealed a statistically significant difference in frequency of the reported radiation down the limb sites in each study group and radiation up the limb sites only in control group only (p < 0.001). Conclusion: The findings of the study demonstrated that the PSC phenomenon is not just associated with needling but can be perceived when using a mock laser. Cloning and Characterization of a Na+/H+ Antiporter Gene of the Moderately Halophilic Bacterium Halobacillus aidingensis AD-6T

Ya Jie Zou,Li Fu Yang,Lei Wang,Su Sheng Yang 한국미생물학회 2008 The journal of microbiology Vol.46 No.4

A gene encoding a Na+/H+ antiporter was obtained from the genome of Halobacillus aidingensis AD-6T, which was sequenced and designated as nhaH. The deduced amino acid sequence of the gene was 91% identical to the NhaH of H. dabanensis, and shared 54% identity with the NhaG of Bacillus subtilis. The cloned gene enable the Escherichia coli KNabc cell, which lack all of the major Na+/H+ antiporters, to grow in medium containing 0.2 M NaCl or 10 mM LiCl. The nhaH gene was predicted to encode a 43.5 kDa protein (403 amino acid residues) with 11 putative transmembrane regions. Everted membrane vesicles prepared from E. coli KNabc cells carrying NhaH exhibited Na+/H+ as well as Li+/H+ antiporter activity, which was pH-dependent with the highest activity at pH 8.0, and no K+ /H+ antiporter activity was detected. The deletion of hydrophilic C-terminal amino acid residues showed that the short C-terminal tail was vital for Na+/H+ antiporter activity.

High-performance solid-state flexible supercapacitor based on reduced graphene oxide/hierarchical core-shell Ag nanowire@NiAl layered double hydroxide film electrode

        Li, Lei,Hui, Kwan San,Hui, Kwun Nam,Zhang, Tengfei,Fu, Jianjian,Cho, Young-Rae Elsevier 2018 CHEMICAL ENGINEERING JOURNAL -LAUSANNE- Vol.348 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>All-solid-state flexible supercapacitor (AFSC) is a promising energy storage device due to its high flexibility, security, and environmental friendliness. However, high electrical resistance and low specific capacitance of electrodes limit its application for potential portable electronic devices. In this study, we design a novel hybrid film electrode composed of reduced graphene oxide (rGO)/silver nanowire (Ag NW)@nickel aluminum layered double hydroxide (NiAl LDH; herein, GAL) possessing high electrochemical performance by using hydrothermal and vacuum filtration techniques. The Ag NW@NiAl LDH (AL) composites with hierarchical core-shell structure are utilized to increase electroactive surface area and improve electrical conductivity, while the rGO nanosheets serve as a prominent carbon material with outstanding electrical conductivity and mechanical flexibility. The freestanding GAL electrode shows high specific capacitance of 1148 F g−1 at 1 A g−1 compared with rGO/NiAl LDH (GL) of 765.2 F g−1 at 1 A g−1. Furthermore, the bind-free symmetric AFSC device is successfully prepared using GAL hybrid film as electrodes and PVA-KOH as solid-state gel electrolyte. The GAL//GAL AFSC device delivers a superior specific capacitance of 127.2 F g−1 at 1 A g−1, a high energy density of 35.75 mWh cm−3 at a power density of 1.01 W cm−3, and great cycling ability of 83.2% over 10,000 cycles at 5 A g−1. • Colorectal Cancer Concealment Predicts a Poor Survival: A Retrospective Study

        Li, Xiao-Pan,Xie, Zhen-Yu,Fu, Yi-Fei,Yang, Chen,Hao, Li-Peng,Yang, Li-Ming,Zhang, Mei-Yu,Li, Xiao-Li,Feng, Li-Li,Yan, Bei,Sun, Qiao Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.7

Objectives: Understanding the situation of cancer awareness which doctors give to patients might lead to prognostic prediction in cases of of colorectal cancer (CRC). Methods: Subsets of 10,779 CRC patients were used to screen the risk factors from the Cancer Registry in Pudong New Area in cancer awareness, age, TNM stage, and gender. Survival of the patients was calculated by the Kaplan-Meier method and assessed by Cox regression analysis. The views of cancer awareness in doctors and patients were surveyed by telephone or household. Results: After a median observation time of 1,616 days (ranging from 0 to 4,083 days) of 10,779 available patients, 2,596 of the 4,561 patients with cancer awareness survived, whereas 2,258 of the 5,469 patients without cancer awareness and 406 of the 749 patients without information on cancer awareness died of the disease. All-cause and cancer-specific survival were poorer for the patients without cancer awareness than those with (P < 0.001 for each, log-rank test). Cox multivariate regression analysis showed that cancer concealment cases had significantly lower cancer-specific survival (hazard ratio (HR) = 1.299; 95 % confidence interval (CI): 1.200-1.407)and all-cause survival (HR = 1.324; 95 % CI: 1.227-1.428). Furthermore, attitudes of cancer awareness between doctors and patients were significantly different (P < 0.001). Conclusion: Cancer concealment, not only late-stage tumor and age, is associated with a poor survival of CRC patients.

      • Characterization and Resistance Mechanisms of A 5-fluorouracil-resistant Hepatocellular Carcinoma Cell Line

Gu, Wei,Fang, Fan-Fu,Li, Bai,Cheng, Bin-Bin,Ling, Chang-Quan Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.9

Purpose: The chemoresistance of human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) to cytotoxic drugs, especially intrinsic or acquired multidrug resistance (MDR), still remains a major challenge in the management of HCC. In the present study, possible mechanisms involved in MDR of HCC were identified using a 5-fluorouracil (5-FU)-resistant human HCC cell line. Methods: BEL-7402/5-FU cells were established through continuous culturing parental BEL-7402 cells, imitating the pattern of chemotherapy clinically. Growth curves and chemosensitivity to cytotoxic drugs were determined by MTT assay. Doubling times, colony formation and adherence rates were calculated after cell counting. Morphological alteration, karyotype morphology, and untrastructure were assessed under optical and electron microscopes. The distribution in the cell cycle and drug efflux pump activity were measured by flow cytometry. Furthermore, expression of potential genes involved in MDR of BEL-7402/5-FU cells were detected by immunocytochemistry. Results: Compared to its parental cells, BEL-7402/5-FU cells had a prolonged doubling time, a lower mitotic index, colony efficiency and adhesive ability, and a decreased drug efflux pump activity. The resistant cells tended to grow in clusters and apparent changes of ultrastructures occurred. BEL-7402/5-FU cells presented with an increased proportion in S and G2/M phases with a concomitant decrease in G0/G1 phase. The MDR phenotype of BEL-7402/5-FU might be partly attributed to increased drug efflux pump activity via multidrug resistance protein 1 (MRP1), overexpression of thymidylate synthase (TS), resistance to apoptosis by augmentation of the Bcl-xl/Bax ratio, and intracellular adhesion medicated by E-cadherin (E-cad). P-glycoprotein (P-gp) might play a limited role in the MDR of BEL-7402/5-FU. Conclusion: Increased activity or expression of MRP1, Bcl-xl, TS, and E-cad appear to be involved in the MDR mechanism of BEL-7402/5-FU.

        Yang, Hong Yu,Fu, Yan,Jang, Moon-Sun,Li, Yi,Yin, Wen Ping,Ahn, Tae Kyu,Lee, Jung Hee,Chae, Heeyeop,Lee, Doo Sung Elsevier 2017 Colloids and surfaces. B, Biointerfaces Vol.155 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>High photoluminescence (PL) quantum yield (QY), photostability CdSe@ZnS/ZnS core/multishell quantum dots (CM-QDs) were first applied for bioimaging. The solubility, stability and biocompatible of the fluorescence imaging probes were constructed by self-assembly of CM-QDs and pH-responsive methoxy poly(ethylene glycol)-poly(β-amino ester/amidoamine)-dodecylamine (mPEG-PAEA-DDA) multiblock copolymers. The resulting CM-QDs-loaded mPEG-PAEA-DDA micelles (CM-QDs-PEG-PAEA-DDA) exhibited lower cell cytotoxicity and higher fluorescence intensity than the core/shell CdSe@ZnS QDs-encapsulated mPEG-PAEA-DDA micelles (CS-QDs-PEG-PAEA-DDA). Moreover, the in vivo fluorescence imaging ability confirmed that the CM-QDs-PEG-PAEA-DDA can be employed as a pH-triggerable targeting imaging probe for detection of a rat bearing cerebral ischemia disease. Therefore, we believed that the CM-QDs-PEG-PAEA-DDA may be the next generation of fluorescence imaging probes for targeted diagnosis acidic pathological areas, using pH as a stimulus.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> CdSe@ZnS/ZnS QDs are synthesized and first applied for bioimaging. </LI> <LI> mPEG-PAEA-DDA copolymer showed pH-responsive property and the hydrolysis stability. </LI> <LI> CM-QDs-PEG-PAEA-DDA exhibited lower toxicity and higher fluorescent intensity. </LI> <LI> CM-QDs-PEG-PAEA-DDA has ability to target image for acidic brain ischemic area. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

Controlled synthesis of Co2C nanochains using cobalt laurate as precursor: Structure, growth mechanism and magnetic properties

        Zhang, Yajing,Zhu, Yuan,Wang, Kangjun,Li, Da,Wang, Dongping,Ding, Fu,Meng, Dan,Wang, Xiaolei,Choi, Chuljin,Zhang, Zhidong Elsevier 2018 Journal of magnetism and magnetic materials Vol.456 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Cobalt carbides (Co2C and Co3C) nanocomposites exhibit interesting hard magnetic property, controlled synthesis of individual phase facilitates to clarify the magnetism of each, but it is difficult to obtain the single phase. We present a new approach to address this issue via a polyol refluxing process, using cobalt laurate as the precursor. The single phase Co2C magnetic nanochains self-assembled by nanoparticles are synthesized. The precursor is the key factor for controlling the growth kinetics of the Co2C nanochains. Cobalt, instead of cobalt carbides, is produced if cobalt chloride, acetate and acetylacetonate replace cobalt laurate as the precursor, respectively. The evolution of the growth process has been studied. In the formation of Co2C, first fcc-Co produces, then it transforms into Co2C by carbon diffusion process, and the produced carbon first exists in disordered state and then a small amount of them transforms into graphite. Saturation magnetization (<I>Ms</I>) of Co2C nanochains obtained at 300 °C for 20, 60, and 180 min are 27.1, 18.9, and 10.9 emu g−1, respectively. The decrease of <I>Ms</I> caused by increasing carbon content, and the carbon content are much larger than the stoichiometric ratio value of Co2C (9.2 wt%). Overexpressing <i>IbCBF3</i> increases low temperature and drought stress tolerance in transgenic sweetpotato

Jin, Rong,Kim, Beg Hab,Ji, Chang Yoon,Kim, Ho Soo,Li, Hong Min,Ma, Dai Fu,Kwak, Sang-Soo Elsevier Science B.V., Amsterdam. 2017 Plant Physiology and Biochemistry Vol. No.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Dehydration-responsive element-binding/C-repeat-binding factor (DREB/CBF) proteins regulate the transcription of genes involved in cold acclimation in several species. However, little is known about the physiological functions of CBF proteins in the low temperature-sensitive crop sweetpotato. We previously reported that the <I>DREB1/CBF-like</I> sweetpotato gene <I>SwDREB1/IbCBF3</I> is involved in responses to diverse abiotic stresses. In this study, we confirmed that IbCBF3 is localized to the nucleus and binds to the C-repeat/dehydration-responsive elements (CRT/DRE) in the promoters of cold-regulated (<I>COR</I>) genes. We generated transgenic sweetpotato plants overexpressing <I>IbCBF3</I> under the control of the CaMV 35S promoter (referred to as SC plants) and evaluated their responses to various abiotic stresses. <I>IbCBF3</I> expression was dramatically induced by cold and drought but much less strongly induced by high salinity and ABA. We further characterized two SC lines (SC3 and SC6) with high levels of <I>IbCBF3</I> transcript. The SC plants displayed enhanced tolerance to cold, drought, and oxidative stress on the whole-plant level. Under cold stress treatment (4 °C for 48 h), severe wilting and chilling injury were observed in the leaves of wild-type (WT) plants, whereas SC plants were not affected by cold stress. In addition, the <I>COR</I> genes were significantly upregulated in SC plants compared with the WT. The SC plants also showed significantly higher tolerance to drought stress than the WT, which was associated with higher photosynthesis efficiency and lower hydrogen peroxide levels. These results indicate that IbCBF3 is a functional transcription factor involved in the responses to various abiotic stresses in sweetpotato.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> IbCBF3 binds to CRT/DRE in the promoters of <I>COR</I> genes. </LI> <LI> Overexpression of <I>IbCBF3</I> increases cold and drought stress tolerance in sweetpotato. </LI> <LI> <I>IbCOR</I> expression is higher in <I>IbCBF3</I>-overexpressing sweetpotato than in the WT. </LI> </UL> </P>
