      • Colorectal Cancer Concealment Predicts a Poor Survival: A Retrospective Study

        Li, Xiao-Pan,Xie, Zhen-Yu,Fu, Yi-Fei,Yang, Chen,Hao, Li-Peng,Yang, Li-Ming,Zhang, Mei-Yu,Li, Xiao-Li,Feng, Li-Li,Yan, Bei,Sun, Qiao Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.7

Objectives: Understanding the situation of cancer awareness which doctors give to patients might lead to prognostic prediction in cases of of colorectal cancer (CRC). Methods: Subsets of 10,779 CRC patients were used to screen the risk factors from the Cancer Registry in Pudong New Area in cancer awareness, age, TNM stage, and gender. Survival of the patients was calculated by the Kaplan-Meier method and assessed by Cox regression analysis. The views of cancer awareness in doctors and patients were surveyed by telephone or household. Results: After a median observation time of 1,616 days (ranging from 0 to 4,083 days) of 10,779 available patients, 2,596 of the 4,561 patients with cancer awareness survived, whereas 2,258 of the 5,469 patients without cancer awareness and 406 of the 749 patients without information on cancer awareness died of the disease. All-cause and cancer-specific survival were poorer for the patients without cancer awareness than those with (P < 0.001 for each, log-rank test). Cox multivariate regression analysis showed that cancer concealment cases had significantly lower cancer-specific survival (hazard ratio (HR) = 1.299; 95 % confidence interval (CI): 1.200-1.407)and all-cause survival (HR = 1.324; 95 % CI: 1.227-1.428). Furthermore, attitudes of cancer awareness between doctors and patients were significantly different (P < 0.001). Conclusion: Cancer concealment, not only late-stage tumor and age, is associated with a poor survival of CRC patients.

A novel inverse opal zirconia pigment with controllable color saturation

        Li-li Wang,Xin-xin Liu,Xiao-peng Li,Xiu-feng Wang,Li-na Feng,Xu-ri Hou 한양대학교 세라믹연구소 2021 Journal of Ceramic Processing Research Vol.22 No.2

The inverse opal zirconia pigments were prepared by template method using polystyrene microspheres with the size of 340 ± 10nm as raw material and the in situ carbon was formed to achieve controllable and adjustable color saturation by sintering atvarious temperatures in nitrogen atmosphere with various nitrogen flow rates. The effects of nitrogen atmosphere, nitrogenflow rate and sintering temperature on the morphology, phase and color saturation of the inverse opal zirconia wereinvestigated. The results showed that when the inverse opal zirconia was sintered at 450 oC to 600 oC in nitrogen atmosphere, the green color saturation could be adjusted by changing the nitrogen flow rate from 0.2 L/min to 0.8 L/min. When thenitrogen rate was 0.8L/min, the green color saturation of the inverse opal zirconia could be adjusted by changing the sinteringtemperature from 450 oC to 600 oC. It indicated that the more the amount of in-situ carbon was generated, the more stray lightwas absorbed and the higher green color saturation of the inverse opal zirconia could be obtained. Further increasing thesintering temperature to 700 oC would destroy the inverse opal morphology of zirconia and affect the carbonization of theorganic component.

      • Dynamic Allocation of Random Access Opportunity for Machine-Type Communication in LTE-Advanced

        Peng Li,Yun-jian Jia,Ming-jun Feng,Fei Chen,Pei-hua He,Guo-jun Li 보안공학연구지원센터 2015 International Journal of Smart Home Vol.9 No.2

With the rapid growth of machine-type communications (MTC) devices, the radio access network (RAN) will be overloaded when a large number of MTC devices try to access the radio networks in a short time. In this paper, a combination of a dynamic resource allocation and a random access check mechanism is proposed to solve the overload problems for MTC in LTE-Advanced. An analytical model is presented with the derivation of three metrics, the collision probability, the success probability, and the idle probability to evaluate the method. Simulation and analysis results show the superior performance of the method we proposed to solve the RAN overload problem.

Homocysteine-targeting compounds as a new treatment strategy for diabetic wounds via inhibition of the histone methyltransferase SET7/9

        Li Guodong,Li Dan,Wu Chun,Li Shengnan,Chen Feng,Li Peng,Ko Chung-Nga,Wang Wanhe,Lee Simon Ming-Yuen,Lin Ligen,Ma Dik-Lung,Leung Chung-Hang 생화학분자생물학회 2022 Experimental and molecular medicine Vol.54 No.-

In hypoxia and hyperglycemia, SET7/9 plays an important role in controlling HIF-1α methylation and regulating the transcription of HIF-1α target genes, which are responsible for angiogenesis and wound healing. Here, we report the Ir(III) complex Set7_1a bearing acetonitrile (ACN) ligands as a SET7/9 methyltransferase inhibitor and HIF-1α stabilizer. Interestingly, Set7_1a could engage SET7/9 and strongly inhibit SET7/9 activity, especially after preincubation with homocysteine (Hcy), which is elevated in diabetes. We hypothesize that Set7_1a exchanges ACN subunits for Hcy to disrupt the interaction between SET7/9 and SAM/SAH, which are structurally related to Hcy. Inhibition of SET7/9 methyltransferase activity by Set7_1a led to reduced HIF-1α methylation at the lysine 32 residue, causing increased HIF-1α level and recruitment of HIF-1α target genes that promote angiogenesis, such as VEGF, GLUT1, and EPO, in hypoxia and hyperglycemia. Significantly, Set7_1a improved wound healing in a type 2 diabetic mouse model by activating HIF-1α signaling and downstream proangiogenic factors. To our knowledge, this is the first Hcy-targeting iridium compound shown to be a SET7/9 antagonist that can accelerate diabetic wound healing. More importantly, this study opens a therapeutic avenue for the treatment of diabetic wounds by the inhibition of SET7/9 lysine methyltransferase activity.

User Clustering Scheme for Downlink of NOMA System

( Li Li ),( Zhenghui Feng ),( Yanzhi Tang ),( Zhangjie Peng ),( Lisen Wang ),( Weilu Shao ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2020 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.14 No.3

An improved clustering scheme based on user group is proposed. Every two users are grouped among N-users in the allowed system according to their link gain from large to small. Each user group is numbered sequentially. Two user clusters are obtained according to the principle of maximizing link gain difference for the users in the first and last user groups. The remaining user groups are added to the two existing user clusters according to the parity of the group number. The clustering should be clustered again among the users in either user cluster if the throughput summation of a user cluster in NOMA is less than that of these users in orthogonal multiple access. The simulation results show that the proposed clustering scheme can increase the system throughput by about 8% compared with the hybrid clustering scheme when the number of users requiring service is 12.

Zeolite-catalyzed Isomerization of 1-Hexene to trans-2-Hexene: An ONIOM Study

        Li, Yan-Feng,Zhu, Ji-Qin,Liu, Hui,He, Peng,Wang, Peng,Tian, Hui-Ping Korean Chemical Society 2011 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.32 No.6

Details of the double-bond isomerization of 1-hexene over H-ZSM-5 were clarified using density functional theory. It is found that the reaction proceeds by a mechanism which involves the Br${\o}$nsted acid part of the zeolite solely. According to this mechanism, 1-hexene is first physically adsorbed on the acidic site, and then, the acidic proton transfers to one carbon atom of the double bond, while the other carbon atom of the double bond bonds with the Br${\o}$nsted host oxygen, yielding a stable alkoxy intermediate. Thereafter, the Br${\o}$nsted host oxygen abstracts a hydrogen atom from the $C_6H_{13}$ fragment and the C-O bond is broken, restoring the acidic site and yielding trans-2-hexene. The calculated activation barrier is 12.65 kcal/mol, which is in good agreement with the experimental value. These results well explain the energetic aspects during the course of double-bond isomerization and extend the understanding of the nature of the zeolite active sites.

      • No Association Between the USP7 Gene Polymorphisms and Colorectal Cancer in the Chinese Han Population

        Li, Xin,Wang, Yang,Li, Xing-Wang,Liu, Bao-Cheng,Zhao, Qing-Zhu,Li, Wei-Dong,Chen, Shi-Qing,Huang, Xiao-Ye,Yang, Feng-Ping,Wang, Quan,Wang, Jin-Fen,Xiao, Yan-Zeng,Xu, Yi-Feng,Feng, Guo-Yin,Peng, Zhi-Ha Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.5

Colorectal cancer (CRC), now the third most common cancer across the world, is known to aggregate in families. USP7 is a very important protein with an important role in regulating the p53 pathway, which is critical for genomic stability and tumor suppression. We here genotyped eight SNPs within the USP7 gene and conducted a case-control study in 312 CRC patients and 270 healthy subjects in the Chinese Han population. No significant associations were found for any single SNP and CRC risk. Our data eliminate USP7 as a potential candidate gene towards for CRC in the Han Chinese population.

      • Transcriptome analysis of grain-filling caryopses reveals the potential formation mechanism of the rice sugary mutant

        Feng-peng Li,Won-Hee Ra,Min-Young Yoon,Soon-Wook Kwon,Tae-Sung Kim,Il-Pyung Ahn,Yong-Jin Park 한국육종학회 2014 한국육종학회 심포지엄 Vol.2014 No.07

A sugary mutant with low total starch and high sugar content was compared with its wild type Sindongjin for grain-filling caryopses. In the present study, developing seeds of Sindongjin and sugary mutant from the 11th day after flowering (DAF) were subjected to RNA sequencing (RNA-Seq). A total of 30,385 and 32,243 genes were identified in Sindongjin and sugary mutant. Transcriptomic changes analysis showed that 7,713 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) (log2 Fold change ≥1, false discovery rate (FDR) ≤ 0.001) were identified based on our RNA-Seq data, with 7,239 genes up-regulated and 474 down-regulated in the sugary mutant. A large number of DEGs were found related to metabolic, biosynthesis of secondary metabolites, plant-pathogen interaction, plant hormone signal transduction and starch/sugar metabolism. Detailed pathway dissection and quantitative real time PCR (qRT-PCR) demonstrated that most genes involved in sucrose to starch synthesis are up-regulated, whereas the expression of the ADP-glucose pyrophosphorylase small subunit (OsAGPS2b) catalyzing the first committed step of starch biosynthesis was specifically inhibited during the grain-filling stage in sugary mutant. Further analysis suggested that the OsAGPS2b is a considerable candidate gene responsible for phenotype of sugary mutant.

      • Clinicopathologic Characteristics and Prognoses for Multicentric Occurrence and Intrahepatic Metastasis in Synchronous Multinodular Hepatocellular Carcinoma Patients

        Li, Shi-Lai,Su, Ming,Peng, Tao,Xiao, Kai-Yin,Shang, Li-Ming,Xu, Bang-Hao,Su, Zhi-Xiong,Ye, Xin-Ping,Peng, Ning,Qin, Quan-Lin,Chen, De-Feng,Chen, Jie,Li, Le-Qun Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.1

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common cancers worldwide, and the outcomes for patients are still poor. It is important to determine the original type of synchronous multinodular HCC for preoperative assessment and the choice of treatment therapy as well as for the prediction of prognosis after treatment. Aims: To analyze clinicopathologic characteristics and prognoses in patients with multicentric occurrence (MO) and intrahepatic metastasis (IM) of synchronous multinodular hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Methods: The study group comprised 42 multinodular HCC patients with a total of 112 nodules. The control group comprised 20 HCC patients with 16 single nodular HCC cases and 4 HCC cases with a portal vein tumor emboli. The mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) D-loop region was sequenced, and the patients of the study group were categorized as MO or IM based on the sequence variations. Univariate and multivariate analyses were used to determine the important clinicopathologic characteristics in the two groups. Results: In the study group, 20 cases were categorized as MO, and 22 as IM, whereas all 20 cases in the control group were characterized as IM. Several factors significantly differed between the IM and MO patients, including hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg), cumulative tumor size, tumor nodule location, cirrhosis, portal vein and/or microvascular tumor embolus and the histological grade of the primary nodule. Multivariate analysis further demonstrated that cirrhosis and portal vein and/or microvascular tumor thrombus were independent factors differentiating between IM and MO patients. The tumor-free survival time of the MO subjects was significantly longer than that of the IM subjects ($25.7{\pm}4.8$ months vs. $8.9{\pm}3.1$ months, p=0.017). Similarly, the overall survival time of the MO subjects was longer ($31.6{\pm}5.3$ months vs. $15.4{\pm}3.4$ months, p=0.024). The multivariate analysis further demonstrated that the original type (p=0.035) and Child-Pugh grade (p<0.001) were independent predictors of tumor-free survival time. Cirrhosis (p=0.011), original type (p=0.034) and Child-Pugh grade (p<0.001) were independent predictors of overall survival time. Conclusions: HBeAg, cumulative tumor size, tumor nodule location, cirrhosis, portal vein and/or microvascular tumor embolus and histological grade of the primary nodule are important factors for differentiating IM and MO. MO HCC patients might have a favorable outcome compared with IM patients.
