      • Water Coordination, Proton Mobility, and Lewis Acidity in HY Nanozeolites: A High-Temperature 1H and 27Al NMR Study

        Katsiotis, Marios S.,Fardis, Michael,Al Wahedi, Yasser,Stephen, Samuel,Tzitzios, Vasilios,Boukos, Nikolaos,Kim, Hae Jin,Alhassan, Saeed M.,Papavassiliou, Georgios American Chemical Society 2015 The Journal of Physical Chemistry Part C Vol.119 No.6

<P>A nanosized HY zeolite was synthesized and studied by means of 1H and 27Al NMR during thermal dehydration in the temperature range 20–600 °C. The nanozeolite is comprised of a mixture of well-crystallized ultrathin platelets and octahedral nanocrystals, dressed with pentacoordinated extraframework Al(V). 1H NMR spin–lattice (<I>T</I>1) and spin–spin (<I>T</I>2) relaxation measurements in combination with 27Al 3Q-MAS NMR reveal two different interaction paths between water molecules and the nanozeolite solid matrix: (i) water molecules strongly interacting with Al(V) cations, indicated by the high <I>T</I>1/<I>T</I>2 ratio, and (ii) water molecules with amply smaller <I>T</I>1/<I>T</I>2 ratio, interacting moderately with Al(IV) and Al(VI) cations. Relevant measurements on bulk HY rich in extraframework Al(VI) show the presence of the second relaxation channel only, indicating that the enhanced water adsorption observed for the nanozeolite originates partly from its extended surface and partly from the Al(V) decoration. Al(IV) sites in the nanozeolite appear to be highly resilient during heating, even while the framework starts to collapse and Al(VI) transforms to Al(V). Finally, 1H NMR shows that water protons interact particularly strongly with the Al sites in the nanozeolite at temperatures as high as 500 °C, unveiling the important role of the Al(V) decoration on this nanocatalyst.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/jpccck/2015/jpccck.2015.119.issue-6/jp513030w/production/images/medium/jp-2014-13030w_0013.gif'></P>

YouTube as a source of information about pulpotomy and pulp capping: a cross sectional reliability analysis

        Kodonas Konstantinos,Fardi Anastasia 대한치과보존학회 2021 Restorative Dentistry & Endodontics Vol.46 No.3

Objectives The purpose of this study was to critically evaluate the quality, reliability and educational content of the information of vital pulp treatment videos available on YouTube. Materials and Methods The keywords “pulpotomy” and “pulp capping” were searched on YouTube on 5th July 2020, until 60 English language videos of each search term with a duration shorter than 15 minutes were acquired. Video characteristics were recorded and Video Power Index (VPI) was calculated. Reliability and educational quality of videos were evaluated using the Modified DISCERN score, the Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA) benchmark criteria and Global Quality Scores (GQS). Videos were categorized by uploading source. Results Regarding pulpotomy, 31.7% of the videos were uploaded by specialists and 68.3% were directed by non-specialists. In the case of pulp capping, the corresponding percentages were 45% and 55%, respectively. Videos uploaded by specialists had significantly higher modified DISCERN, JAMA and GQS scores compared to those uploaded by non-specialists. Endodontists tended to have the highest reliability and VPI scores. Conclusions YouTube videos on vital pulp treatment contain low educational quality or incomplete information. Low popularity of dental pulp capping and pulpotomy videos may be attributed to the specialized nature of these procedures. As YouTube represents an important source for patient information about different health topics, reliable informative videos should be uploaded by specialized dental professionals. An investigation of methylation pattern changes in the IKZF1 promoter in patients with childhood B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia

        Mina Rahmani,Masoumeh Fardi,Majid Farshdousti Hagh,Abbas Ali Hosseinpour Feizi,Mehdi Talebi,Saeed Solali 대한혈액학회 2019 Blood Research Vol.54 No.2

BackgroundIkaros family zinc finger 1 (IKZF1)is a transcription factor with an important role in control-ling hematopoietic proliferation and function, particularly lymphoid cell differentiation. It was previously shown that various mechanisms and expression patterns of Ikaros are linked to a variety of cancers. We hypothesized that aberrant methylation (hypomethylat-ion) of the IKZF1 promoter region might be one of the causes of B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL). In B-ALL patients, an increased expression of this gene is a potential cause of B-cell differentiation arrest and proliferation induction. Therefore, as more than 90% of patients with ALL are <15 years old, we investigated the methylation pattern of the IKZF1 promoter in childhood B-ALL.MethodsTwenty-five newly diagnosed B-ALL cases were included (all younger than 15 yr). In addi-tion, we selected 25 healthy age- and sex-matched children as the control group. We col-lected the blood samples in EDTA-containing tubes and isolated lymphocytes from whole blood using Ficoll 1.077 Lymphosep. Next, we extracted genomic DNA with the phe-nol/chloroform method. Two microgram of DNA per sample was treated with sodium bisulfite using the EpiTect Bisulfite Kit, followed by an assessment of DNA methylation by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analysis of the bisulfite-modified genomic DNA.ResultsOur data highlighted a hypomethylated status of the IKZF1 promoter in the ALL cases (96% of the cases were unmethylated). In contrast, the control group samples were parti-ally methylated (68%).ConclusionThis study demonstrated a hypomethylated pattern of the IKZF1 promoter region in child-hood B-ALL, which might underlie the aberrant Ikaros expression patterns that were pre-viously linked to this malignancy.

Development of GATE Monte Carlo Code for Simulation and Dosimetry of New I-125 Seeds in Eye Plaque Brachytherapy

        Payvand Taherparvar,Zeinab Fardi 대한핵의학회 2021 핵의학 분자영상 Vol.55 No.2

Purpose Dose distributions are calculated by Monte Carlo (MC) simulations for two low-energy models 125I brachytherapy source—IrSeed-125 and IsoAid Advantage (model IAI-125A)—loaded in the 14-mm standardized plaque of the COMS during treatment of choroid melanoma. Methods In this study, at first, the radial dose function in water around 125I brachytherapy sources was calculated based on the recommendations of the Task Group No. 43 American Association of Physicists inMedicine (TG-43U1 APPM) using by GATE code. Then, brachytherapy dose distribution of a new model of the human eye was investigated for a 14-mm COMS eye plaque loaded with these sources with GATE Monte Carlo simulation. Results Results showthat there are good agreements between simulation results of these sources and reportingmeasurements and simulations. Dosimetry results in the designed eye phantom for two types of iodine seeds show that the ratios of average dose of tumor to sclera, vitreous, and retina for IrSeed (IsoAid) source are 3.7 (3.7), 6.2 (6.1), and 6.3 (6.3), respectively, which represents the dose saving to healthy tissues. The maximum percentage differences between DVH curve of IsoAid and IrSeed seeds was about 8%. Conclusions Our simulation results show that although new model of the 125I brachytherapy source having a slightly larger dimension than IAI-125A, it can be used for eye melanoma treatment because the COMS eye plaque loaded with IrSeed-125 could produce similar results to the IsoAid seeds, which is applicable for clinical plaque brachytherapy for uveal melanoma.

Ghojazadeh, Morteza,Azar, Zahra Fardi,Saleh, Parviz,Naghavi-Behzad, Mohammad,Azar, Nastaran Ghodratnezhad Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.12

Introduction: Increasing prevalence of human papilloma virus (HPV) infection and its association with cervical cancer as a leading cause of death make it necessary to evaluate and improve the public knowledge, especially of university students, about this cause of disease. Methods: A cross-sectional study of knowledge and attitude of a total 669 students from Tabriz University of Medical Sciences was therefore performed with a modified validated questionnaire, arranged into 5 parts and containing 55 questions, in July 2011. Questions were directed to study socio-demographic characteristics of the participant, knowledge about HPV disease, transmission route, relationship with cervical cancer, predisposing factors, and participants attitude toward people with HPV infection. Results: All of the participants were Moslem with a mean age $25.6{\pm}5.33$ years of age. All of the participants had heard of HPV, and acquired their knowledge through university courses (90.6%); the majority of them knew that HPV is a sexually transmitted disease and a potential cause for genital warts but general knowledge about details was not high. Mean knowledge score of residents and post graduate midwifery and nursing students was high as compared to other groups (P<0.001). Statements that indicated the presence of fear to communicate with people suffering HPV and people's avoidance to rely on babysitting of these patients were observed. Educational level (${\beta}$=0.21, P<0.001), age (${\beta}$=0.18, P=0.002,) and smoking (${\beta}$=-0.11, P=0.006) were predicted to effect knowledge. Conclusions: Moderate level of knowledge about HPV among medical university students makes it necessary to set effective national public health efforts on HPV education and prevention considering he excess of young population in Iran vulnerable to cervical cancer.

        Katakidis Anastasios,Kodonas Konstantinos,Fardi Anastasia,Gogos Christos 대한치과보존학회 2023 Restorative Dentistry & Endodontics Vol.48 No.4

Objectives: This scientometric and bibliometric analysis explored scientific publications related to hydraulic calcium silicate-based (HCSB) sealers used in endodontology, aiming to describe basic bibliometric indicators and analyze current research trends. Materials and Methods: A comprehensive search was conducted in Web of Science and Scopus using specific HCSB sealer and general endodontic-related terms. Basic research parameters were collected, including publication year, authorship, countries, institutions, journals, level of evidence, study design and topic of interest, title terms, author keywords, citation counts, and density. Results: In total, 498 articles published in 136 journals were retrieved for the period 2008– 2023. Brazil was the leading country, and the universities of Bologna in Italy and Sao Paolo in Brazil were represented equally as leading institutions. The most frequently occurring keywords were “calcium silicate,” “root canal sealer MTA-Fillapex,” and “biocompatibility,” while title terms such as “calcium,” “sealers,” “root,” “canal,” “silicate based,” and “endodontic” occurred most often. According to the thematic map analysis, “solubility” appeared as a basic theme of concentrated research interest, and “single-cone technique” was identified as an emerging, inadequately developed theme. The co-occurrence analysis revealed 4 major clusters centered on sealers’ biological and physicochemical properties, obturation techniques, retreatability, and adhesion. Conclusions: This analysis presents bibliographic features and outlines changing trends in HCSB sealer research. The research output is dominated by basic science articles scrutinizing the biological and specific physicochemical properties of commonly used HCSB sealers. Future research needs to be guided by studies with a high level of evidence that utilize innovative, sophisticated technologies.

Structural and transport properties of polydimethylsiloxane based polyurethane/silica particles mixed matrix membranes for gas separation

        Mohammad Ali Semsarzadeh,Eshagh Vakili,Behnam Ghalei,Milad Fardi,Mojtaba Esmaeeli 한국화학공학회 2014 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.31 No.5

Mixed matrix membranes of synthesized polyurethane (PU) based on toluene diisocyanate (TDI), polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS) and polytetramethylene glycol (PTMG) with polyvinyl alcohol based polar silica particles wereprepared by solution casting technique. The homogeneity and thermal properties of the prepared PDMS-PU/silica membraneswere characterized using scanning electron microscope (SEM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) andthermal gravimetric analysis (TGA). The SEM micrographs confirmed the distribution of silica particles in the polymermatrix without agglomerations. Gas permeation properties of membranes with different silica contents were studiedfor pure CO2, CH4, O2, He and N2 gases. The obtained results indicated the permeability of the condensable and polarCO2 gas was enhanced whereas permeability of other gases decreased upon increasing the silica content of the mixedmatrix membranes. The permeability of CO2 and its selectivity over N2 was increased from 68.4 Barrer and 22 in purePDMS-PU to 96.7 Barrer and 64.4 in the mixed matrix membranes containing 10 wt% of the silica particles.
