      • A Long-Term Comparative Study on Macrolepidoptera Diversity in Three Types of Vegetations from Worak-san [Mt.] in 2010

        We have surveyed monthly diversity and seasonal prevalence of Macrolepidoptera in Wol-ak-san [Mt.] for the period of four months from May to August in 2010. Although it is not a part of KLTER/ME and KLPS study in Wol-ak-san conducted in recent few years, this year's data may be comparable with the previous ones as the collection sites and dates are very similar. The three representative vegetations are Quercus mongolica-, Quercus variabilis- and Pinus densiflora-formations, abbreviated as QM, QV and PD, respectively, and we collected exclusively larger moths with bucket-type of light traps for quantified survey. In 2010, as a result, QV showed higher species diversity and specimen number than QM or PD although the differences between QV and QM are very subtle. The result is very similar to the result in 2009. The only difference in 2010 over 2009 is that the number of species, not specimens, has been increased 1.5 times, and this may be caused by the inclusion of July records, which has been usually deleted due to heavy rainy season causing poor collection records. The number of species in Noctuidae was the highest in 2010, about twice more than that in 2009, but the dominant species in 2010 were either Pyralidae (Nacoleia commixta or Bradina geminalis) or Geometridae (Arichanna melanaria). We are still experiencing decline of specimen numbers: 567 specimens collected in 2010 while 651 in 2009 and 874 in 2008, which was already a huge reduction compared to over 2500 specimens in 2007.

        With the help of KLTER/ME and KLPS in Woraksan, we have surveyed monthly diversity and seasonal prevalence of Macrolepidoptera in Wol-ak-san [Mt.] for the period of five months from May to September since 2005. Since 2007, to reduce variation, we chose two monitoring points, instead of one, for each of the three representative vegetations: Quercus mongolica-, Quercus variabilis- and Pinus densiflora-formations, abbreviated as QM, QV and PD, respectively, and collected exclusively larger moths with bucket-type of light traps for quantified survey. In 2009, as a result, QV showed higher species diversity and specimen number than QM or PD although the differences between QV and QM are subtle. The number of individuals collected may not be a good indicator, e.g., Idaea biselata collected in QM in June was over 200 in 2007, which is more than twice the number of specimens in all other sites per month, while the number in 2008 was dropped to only 10 specimens. In 2009, they became a dominant species again, showing biennial dominancy trend. It also seems that we are experiencing major decline of specimen numbers: 651 specimens collected in 2009 while 874 specimens collected in 2008, which was already a big reduction compared to over 2500 specimens in 2007

        Quantitative Assessment of Global and Regional Air Trappings Using Non-Rigid Registration and Regional Specific Volume Change of Inspiratory/Expiratory CT Scans: Studies on Healthy Volunteers and Asthmatics

        <P><B>Objective</B></P><P>The purpose of this study was to compare air trapping in healthy volunteers with asthmatics using pulmonary function test and quantitative data, such as specific volume change from paired inspiratory CT and registered expiratory CT.</P><P><B>Materials and Methods</B></P><P>Sixteen healthy volunteers and 9 asthmatics underwent paired inspiratory/expiratory CT. ΔSV, which represents the ratio of air fraction released after exhalation, was measured with paired inspiratory and anatomically registered expiratory CT scans. Air trapping indexes, ΔSV<SUB>0.4</SUB> and ΔSV<SUB>0.5</SUB>, were defined as volume fraction of lung below 0.4 and 0.5 ΔSV, respectively. To assess the gravity effect of air-trapping, ΔSV values of anterior and posterior lung at three different levels were measured and ΔSV ratio of anterior lung to posterior lung was calculated. Color-coded ΔSV map of the whole lung was generated and visually assessed. Mean ΔSV, ΔSV<SUB>0.4</SUB>, and ΔSV<SUB>0.5</SUB> were compared between healthy volunteers and asthmatics. In asthmatics, correlation between air trapping indexes and clinical parameters were assessed.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>Mean ΔSV, ΔSV<SUB>0.4</SUB>, and ΔSV<SUB>0.5</SUB> in asthmatics were significantly higher than those in healthy volunteer group (all <I>p</I> < 0.05). ΔSV values in posterior lung in asthmatics were significantly higher than those in healthy volunteer group (<I>p</I> = 0.049). In asthmatics, air trapping indexes, such as ΔSV<SUB>0.5</SUB> and ΔSV<SUB>0.4</SUB>, showed negative strong correlation with FEF<SUB>25-75</SUB>, FEV<SUB>1</SUB>, and FEV<SUB>1</SUB>/FVC. ΔSV map of asthmatics showed abnormal geographic pattern in 5 patients (55.6%) and disappearance of anterior-posterior gradient in 3 patients (33.3%).</P><P><B>Conclusion</B></P><P>Quantitative assessment of ΔSV (the ratio of air fraction released after exhalation) shows the difference in extent of air trapping between health volunteers and asthmatics.</P>

      • 공공 신고 어플리케이션 사용의 문제점과 디자인 대안 탐색에 대한 연구

        공공 서비스 분야에서의 시민 참여를 확대하기 위하여, 다양한 공공 문제를 제보할 수 있는 신고어플리케이션이 운영되고 있다. 그러나 어플리케이션을 이용한 민원 신고를 적극 홍보하고 있음에도 불구하고 사용자 만족도는 상당히 떨어지고 있으며, 실질적이고 지속적인 사용으로 이어지지 않고 있다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 문제의식에 따라 공공신고 어플리케이션의 문제점을 탐색하고 이를 해결할 수 있는 디자인 대안을 제안하고자 하였다. 연구방법 1 에서는 사용자 리뷰를 수집하여 신고어플리케이션의 민원 처리 과정에 따른 문제점을 분석하였으며, 연구방법 2 에서는 사용자에게 어플리케이션을 사용하여 직접 신고를 해보게 함으로써 실제 신고 상황에서의 문제점을 분석하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 신고 어플리케이션의 실질적인 사용을 유도하기 위해서는 어플리케이션의 기능 및 사용성에 대한 문제점 뿐만 아니라, 일상 생활 속에서 자연스러운 신고 행동을 유도하고 신고에 대한 보상과 격려를 강화할 수 있는 근본적인 해결책이 필요하다는 점을 시사한다.

      • Finding the best color of ambient lighting for an attentive task

        The purpose of this research is to investigate users" emotional reaction to the lighting color when they conduct their attentive tasks. We presented nine different ambient lighting colors in the following experiment. Those colors were black (All ambient lightings were switched off.), red, orange, yellow, green, cyan, blue, purple and white, and they were shown while the participants were paying attention to the given task, " Sudoku". Under the highly attentive circumstance, we measured the effect of lighting colors on the participants particularly in three different aspects: visceral level, behavioral level and reflective level using Electroencephalograph (EEG) and Electrocardiograph (ECG) for visceral level measurement, Sudoku test for behavioral level measurement, and survey questionnaire for reflective level measurement respectively (N=20). Based on the empirical results, neither in visceral level nor behavioral level, we did not find any statistically significant influence of color of ambient lighting on participants (p> 0.05, Oneway ANOVA with Repeated Measurement). However, on reflective level, participants distinguished the quality of color of the ambient lightings (p< 0.05, Oneway MANOVA with Repeated Measurement) by choosing white ambient lighting as the best for studying and black as the best for immersion. In general, positively correlated relationship was found among the five criteria: preference, acquaintance, naturalness, suitability for studying, and suitability for immersion.

      • The affective effect of ambient LED lighting for relaxation and working contexts

        Despite technical advances and economical advantages of LED lighting, there has been little research on how affective it is to the humans. In this study, we address the affective effects of ambient LED lighting, focusing on relaxation and working contexts. We conducted two empirical studies with 19 subjects and investigated whether ambient lighting colors facilitated by LED affect comfort or cognitive performance. In experiment I, we recorded Electrocaridigraph and asked the subjects to rate the emotional characteristics of the lighting. The results showed that nuanced lighting colors were more appropriate than saturated colors in terms of making the subjects feel relaxed. However, based on the ECG data, we found that blue lighting was an exception in that the subjects felt more relaxed under saturated blue lighting. In experiment II, we analyzed the ratio of Sensory Motor Rhythm and Mid-Beta waves collected while the subjects worked on two types of cognitive tasks, arithmetic and geometry questionnaires. We have not yet drawn any conclusions as to whether certain colors of ambient lighting helped the subjects focus on the tasks more efficiently. Instead, we observed that the subjects’ right brain showed twofold higher activation when they were solving geometry questionnaires.

        고령자의 정서적 안정을 위한 친밀성 형성 기반의 AI 돌봄 로봇 디자인 연구

        Background : This burgeoning trend, as the nation transitions towards a super-aged society, has lead to an escalating interest in the quality of life of the elderlies. The necessity for emotional care, potentially delivered through advanced Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies like robotics, is increasingly recognized for the elderly. However, there is still a lack of researches that focuses on the aesthetics, which is the key factor that influences face-to-face interaction. This study analyzed which design elements of the AI care robot and feedback elements of the interaction were more involved in building intimacy with the elderly. Methods : In order to lay the groundwork for a basic theory of the research subjects and their emotions, a literature review was conducted to examine elderly people, intimacy, AI care robots, and senses. We selected Hyodol and Dasom robots as samples, and conducted task-based observations and in-depth interviews on design elements and feedback elements, and analyzed them using behavioral frequency analysis and AEIOU methodology. Results : The following factors contributed to triggering intimacy. First, anthropomorphic onscreen character shapes, white and green colors, and fabric were the most intimacy-enhancing materials. Second, among the feedback elements of interaction, smiling and moving facial expressions, childs voice, multi-sensory feedback, dynamic movement, and various movements were the most involved in creating intimacy. Third, Hyodol’s-dols emotional and cognitive types were more involved in intimacy, while Dasoms play and cognitive types were more involved in intimacy. Fourth, Hyodol-dol was found to be a negative factor because of its simple doll-like appearance, while Dasom was found to be a negative factor because of its simple and mechanical movements. Conclusions : As the market for AI care for seniors is changing with the development of AI technology, this study aimed to propose a design direction suitable for seniors using AI care robots. In the future, we hope that this study will be used as a basis for the development and research of AI design for seniors in various fields such as AI care robots and facilities.
