        LA CONSTRUCCION DEL PERSONAJE FEMENINO EN LA TEJEDORA DE CORONAS DE GERMAN ESPINOSA

        「왕관을 짜는 여인」은 콜롬비아의 시인이면서 소설가인 헤르만 에스피노사의 작품으로, 아메리카의 풀리지 않는 문제를 제기한다. 즉 식민지 시대 안에서 그 당시 사회에 관해 깊이 숙고할 수 없는 한계를 말하고 있다. 이 작품은 이러한 문제를 제기하려는 시도이다. 이와 같이 여성인물은 식민시대를 평가해 가며, 변화의 가능성을 보여주면서 생생하게 이 시대에 합류한다. 이 소설의 목적은 강요된 침묵에 목소리를 부여하는 것이다. 여성성은 그 자신의 역사를 직조할 수 있는 가능성을 열어 간다. 콜럼비아 비평가들에 의해 가르시아 마르께스의 『백년동안의 고독』 이후 20세기의 두번째로 중요한 작품이라고 평가되는 이 소설은 이런 요소들에 의해 독자의 흥미를 끈다.

        Molecular detection and phylogenetic analyses of Arsenophonus endosymbiont in wild specimens of phlebotomine sand flies from Colombia

        Endosymbionts have gained prominence as a potential tool for biological control strategies in reducing vectorborne diseases. This study aimed to evaluate the presence of Arsenophonus, Spiroplasma, and Rickettsia endo symbionts in wild specimens of phlebotomine sand flies, as well as in culicids collected in different regions of Colombia. Analyses were conducted through conventional PCR, Sanger sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene, and phylogenetic analyses. Individuals from among 946 phlebotomine sand flies and 143 mosquitoes were selected for taxonomic identification confirmed through the analysis of the cytochrome oxidase subunit I gene sequences. Results showed the presence of Arsenophonus bacteria in samples of Lutzomyia longipalpis, Psychodopygus pan amensis, and Pintomyia evansi. Arsenophonus sequences associated with Lu. longipalpis and Ps. panamensis are phylogenetically located near to sequences of louse flies, with K2P genetic distances of 0.006. In contrast, se quences obtained from Pi. evansi are phylogenetically located near Arsenophonus nasoniae (K2P 0.001–0.014). Other sequences of endosymbionts similar to Arsenophonus with high K2P genetic distances (0.056–0.097), when compared to different reference strains of this endosymbiont, were also found in other samples of Lu. longipalpis and Ae. aegypti. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first successful attempt to detect and elucidate the phylogenetic relationship of Arsenophonus in phlebotomine sand flies, yet its role within these insect vectors remains to be fully determined; therefore, the importance of entomological surveys that help better understand its behavior and potential use as a control agent is required to enable the proactive reduction of sand fly populations.

        Mapping of folic acid in the children brainstem

        Using highly specific antisera, the neuroanatomical distribution of folic acid (FA) and retinoic acid (RA) has been studied for the first time in the children brainstem. Neither immunoreactive structures containing RA nor immunoreactive fibers containing FA were found. FA-immunoreactive perikarya (fusiform, small/medium in size, one short dendrite) were only found in the pons in three regions: central gray, reticular formation, and locus coeruleus. The number of cell bodies decreased with age. In the first case studied (2 years), a moderate density of cell bodies was observed in the central gray and reticular formation, whereas a low density was found in the locus coeruleus. In the second case (6 years), a low density of these perikarya was observed in the central gray, reticular formation, and locus coeruleus. In the third case (7 years), a low density of FA-immunoreactive cell bodies was found in the central gray and reticular formation, whereas in the locus coeruleus no immunoreactive cell bodies were observed. The distribution of FA in the central nervous system of humans and monkeys is different and, in addition, in these species the vitamin was located in different parts of the nerve cells. The restricted distribution of FA suggests that the vitamin is involved in specific physiological mechanisms.

        Variations in the origin of the anterior spinal artery in a Colombian population sample

        Based on most neuroanatomical descriptions, the anterior spinal artery (ASA) originates from two small vessels of the vertebral arteries, which are anastomosed just before forming the basilar artery. This study aimed to determine and quantify the possible variants of the origin of the ASA and its trajectory in samples of human brain stems. Male brain stems with the superior portion of the spinal cord until myelomera C3 of 23 adult human, and no evident morphological alterations were selected. The brain stems were collected for three years and fixed in a 10% formalin solution at the Anatomy Laboratory of the Universidad de Caldas (Colombia). Five samples (21.7%) had variations in the origin and trajectory of the anterior spinal artery. The variations in the origin of the ASA could generate morphofunctional advantages instead of leading to complications. That is the case when there are two anterior spinal arteries since it would increase tissue perfusion, thus protecting part of the spinal cord from ischemic pathologies. It is essential to consider the variations that may exist in the supply of the anterior region of the spinal cord for clinical and surgical assessments due to variations in its supplied territory.

        The terminal ventricle of Saguinus leucopus (Primate)

        The terminal ventricle is a dilation of the ventricular system located within the spinal cord, which is enveloped in ependymal cells that are involved in the dynamic of the cerebrospinal liquid. In the present study, four Saguinus leucopus specimens were dissected, two males and two females, whose spinal cords were extracted and histologically processed via hematoxylin and eosin stains of cuts at the conus medullaris. The S. leucopus’ terminal ventricle was observed at the conus medullaris, and had an average diameter of 241.38 μm. Thus, the presence of the terminal ventricle in the S. leucopus at the level of the conus medullaris was established.

        Quantification of the use of eponyms in two Latin American congresses of anatomy

        Eponyms have been part of medical language for many centuries, have put down powerful cultural roots, and continue to be used mainly in the language of medical specialties. The problem with eponymy is that it does not provide any relevant information about what is being studied, which hinders learning and generates communication problems. Ten oral presentations were randomly evaluated, as were all poster presentations made at the II Peruvian Congress on Morphological Sciences and the XV Ibero-Latin American Symposium on Anatomical, Histological, and Embryological Terminology, held in March of 2018 in Lima, Peru. This was done in order to quantify eponym use. Of the 10 oral presentations randomly selected, the eponym use was identified in six (60%). Of the 33 poster presentations made, six (18.18%) used eponyms. In conclusion, eponyms continue to be used indiscriminately in the language of the morphological sciences.

        Effect of ultrasonic agitation on push-out bond strength and adaptation of root-end filling materials

        Objectives This study evaluated the effect of ultrasonic agitation of mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA), calcium silicate-based cement (CSC), and Sealer 26 (S26) on adaptation at the cement/dentin interface and push-out bond strength. Materials and Methods Sixty maxillary canines were divided into 6 groups (n = 10): MTA, S26, and CSC, with or without ultrasonic activation (US). After obturation, the apical portions of the teeth were sectioned, and retrograde cavities were prepared and filled with cement by hand condensation. In the US groups, the cement was activated for 60 seconds: 30 seconds in the mesio-distal direction and 30 seconds in the buccal-lingual direction, using a mini Irrisonic insert coupled with the ultrasound transducer. After the materials set, 1.5-mm thick sections were obtained from the apexes. The presence of gaps and the bond between cement and dentin were analyzed using low-vacuum scanning electron microscopy. Push-out bond strength was measured using a universal testing machine. Results Ultrasonic agitation increased the interfacial adaptation of the cements. The S26 US group showed a higher adaptation value than MTA (p < 0.05). US improved the push-out bond strength for all the cements (p < 0.05). Conclusions The US of retrograde filling cements enhanced the bond to the dentin wall of the root-end filling materials tested.

        Interthalamic adhesion in humans: a gray commissure?

        Interthalamic adhesion is an inconstant part of the human diencephalic neuroanatomy, which some histological studies have indicated it is a gray commissure and others a white commissure. Its presence has been associated with alterations in health status, including schizophrenia, psychotic states, and hydrocephalus. Thirty-one fresh human brains were evaluated randomly, to determine the presence of interthalamic adhesion and its histological composition, by way of lamina terminalis puncture of the third ventricle. Photographic records were taken and histological processes was performed by hematoxylin-eosin staining, in the case of the existence of the adhesion. It was found that 51.71% did present interthalamic adhesion, and on histological examination, no neuron bodies were found in the median part, which implies that does not correspond to a gray commissure, but interthalamic adhesion in humans is variable, with a predominance of glial cells. There is no gray commissure in human interthalamic adhesions.
