Smart Phone Applications as a Source of Information on Stroke

        Divyanshu Dubey,Amod Amritphale,Anshudha Sawhney,Nupur Amritphale,Pradeep Dubey,Ambarish Pandey 대한뇌졸중학회 2014 Journal of stroke Vol.16 No.2

Background and Purpose: Smartphone applications have been increasingly identified as a novel platform for dissemination of healthcare related information. However, there have been no studies done to evaluate the availability and content of stroke related apps. Purpose: This study aims to identify and analyze stroke-related applications available on the Apple iTunes and Android Google Play Store. Methods: The Apple iTunes store and Android Google Play Store were searched for stroke-related applications on July 27, 2013 using keywords: stroke, brain attack, intracranial hem-orrhage, subarachnoid hemorrhage, cerebral infarction. The content of the applications was analyzed by two independent investigators. Results: A total of 93 relevant applications (46.2% android and 53.8% iPhone) were identified of which 47.3% were available free of cost. 92% of apps were identified as useful by users and over 60% had scientifically valid information. There is a significant participation of healthcare agencies in dissemination of stroke related information through apps with 47.3% apps being uploaded by them. Over half of all stroke related apps were aimed towards health care workers (51.6%), 75% of which could be utilized as bedside tools for patient care and remainder had information related to recent research advances. The difference in scientific validity between the apps aimed at general population versus healthcare professionals was statistically significant (P<0.01). There was no statistical association between cost of app and scientific validity or usefulness. Conclusions: Smartphone apps are a significant source of information related to stroke. An increasing participation of healthcare agencies should be encouraged to promote dissemination of scientifically valid information.

Dubey, Rashmi,Tewari, Ashish K.,Ravikumar, K.,Sridhar, B. Korean Chemical Society 2010 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.31 No.5

Evidences have proved the versatile role of sulfur atom in supramolecular chemistry. $^1$Presence of S atom in the molecule usually results in the specific structural properties of molecules. In the present study, $S{\cdots}arene$, $N{\cdots}arene$, $CH{\cdots}{\pi}$, $CH{\cdots}S$ and $CH{\cdots}N$ type of weak interactions stabilize the conformation and self assembly of symmetrical as well as dissymmetrical molecules.

      • High-quality thin-multiwalled carbon nanotubes synthesized by Fe-Mo/MgO catalyst based on a sol-gel technique: synthesis, characterization, and field emission.

Dubey, Prashant,Choi, Sang Kyu,Choi, Ji Hoon,Shin, Dong Hoon,Lee, Cheol Jin American Scientific Publishers 2010 Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Vol.10 No.6

<P>We synthesized thin-multiwalled carbon nanotubes (t-MWCNTs) using Fe-Mo/MgO catalyst by citrate precursor method based on a simple sol-gel technique. Synthesis of high-quality t-MWCNTs with uniform diameters was achieved in large-scale by catalytic decomposition of methane over Fe-Mo/MgO catalyst prepared under Ar-atmosphere. The produced t-MWCNTs had the outer diameters in the range of 4-8 nm, with a Gaussian average diameter of 6.6 +/- 0.1 nm and wall numbers in the range of of 4-7 graphenes. The product yield of the as-synthesized t-MWCNTs was over 450% relative to the used Fe-Mo/MgO catalyst, and TGA showed purity about 85%. The t-MWCNTs showed the low turn-on field about 1.24 V/microm, corresponding to the current density of 0.1 microA/cm2, and the high emission Current density of 10 mA/cm2 at the applied electric field of 2.6 V/microm. The t-MWCNTs indicate good emission stability without any fluctuation of emission current through a lifetime measurement for 20 h. It was confirmed that the field emission performance of t-MWCNTs was similar to DWCNTs and the field emission stability of t-MWCNTs was similar to MWCNTs.</P>

      • Raspberry derived mesoporous carbon-tubules and fixed-bed adsorption of pharmaceutical drugs

Dubey, S.P.,Dwivedi, A.D.,Lee, C.,Kwon, Y.N.,Sillanpaa, M.,Ma, L.Q. Korean Society of Industrial and Engineering Chemi 2014 Journal of industrial and engineering chemistry Vol.20 No.3

Novel mesoporous carbon-tubules were prepared from wild plant leaves of Rubus idaeus (Raspberry) and their physicochemical characteristics were analyzed by spectroscopic and potentiometric titration methods. The developed carbon-tubules were applied for the aqueous phase decontamination of three pharmaceutical drugs. Ibuprofen, naproxen and clofibric acid were selected for the study. Batch and fixed-bed studies were performed to investigate the adsorption of selected pharmaceutical drugs. Mathematical modelings were applied to the experimental data in order to estimate the maximum adsorption capacity and evaluate the characteristics of the fixed-bed. Based on finding, the adsorption mechanism was investigated by adsorbate and adsorbent physicochemical characteristics.

        Dubey, S.P.,Dwivedi, A.D.,Lahtinen, M.,Lee, C.,Kwon, Y.N.,Sillanpaa, M. Pergamon 2013 Spectrochimica acta. Part A, Molecular and biomole Vol.103 No.-

This article is aimed to extend a simple protocol for preparation of various plant leaves extract and their application to green synthesis of the metallic nanoparticles. Five plant leaves extract showed mild reduction and stabilization ability for silver and gold nanoparticles (AgNPs and AuNPs) at room temperature. The particle size range varied from 25 to 42nm and 21 to 47nm for AgNPs and AuNPs, respectively. Plant leaves extract-mediated nanoparticles were characterized to confirm the shape, size, crystallinity, and content using different spectroscopic investigations. Differences in stability of nanoparticles at different pH were also measured by zeta potential.

      • Investigation of the biological and anti-cancer properties of ellagic acid-encapsulated nano-sized metalla-cages

        Dubey, Abhishek,Park, Dae Won,Kwon, Jung Eun,Jeong, Yong Joon,Kim, Taegeun,Kim, Inhye,Kang, Se Chan,Chi, Ki-Whan Dove Medical Press 2015 INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF NANOMEDICINE Vol.10 No.specal

<P>Three new large hexanuclear metalla-prisms <B>9</B>–<B>11</B> incorporating 1,3, 5-tris(pyridin-4-ylethynyl)benzene (tpeb) <B>4</B> and one of the dinuclear arene ruthenium clips [Ru2(<I>p</I>-<I>i</I>PrC6H4Me)2(<I>OO</I>∩<I>OO</I>)][CF3SO3]2 (<I>OO</I>∩<I>OO</I> =2,5-dioxydo-1,4-benzoquinonato [dobq] <B>1</B>, 5,8-dihydroxy-1,4-naphthaquinonato (donq) <B>2</B>, and 6,11-dihydroxy-5,12-naphthacenedionato [dotq] <B>3</B>), which encapsulate the guest molecule ellagic acid (2,3,7,8-tetrahydroxy-chromeno[5,4,3-cde]chromene-5,10-dione, <B>5</B>) were prepared. All complexes were isolated as triflate salts in good yields and were fully characterized by 1H NMR spectroscopy and electrospray ionization mass spectrometry. The photophysical properties of these metalla-prisms were also investigated. Compounds <B>9</B> and <B>10</B> showed potent antioxidant activity, but <B>10</B> had the superior ORACPE value (1.30±0.020). Ellagic acid (<B>5</B>) and compound <B>11</B> showed weaker activity than that of Trolox. The 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay showed that the metalla-prism compounds exhibit anticancer properties in vitro. Compound <B>10</B> inhibited the growth of all cancer cell lines at micromolar concentrations, with the highest cytotoxicity observed against A549 human lung cancer cells (IC50 =25.9 μM). However, these compounds had a lower anti-cancer activity than that of doxorubicin. In a tumoricidal assay, ellagic acid (<B>5</B>) and compound <B>10</B> induced cytotoxicity in tumor cells, while doxorubicin did not. While free ellagic acid had no effect on the granulocyte-colony stimulating factor and regulated on activation normal T cell expressed and secreted protein, the encapsulated metalla-prism <B>10</B> stimulated granulocyte-colony stimulating factor and reduced regulated on activation normal T cell expressed and secreted protein expression in the RAW264.7 macrophage line. Our results show that ellagic acid encapsulated in metalla-prisms inhibited cancer cells via the modulation of mRNA induction and protein expression levels of the granulocyte-colony stimulating factor and regulated on activation normal T cell expressed and secreted protein in macrophages.</P>

      • Agroinfiltration-based expression of hairpin RNA in soybean plants for RNA interference against <i>Tetranychus urticae</i>

Dubey, Vimal Kumar,Lee, Ung Gyu,Kwon, Deok Ho,Lee, Si Hyeock Elsevier 2017 Pesticide biochemistry and physiology Vol.142 No.-

<P>The coatomer subunit alpha (COPA) and aquaporin 9 (AQ9) genes from the two-spotted spider mite, Tetranychus urticae, were previously determined to exhibit RNA interference (RNAi)-based lethality when their double stranded RNAs were systemically delivered via multi-unit chambers (Kwon et al., 2016 [8]). In current study, the hairpin RNAs of the COPA and AQ9 were transiently expressed in soybean plants by agroinfiltration. When T. urticae was fed with the soybean plants agroinfiltrated with the COPA and AQ9 hairpin RNA cassettes, the cumulative mortality increased significantly at 6 days post-infestation. Quantitative PCR analysis revealed that the transcript level of both COPA and AQ9 was significantly reduced in T. urticae after 2 days post-infestation, thereby confirming that the significant increases in mortality resulted from the knockdown of COPA and AQ9 transcripts. Our findings demonstrate the utility of COPA and AQ9 as potential genes for plant host-mediated RNAi control of T. urticae. In addition, we proved the usefulness of agroinfiltration as a rapid validation tool for confirming the RNAi-based lethality of target genes against arthropod pests before producing transgenic plants as agroinfiltration requires less time and skill to validate transgene function. Furthermore, these findings prove the concept that hairpin RNA expressed in plant hosts can also induce RNAi and eventually kill T. urticae, a sap-sucking pest. (C) 2017 Elsevier Inc. • Breast Cancer Statistics and Prediction Methodology: A Systematic Review and Analysis

Dubey, Ashutosh Kumar,Gupta, Umesh,Jain, Sonal Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.10

Breast cancer is a menacing cancer, primarily affecting women. Continuous research is going on for detecting breast cancer in the early stage as the possibility of cure in early stages is bright. There are two main objectives of this current study, first establish statistics for breast cancer and second to find methodologies which can be helpful in the early stage detection of the breast cancer based on previous studies. The breast cancer statistics for incidence and mortality of the UK, US, India and Egypt were considered for this study. The finding of this study proved that the overall mortality rates of the UK and US have been improved because of awareness, improved medical technology and screening, but in case of India and Egypt the condition is less positive because of lack of awareness. The methodological findings of this study suggest a combined framework based on data mining and evolutionary algorithms. It provides a strong bridge in improving the classification and detection accuracy of breast cancer data.
