Celery (Apium graveolens) is traditionally used to treat rheumatism and cardiovascular disorders. Hyperuricemia is considered as a predisposing factor for gout and is also suggested to be associated with coronary artery disease. In the present study, the effect of hydroalcoholic extracts from A. graveolens (AGE) against potassium oxonate (PO)-induced hyperuricemia was investigated in mice. AGE (250, 500, and 1,000 mg/kg) or allopurinol (5 mg/kg, as positive control) were orally administrated 1 h after PO injection (250 mg/kg, ip) for two weeks. After that, the serum uric acid level and hepatic xanthine dehydrogenase (XDH) and xanthine oxidase (XO) activities were measured. In addition, the antioxidant activity of AGE was determined by assessment of hepatic lipid peroxidation, in vivo and the ferric reducing/antioxidant power assay, in vitro. The extract exhibited good capacity to reduce ferric ion to ferrous ion with mean value of 63.8±8.5 μmol/g. The data also showed that oxonate treatment produced a significant increase in serum uric acid level (4.6 vs. 2.3 mg/ dL, P<0.001), liver XO/XDH activities (P<0.01 and P<0.001, respectively), and hepatic lipid peroxides levels (about two fold, P<0.01), compared to the healthy mice. AGE significantly decreased the serum uric acid level, hepatic XO/XDH activities, and lipid peroxidation, in a dose-dependent manner. Oral administration of 1,000 mg/kg AGE for two weeks reversed the elevated serum uric acid level (2.7 vs. 4.6 mg/dL, P<0.001) and significantly inhibited liver XO/XDH activities (P<0.001) and diminished hepatic lipid peroxidation (0.45 vs. 0.82 nmol/mg protein, P<0.05), compared with hyperuricemic mice. AGE (1,000 mg/kg) per se did not significantly modify these parameters. Our results demonstrated that AGE could reduce the serum uric acid level via inhibition of hepatic XDH/XO and indicated its potential utility as an effective hypouricemic bioactive agent or functional food.

Background: This study aimed to investigate the effects of curcumin supplementation alone and in combination with aerobic training on body composition, glycemic variables, serum levels of C-reactive protein (CRP) and lipid profiles in overweight women. Methods: In this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, 40 healthy sedentary overweight females (aged 30–45 years with body mass index [BMI] of 25–30 kg/m2) were randomly assigned to four groups of 10 subjects each: curcumin supplementation (Cur), placebo (Pla), placebo+aerobic training (Pla+Tra), curcumin supplementation+aerobic training (Cur+Tra). Curcumin or placebo capsules (500 mg/day) were administered for 8 weeks. Results: During the intervention, Cur group showed significant reductions in weight, BMI and fasting blood glucose level; Cur+Tra group decreased waist circumference, waist-to-hip ratio, homeostatic model assessment for insulin resistance, serum insulin level, low-density lipoprotein to high-density lipoprotein ratio, and total cholesterol to high-density lipoprotein ratio and increased serum high-density lipoprotein cholesterol. The between-groups analysis indicated increased high-density lipoprotein cholesterol in the Cur and Cur+Tra groups compared to the Pla group. The estimated marginal means of serum CRP were significantly higher in Pla+Tra group than in the Cur and Cur+Tra groups. Conclusion: These findings suggest that the combination of curcumin supplementation with aerobic training more effectively improves glycemic and lipidemic statuses than curcumin supplementation or aerobic training alone.
THE IDENTITY-SUMMAND GRAPH OF COMMUTATIVE SEMIRINGS
Shahabaddin Ebrahimi Atani,Saboura Dolati Pish Hesari,Mehdi Khoramdel 대한수학회 2014 대한수학회지 Vol.51 No.1
An element r of a commutative semiring R with identity is said to be identity-summand if there exists 1 ≠ α ∈ R such that r+a = 1. In this paper, we introduce and investigate the identity-summand graph of R, denoted by Γ(R). It is the (undirected) graph whose vertices are the non-identity identity-summands of R with two distinct vertices joint by an edge when the sum of the vertices is 1. The basic properties and possible structures of the graph Γ(R) are studied.

Let R be an I-semiring and S(R) be the set of all identity- summand elements of R. In this paper we introduce the total graph of R with respect to identity-summand elements, denoted by T(Γ(R)), and investigate basic properties of S(R) which help us to gain interesting results about T(Γ(R)) and its subgraphs.
TOTAL IDENTITY-SUMMAND GRAPH OF A COMMUTATIVE SEMIRING WITH RESPECT TO A CO-IDEAL

Let R be a semiring, I a strong co-ideal of R and S(I) the set of all elements of R which are not prime to I. In this paper we investigate some interesting properties of S(I) and introduce the total identity-summand graph of a semiring R with respect to a co-ideal I. It is the graph with all elements of R as vertices and for distinct x, y ∈ R, the vertices x and y are adjacent if and only if xy ∈ S(I).

In this paper, we provide some general results for the usual stochastic ordering of the extreme order statistics arising from two sets of random variables with different marginal distributions and different underlying Archimedean copulas structure. Application to some general models as marginal distributions which are including the well-known semiparametric family of distributions in statistics, is discussed.

The purpose of this paper is to introduce the concept of strongly extending modules which are particular subclass of the class of extending modules, and study some basic properties of this new class of modules. A module M is called strongly extending if each submodule of M is essential in a fully invariant direct summand of M. In this paper we examine the behavior of the class of strongly extending modules with respect to the preservation of this property in direct summands and direct sums and give some properties of these modules, for instance, strongly summand intersection property and weakly co-Hopfian property. Also such modules are characterized over commutative Dedekind domains.

Various anomalies for the origin of the middle meningeal artery (MMA)have been described in the literature. However, origin of the MMA fromthe basilar trunk is an extremely rare variant. We report on a 54-year-oldfemale who presented with frequent headaches; magnetic resonanceimaging showed a right parietal meningioma. The abnormal origin of themiddle meningeal artery from the basilar artery was diagnosed by angiographyperformed for preoperative embolization of the tumor. We reporton the case with a review of the embryologic basis, possible explanationsfor this aberrant origin, and its clinical implications.
Direct Sums of Strongly Lifting Modules
Shahabaddin Ebrahimi Atani,Mehdi Khoramdel,Saboura Dolati Pishhesari 경북대학교 자연과학대학 수학과 2020 Kyungpook mathematical journal Vol.60 No.4
For the recently defined notion of strongly lifting modules, it has been shown that a direct sum is not, in general, strongly lifting. In this paper we investigate the question: When are the direct sums of strongly lifting modules, also strongly lifting? We introduce the notion of a relatively strongly projective module and use it to show if M = M1+M2 is amply supplemented, then M is strongly lifting if and only if M1 and M2 are relatively strongly projective and strongly lifting. Also, we consider when an arbitrary direct sum of hollow (resp. local) modules is strongly lifting.
