      • A Simple 3D Shape Measurement System based on Fringe Pattern Projection Using an Uncalibrated Projector

        Din Irfanud,Anwar Hafeez,Dongmin Cho(조동민),Kang Park(박강) (사)한국CDE학회 2010 한국 CAD/CAM 학회 학술발표회 논문집 Vol.2010 No.1

In this paper we presents a simple 3D shape measurement system, without projector calibration ,with some basic steps needed to increase the accuracy, an LCD projector is used to project a set of fringe patterns, onto the surface of the object, the projected patterns are captured with a CCD camera, the phase variations in the projected pattern, caused by the depth of the object, are used to construct a dense 3-D point cloud representing the surface of the object using Homography, phase unwrapping and phase map to coordinate conversion. The phase to height conversion constant is obtained using calibration standards, which reduces the complexity of the system and enable the system to measure 3D objects without projector calibration. The fringe pattern technique has many advantages due to its fast speed, low cast and accuracy. This work provides a strong base for the development of any 3-D measurement system which has tremendous industrial applications like dental scanners, virtual reality, CAD/CAM systems and military applications. The experimental results described are obtained using a HS200 LG LCD projector and UEYE CCD camera with 1024*768 resolutions.

      • Projector calibration for pattern projection system

        Anwar Hafeez,Din Irfanud,Dongmin Cho(조동민),Kang Park(박강) (사)한국CDE학회 2010 한국 CAD/CAM 학회 학술발표회 논문집 Vol.2010 No.1

In this work a structured light system was designed with the help of an already calibrated camera and the projector calibration. Since the projector works in reverse of a camera i.e. it projects the image instead of capturing it, so it can be considered as a reverse camera. The camera was already calibrated and the projector was calibrated with the help of this calibrated camera using the two types of checkerboard; a printed checkerboard and a projected checkerboard by the projector. In this work the projector calibration was studied and done using two approaches. First approach measures the object points of the projected checkerboard with the help of calibrated camera and the image points are directly acquired from the checkerboard to be projected. Then using these object points and image points the projector was calibrated. The second approach makes use of Homography. The Homography from camera to projector was calculated and then the images seen by the projector were generated by applying this Homography. The images were then used to calibrate the projector in a similar manner as that of the camera calibration. Once the projector calibration was done; a stereo vision system was setup using the calibrated camera and the calibrated projector. Using this stereo vision system any type 3D and 2D geometrical shapes can be reconstructed and measured accurately.

Projector Calibration for 3D Scanning Using Virtual Target Images

Hafeez Anwar,박강,Irfanud Din 한국정밀공학회 2012 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol. No.

In this work we propose a novel method to calibrate the projector. Calibration of the projector deals with the calculation of geometric parameters of the projector which are intrinsic and extrinsic parameters. An un-calibrated camera assists the process of finding the geometric parameters for projector. This method exploits the fact that a projector can be treated as inverse camera. The camera captures the scene and saves it as an image while the projector projects an image on the scene. Camera to projector transformation is used to make the projector able to see the calibration pattern. Then the projector is calibrated in a similar fashion like camera. Real data is used to evaluate the proposed method of projector calibration and good results are obtained.
