Embryonic lethality due to recessive alleles is a major concern in livestock breeding programs. The Online Mendelian Inheritance in Animal (OMIA) is a database of reported recessive mutations in livestock that helps breeders to manage the segregation of these mutations in their population. Recessive alleles are lethal in the offspring of two carrier parents; therefore, identifying and eliminating carrier animals are critical for maintaining the breed. Hanwoo cattle is native to the Korean peninsula and is of great economic importance to Korea. Due to geographical constraints and the controlled breeding program with very few proven bulls, if not monitored periodically, the threat of segregation of recessive lethal alleles in the population remains high. Therefore, identifying potential carriers of lethal recessive alleles is critical in Hanwoo. In this regard, we genotyped 17,325 animals using bovine 50K Illumina SNP chip and also sequenced a further 311 animals which was mapped against the bovine reference genome sequence. We then used the OMIA database to identify reported recessive alleles and calculated the allele frequency of these mutations in the population to determine potential lethal alleles carried by the animals.

Eu2+ and Eu2++Ln3+ doped SrAl4O7 nanophosphors were synthesized byrapid gel combustion process. The morphology of prepared phosphorswas examined with scanning and transmission electron microscopy. The phase identification and the crystal structures of nanophosphorswere studied using X-ray powder diffraction techniques. Luminescencecharacteristics of the prepared nanophosphors were analyzed on accountof excitation, emission and phosphorescence decay analysis. Theemission spectra demonstrated the broad green emission attributed to4f65d1→ 4f7 transition of the Eu2+ ions. The effect of codoping of sometrivalent lanthanide (Dy3+, Pr3+ and Y3+) ions were investigated forimproving the emission intensity and phosphorescence decay time ofthe basic lattice of SrAl4O7:Eu2+ phosphors. The synthesized materialshad enhanced bright luminescent properties that could suitably beapplied for display as well as photovoltaic applications.
Topological sensitivity and its stronger forms on semiflows
Ruchi Das,Devender Kumar,Mohammad Salman 대한수학회 2024 대한수학회보 Vol.61 No.1
In this paper we introduce and study the notions of topological sensitivity and its stronger forms on semiflows and on product semiflows. We give a relationship between multi-topological sensitivity and thick topological sensitivity on semiflows. We prove that for a Urysohn space $X$, a syndetically transitive semiflow $(T,X,\pi)$ having a point of proper compact orbit is syndetic topologically sensitive. Moreover, it is proved that for a $T_3$ space $X$, a transitive, nonminimal semiflow $(T,X,\pi)$ having a dense set of almost periodic points is syndetic topologically sensitive. Also, wherever necessary examples/counterexamples are given.

Purpose: We investigated the effects of behavioral skills training package with parents to use picture exchange communication system (PECS) with their children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) to develop communication skills. Methods: Two parents and their children with ASD (one child per family) participated in this study. A multiple baseline design was used during the parents’ training, and a changing criterion design was used during parents’ implementation of PECS with children. Results: Results indicated that both parents implemented PECS intervention with their children with high procedural integrity and required minimal feedback through Bug-in-Ear at the end of the intervention. Moreover, both children acquired independent picture exchanges with their parents who implemented PECS training and generalized and maintained the skills. Conclusions: The findings suggest that when parents receive appropriate training and feedback, they can train their children to use PECS to independently request desired items or activities. The current study extends existing research on PECS by teaching parents as the primary PECS trainers to implement the strategy with their children.

Cost-effective urea assisted solution combustion (SC) synthetic method was employed to prepare a series of doped YAlO3:xDy3+ (0.01–0.08 mol) phosphors. The resulting powdered samples were comprehensively examined through various structural as well as optical measurements. Rietveld refinement studies concluded that prepared nanomaterials structured into the orthorhombic system having Pbnm (62) space group. Energy dispersive spectral (EDS) analysis was executed to observe the relative proportions of constituent elements in all doped nanophosphors. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) micrograph indicated the presence of agglomerated particles with the average size in the nano range. Photoluminescence excitation (PLE) spectra showed that the designated phosphors could be excited by near ultraviolet (NUV) energized lighting sources. The strongest emission centred at 576 nm, corresponding to electric dipole (4F9/2 → 6H13/2) transition of Dy(III) ion. Furthermore, characteristics photometric parameters viz. correlated color temperature (CCT), chromaticity coordinates (x and y), and color purity (%) were figure out with the aid of PL data, which strongly endorsed their usage in NUV energized WLEDs applications.

Powdery mildew of Indian mustard (Brassica juncea), caused by Erysiphe cruciferarum, is emerging as ma- jor problem in India. All the Indian mustard cultivars presently grown in India are highly susceptible to pow- dery mildew and so far no resistance source has been reported. In this study, with an aim to identify resistant source, 1,020 Indian mustard accessions were evaluated against E. cruciferarum PMN isolate, at Wellington, The Nilgiris, Tamil Nadu, India under natural hot spot conditions. The study identified one accession (RDV 29) with complete resistance against E. cruciferarum PMN isolate for the first time, which was consistent in five independent evaluations. Genetic analysis of F1, F2 and backcross populations obtained from the cross RSEJ 775 (highly susceptible) × RDV 29 (highly resistant) for two season revealed that the resistance is governed by two genes with semi-dominant and gene dosage effect. Further, a new disease rating system using six scales (0, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5) has also been proposed in this study to score powdery mildew based on progress of fungal growth in different plant parts of the F2 population. The outcome of this study viz. newly identified powdery mildew-resistant Indian mustard accession (RDV 29), information on inheritance of resistance and the newly developed disease rating scale will provide the base for development of powdery mildew-resistant cultivars of Indian mustard.
