        This research paper focus into the most challenging aspect of any MFIs that is the evaluation of credit worthiness of a client prior to loan disbursement using credit scoring score card and collection of data regarding the repayment in a very cost effective way. Though this method of grass-root economic development has showed pledge throughout the world but conversely problems may arise if the proper systems are not in place to support the intensification of microfinance. If lending institutions are not well-versed about the credit-worthiness of potential clients, it can lead to negative effects on the performance of MFI loan portfolios and will result in over-indebtedness of clients.

        Effects of Si and Oxide Additives on Phase Evolution, Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Si3N4–Mo Cermet Fabricated by Conventional Powder Metallurgy

        Silicon nitride (Si3N4) based cermets are very popular due to their versatile applications like high temperature engine parts,cutting tools, refractory and structural applications. Here, in this work, Si3N4–Mo (Si3N4 as matrix and molybdenum asreinforcement) and Si3N4–Mo–Si (Si3N4 as matrix, Mo and Si as reinforcement) cermets are fabricated through powder metallurgyroute and phase evolution, micro-structure and mechanical properties are analyzed. Three initial powder compositionsof 90Si3N4–10Mo (S90M10), 75Si3N4–25Mo (S75M25) and 75Si3N4–15Mo–10Si (SMS) (all in wt%) are prepared throughplanetary milling and total additive amount of 5, 10 and 15 wt% of Y2O3and Al2O3are mixed (equal wt ratio of each) withmilled base powder, cold compacted and followed by conventional pressure-less sintering at 1500 °C for 1 h. The effects ofadditives and reinforcements on phase evolution, microstructure and mechanical properties are discussed. From XRD andSEM analysis of sintered pellets, the presence of molybdenum silicide (i.e. Mo3Si,Mo5Si3and MoSi2)in all the cermetsis confirmed. It has been observed that the relative density and hardness values are increased with the increase in additivewt%. Comparing all the cermets, 75Si3N4–15Mo–10Si with 10 wt% additives has shown the maximum compression strengthand fracture toughness of 134.2 MPa and 8.89 ± 0.34 MPa.m1/2 respectively. The maximum relative density of 75.24% isobserved in S90M10and hardness of 8.81 ± 0.13 GPa is found in S75M25both cermets containing 15 wt% of additives. Thetransformation from α- to β- Si3N4is observed in all the cermets after sintering.

        Effect of Oxcarbazepine on Serum Brain Derived Neurotrophic Factor in Bipolar Mania: An Exploratory Study

        Objective: In bipolar disorder, serum brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) level decreases leading to dysfunctions of critical neurotrophic, cellular plasticity and neuroprotective processes. The present study was conducted to evaluate the change in serum BDNF level with oxcarbazepine monotherapy in bipolar mania. Methods: The present study is a prospective, interventional, open label clinical study conducted on 25 patients of bipolar mania and 25 healthy controls. Detailed history, clinical evaluation including Young Mania Rating Scale (YMRS) scoring and serum BDNF were assessed at baseline for all 50 subjects. The bipolar patients were prescribed tablet oxcarbazepine and followed up after 4 weeks for clinical evaluation and re-estimation of serum BDNF and YMRS scoring. Results: The serum BDNF level in bipolar manic patients were compared with healthy controls at baseline and results revealed that there is a significant reduction (p=0.002) in serum BDNF level in bipolar patients. At follow-up after 4 weeks, the mean change in serum BDNF in bipolar group who were on oxcarbazepine monotherapy was found statistically significant (p=0.02) in comparison to healthy controls. In bipolar group, the YMRS score and serum BDNF at baseline have an inverse relation(r=−0.59) whereas change of the YMRS score had a positive correlation (r=0.67) with the change of serum BDNF over 4 weeks. Conclusion: In bipolar mania serum BDNF level is low and it is found to be increased with short term monotherapy with oxcarbazepine.
