      • Genetic or pharmacological depletion of cannabinoid CB1 receptor protects against dopaminergic neurotoxicity induced by methamphetamine in mice

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Accumulating evidence suggests that cannabinoid ligands play delicate roles in cell survival and apoptosis decisions, and that cannabinoid CB1 receptors (CB1R) modulate dopaminergic function. However, the role of CB1R in methamphetamine (MA)-induced dopaminergic neurotoxicity in vivo remains elusive. Multiple high doses of MA increased phospho-ERK and CB1R mRNA expressions in the striatum of CB1R (+/+) mice. These increases were attenuated by CB1R antagonists (i.e., AM251 and rimonabant), an ERK inhibitor (U0126), or dopamine D2R antagonist (sulpiride). In addition, treatment with MA resulted in dopaminergic impairments, which were attenuated by CB1R knockout or CB1R antagonists (i.e., AM251 and rimonabant). Consistently, MA-induced oxidative stresses (i.e., protein oxidation, lipid peroxidation and reactive oxygen species) and pro-apoptotic changes (i.e., increases in Bax, cleaved PKCδ- and cleaved caspase 3-expression and decrease in Bcl-2 expression) were observed in the striatum of CB1R (+/+) mice. These toxic effects were attenuated by CB1R knockout or CB1R antagonists. Consistently, treatment with four high doses of CB1R agonists (i.e., WIN 55,212-2 36mg/kg and ACEA 16mg/kg) also resulted in significant oxidative stresses, pro-apoptotic changes, and dopaminergic impairments. Since CB1R co-immunoprecipitates PKCδ in the presence of MA or CB1R agonists, we applied PKCδ knockout mice to clarify the role of PKCδ in the neurotoxicity elicited by CB1Rs. CB1R agonist-induced toxic effects were significantly attenuated by CB1R knockout, CB1R antagonists or PKCδ knockout.         A Compact and Wideband Bandpass Filter Using Microstrip Balanced CRLH Structure

        이 논문에서는 X-밴드 레이더의 수신기 모듈을 위한 Balanced Composite Right/Left-handed(CRLH) 구조를 이용한 높은 Q값을 갖는 광대역, 저비용, 소형 마이크로스트립 필터를 설계하였다. CRLH 구성요소는 각 대역통과 필터의 공식들을 통해 개별적으로 도출되며, X-밴드에서는 기존의 수동소자를 이용한 CRLH 필터를 대체하는 마이크로스트립 CRLH 필터가 필요로 한다. 또한 Balance 조건을 만족하기 위하여 마이크로스트립 갭과 단락 스터브를 사용하며, ANSYS HFSS 시뮬레이션을 사용하였다. 설계된 필터의 대역폭은 3 dB에서 1400 MHz, 9 GHz - 10 GHz 범위에서 최대 입력 손실 0.94 dB, 7 GHz에서 48 dB, 12 GHz에서 35 dB의 감쇠값을 가진다. 전체 크기는 수신기의 캐비터 필터에 적합한 6 mm × 5 mm × 0.87 mm이다. In this work, a compact and low-cost microstrip filter is designed for receiver module of X-band radar. The balanced composite right/left-handed (CRLH) structure is utilized to obtain high quality factor and wideband filter. The CRLH components" formulas are derived individually for band-pass filter. At X-band, the microstrip CRLH filter are required to substitute conventional lumped CRLH one. To guarantee the condition of balance, the microstrip gap and shorted-stub are used. The parasitic elements of these components are handled by full-wave simulator of ANSYS High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS). The results are achieved with 3 dB bandwidth of 1400 MHz, the maximum insertion loss in range of 9 GHz - 10 GHz only 0.94 dB, the high rejections are 48 dB at 7 GHz and 35 dB at 12 GHz and the dimension of 6 mm × 5 mm × 0.87 mm that is a good candidate for cavity filter in the receiver.

        PKCδ-dependent p47<i>phox</i> activation mediates methamphetamine-induced dopaminergic neurotoxicity

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Protein kinase C (PKC) has been recognized to activate NADPH oxidase (PHOX). However, the interaction between PKC and PHOX <I>in vivo</I> remains elusive. Treatment with methamphetamine (MA) resulted in a selective increase in PKCδ expression out of PKC isoforms. PKCδ co-immunoprecipitated with p47<I>phox</I>, and facilitated phosphorylation and membrane translocation of p47<I>phox</I>. MA-induced increases in PHOX activity and reactive oxygen species were attenuated by knockout of p47<I>phox</I> or PKCδ. In addition, MA-induced impairments in the Nrf-2-related glutathione synthetic system were also mitigated by knockout of p47<I>phox</I> or PKCδ. Glutathione-immunoreactivity was co-localized in Iba-1-labeled microglial cells and in NeuN-labeled neurons, but not in GFAP-labeled astrocytes, reflecting the necessity for self-protection against oxidative stress by mainly microglia. Buthionine-sulfoximine, an inhibitor of glutathione biosynthesis, potentiated microglial activation and pro-apoptotic changes, leading to dopaminergic losses. These neurotoxic processes were attenuated by rottlerin, a pharmacological inhibitor of PKCδ, genetic inhibitions of PKCδ <B>[</B>i.e., PKCδ knockout mice (KO) and PKCδ antisense oligonucleotide (ASO)<B>]</B>, or genetic inhibition of p47<I>phox</I> (i.e., p47<I>phox</I> KO or p47<I>phox</I> ASO). Rottlerin did not exhibit any additive effects against the protective activity offered by genetic inhibition of p47<I>phox</I>.       • Control of a 3-D overhead crane modelled as a 7 degree of freedom double pendulum

        In this paper, a sliding mode control of a 3-D overhead crane is investigated, where a 7-DOF double pendulum dynamic model of the crane is considered in the control design. The Euler-Lagrange equations is employed to derive the dynamic model of the overhead crane. The proposed sliding mode control law guarantees the asymptotical stability of the crane. The numerical simulations and experiments are carried out to verify the effectiveness of the proposed control method, where the consistency between numerical simulation and experiment results are shown.

        Design of a Highly Efficient Broadband Class-E Power Amplifier with a Low Q Series Resonance

        This work presents a method used for designing a broadband class-E power amplifier that combines the two techniques of a nonlinear shunt capacitance and a low quality factor of a series resonator. The nonlinear shunt capacitance theory accurately extracts the value of class-E components. In addition, the quality factor of the series resonator was considered to obtain a wide bandwidth for the power amplifiers. The purpose of using this method was to produce a simple topology and a high efficiency, which are two outstanding features of a class-E power amplifier. The experimental results show that a design was created using from a 130 to 180 MHz frequency with a bandwidth of 32% and a peak measured power added efficiency of 84.8%. This prototype uses an MRF282SR1 MOSFET transistor at a 3-W output power level. Furthermore, a summary of the experimental results compared with other high-efficiency articles is provided to validate the advantages of this method.

        A Highly Efficient Broadband Class-E Power Amplifier with Nonlinear Shunt Capacitance

        A new approach to designing a broadband and highly efficient class-E power amplifier based on nonlinear shunt capacitance analysis is proposed. The nonlinear shunt capacitance method accurately extracts optimum class-E power amplifier parameters, including an external shunt capacitance and an output impedance, at different frequencies. The dependence of the former parameter on the frequency is considered to select an optimal value of external shunt capacitor. Then, upon determining the latter parameter, an output matching network is optimized to obtain the highest efficiency across the bandwidth of interest. An analytical approach is presented to design the broadband class-E power amplifier of a MOSFET transistor. The proposed method is experimentally verified by a 140–170 MHz class-E power amplifier design with maximum added power efficiency of 82% and output power of 34 dBm.

        Influence of Credit on the Income of Households Borrowing from Banks: Evidence from Vietnam Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, Kien Giang Province

        This paper investigates the determinants of credit accessibility and the effect of credit on the income of farm households borrowing from Vietnam Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, Giong Rieng District Branch, Kien Giang Province. Based on the primary data of 200 farming households who are the customer of the bank, the study applied the Probit regression model to examine determinant factors of credit accessibility of farm households and employed the Propensity score matching method to investigate the impact of credit on households’ income. The findings of the Probit regression shown that three independent variables that significantly influence the access to credit of households are household size, income source, and farm size. Besides that, the Propensity score matching method results showed a difference of 23.799 million VND/year between the income of borrowing households and that of non-borrowing households at the significance level of 1%. The difference in the imcome from the interval and central matching methods are VND 24.700 million VND/year and VND 24.633 million VND/year, respectively. Given empirical findings suggetsted that several recommendations to increase the credit accessibility of farm households, thereby creating favorable conditions for improving their income.

      • High-Performance Flexible Ultraviolet (UV) Phototransistor Using Hybrid Channel of Vertical ZnO Nanorods and Graphene

        <P>A flexible ultraviolet (UV) photodetector based on ZnO nanorods (NRs) as nanostructure sensing materials integrated into a graphene (Gr) field-effect transistor (FET) platform is investigated with high performance. Based on the negative shift of the Dirac point (<I>V</I><SUB>Dirac</SUB>) in the transfer characteristics of a phototransistor, high-photovoltage responsivity (<I>R</I><SUB>V</SUB>) is calculated with a maximum value of 3 × 10<SUP>8</SUP> V W<SUP>–1</SUP>. The peak response at a wavelength of ∼365 nm indicated excellent selectivity to UV light. The phototransistor also allowed investigation of the photocurrent responsivity (<I>R</I><SUB>I</SUB>) and photoconductive gain (<I>G</I>) at various gate voltages, with maximum values of 2.5 × 10<SUP>6</SUP> A W<SUP>–1</SUP> and 8.3 × 10<SUP>6</SUP>, respectively, at a gate bias of 5 V. The UV response under bending conditions was virtually unaffected and was unchanged after 10 000 bending cycles at a bending radius of 12 mm, subject to a strain of 0.5%.
