        NEW PROCEDURE TO ESTIMATE THE BRAKE WARPING IN A ROLLER TESTER

        Vehicle systems such as the steering, brakes and suspension greatly influence vehicle safety. Therefore, these systems must be inspected to guarantee that they are functioning correctly and to certify that the vehicle is functioning at a satisfactory safety level. In disc brakes, warping is one of the principal reasons for vibrations and noise, and it contributes to diminished brake efficiency. Currently, the International Motor Vehicle Inspection Committee (CITA) demands disc brake warping inspections occur during periodic motor vehicle inspections (PMVIs); however, the procedure to carry out this inspection is not well defined. In this investigation, the warping phenomenon has been analyzed, and a new inspection procedure is proposed.

        Analytical Design and Stability Analysis of the Universal Integral Regulator Applied in Flight Control

        This paper considers the analytical design and stability analysis of an output feedback flight controlproblem for a rigid fighter aircraft which has a highly nonlinear dynamic. In this paper, a robust technique knownas Universal Integral Regulator (UIR) has been chosen to solve the tracking problem due to the possibility todemonstrate the stability of the system and analytically compute the control parameters. The UIR is a combinationof Continuous Sliding Mode Control (CSMC) and a Conditional Integrator (CI) which provides integral actiononly inside the boundary layer, enhancing the transient response of the system and providing an equilibrium pointwhere the tracking error is zero. The general procedure consists firstly of rewriting the aircraft dynamics in thecontrol-affine form, then the relative degree of the system is computed and the system is transformed to normalform. An output feedback controller using a CSMC controller is proposed, and a sliding surface considering a CIis designed. The controller parameters are designed analytically, taking into account two approaches. The firstapproach does not consider uncertain parameters and the second one treats a stability derivative as a parametricuncertainty. Simulations were performed in order to validate the design procedure of the control technique andto demonstrate the robustness of the UIR. Detailed step by step information about the computing of the controllerparameters was done and an analytical analysis of stability was developed to demonstrate the convergence of thesliding surface, conditional integrator and tracking error dynamics.

        Diagnosis and Integrated Management of Fruit Rot in Cucurbita argyrosperma, Caused by Sclerotium rolfsii

        Fruit rot is the principal phytopathological problem of pipiana pumpkin (Cucurbita argyrosperma Huber) in the state of Guerrero. The aims of this research were to 1) identify the causal agent of southern blight on pumpkin fruits by morphological, pathogenic, and molecular analysis (ITS1, 5.8S, ITS2); 2) evaluate in vitro Trichoderma spp. strains and chemical fungicides; and 3) evaluate under rainfed field conditions, the strains that obtained the best results in vitro, combined with fungicides during two crop cycles. Number of commercial and non-commercial fruits at harvest, and seed yield (kg ha-1) were registered. Morphological, pathogenic and molecular characterization identified Sclerotium rolfsii as the causal agent of rot in pipiana pumpkin fruits. Now, in vitro conditions, the highest inhibition of S. rolfsii were obtained by Trichoderma virens strain G-41 (70.72%), T. asperellum strain CSAEGro-1 (69%), and the fungicides metalaxyl (100%), pyraclostrobin (100%), quintozene (100%), cyprodinil + fludioxonil (100%), and prochloraz (100%). Thiophanate-methyl only delayed growth (4.17%). In field conditions, during the spring-summer 2015 cycle, T. asperellum strain CSAEGro-1 + metalaxyl, and T. asperellum + cyprodinil + fludioxonil, favored the highest number of fruits and seed yield in the crop.

        Efficacy of an oral hyaluronate and collagen supplement as a preventive treatment of elbow dysplasia

        One hundred and five Labrador dogs were randomlydivided into two groups to determine the number of animalsthat develop elbow dysplasia when treated with an oralsupplement compared to untreated ones. Efficacy of the oraltreatment was also evaluated once illness was diagnosed. The supplement (Hyaloral) contained hyaluronic acid,hydrolysed collagen, glucosamine, chondroitin sulphate,and gamma oryzanol. Clinical evaluation of the elbow jointswas completed at months 3, 6, 12, and 20 by orthopaedicevaluations, radiography, serologic and blood analysis, andveterinarian evaluation of dysplasia symptoms. All sideeffects were recorded. In the control group, 33.3% of thedogs developed radiographic evidence of elbow dysplasiacompared to 18.5% in the treated group. Symptoms ofdysplasia at 12 months differed between the treated (12.5%)and control (61.5%) animals, and were significantlydifferent at 20 months (p < 0.05). Differences in lamenessalong with movement and swelling of the elbows betweengroups were observed after 12 months. The treated grouphad improved significantly by the last visit (p < 0.05). Noadverse side effects were reported. In conclusion, oraltreatment with Hyaloral may have a potential cumulativeaction that provides protection against dysplasia and significantly improves symptoms of elbow dysplasia.
