The Book of Kells in Finnegans Wake

        ( Cong Rong Dai ) 한국제임스조이스학회 2012 제임스조이스저널 Vol.18 No.2

The Book of Kells is not only a leitmotif in James Joyce`s Finnegans Wake, but also a thematic and an aesthetic source of it. The two hens painted in the Book of Kells inspire both the hen described in Finnegans Wake as well as the idea of hidden truth which leads to the difficult style of Finnegans Wake. The connection between these two books indicates the connection between HCE and Jesus Christ. Furthermore, the richness and variation of Finnegans Wake could better be understood with the rich and varied decorations in the Book of Kells, which shows an aesthetic difference from that of high modernism.

      • Concept Similarity Measure with Hierarchy Structure and Information

        Cong Dai,Dongmei Li,Hui han,Qichen Han,Jiajia Hou 보안공학연구지원센터 2015 International Journal of Hybrid Information Techno Vol.8 No.8

Calculating semantic similarity between concepts in ontology is an important issue in natural language processing and so on, so how to measure the similarity becomes a hot topic among many scholars. However, most existing methods cannot distinguish the similarity further. Confronting this problem, we propose a new semantic similarity method combining hierarchy structure of ontology and information content of two concepts based on domain ontology, which highlights the semantic information of leaves in the ontology structure. Our experiment demonstrates that, compared with other available methods, our proposal can improve the accuracy between two leaves and between leaf and non-leaf.

        Picolyamine Based pH/Temperature Sensitive Hydrogels

        Dai Phu Huynh,Cong Truc Huynh,이두성 한국고분자학회 2010 Macromolecular Research Vol.18 No.6

pH/temperature-sensitive hydrogels have attracted increasing attention as drug/protein delivery systems. This study reports a new pH sensitive moiety of picolyamine (PCA) and its pentablock copolymer hydrogels made from triblock PCL-PEG-PCL and picolyamine oligomer (OPCA). The picolyamine monomer (PCAM) was synthesized using the picolyamine and methacryloyl chloride coupling reaction. OPCA was synthesized by conventional radical polymerization from PCAM. The pKa of the pH sensitive moiety, OPCA, was found to be 6.65. The moiety was used to couple with PCL-PEG-PCL to produce the pentablock copolymer, OPCA-PCL-PEG-PCL-OPCA. The sol-gel phase transition of the aqueous solution of this material was affected by the pH and temperature change. In addition, the gel phase region could be controlled by the molecular weight of OPCA, the PCL/PEG ratio and chain length of PEG. This material could be used as an injectable hydrogel for drug/protein delivery.

Application of a C-Type Filter Based LCFL Output Filter to Shunt Active Power Filters

        Cong Liu,Ke Dai,Kewei Duan,Yong Kang 전력전자학회 2013 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.13 No.6

This paper proposes and designs a new output filter called an LCFL filter for application to three phase three wire shunt active power filters (SAPF). This LCFL filter is derived from a traditional LCL filter by replacing its capacitor with a C-type filter, and then constructing an L-C-type Filter-L (LCFL) topology. The LCFL filter can provide better switching ripple attenuation capability than traditional passive damped LCL filters. The LC branch series resonant frequency of the LCFL filter is set at the switching frequency, which can bypass most of the switching harmonic current generated by a SAPF converter. As a result, the power losses in the damping resistor of the LCFL filter can be reduced when compared to traditional passive damped LCL filters. The principle and parameter design of the LCFL filter are presented in this paper, as well as a comparison to traditional passive damped LCL filters. Simulation and experimental results are presented to validate the theoretical analyses and effectiveness of the LCFL filter.

      • Unsteady galloping of sharp-edged bluff bodies: experimental observations on the effect of the wind angle of attack

        Cong Chen,Bingyu Dai,Niccolo Wieczorek,Julian Unglaub,Klaus Thiele 한국풍공학회 2022 Wind and Structures, An International Journal (WAS Vol.35 No.4

Light-weight or low-damped structures may encounter the unsteady galloping instability that occurs at low reduced wind speeds, where the classical quasi-steady assumption is invalid. Although this unsteady phenomenon has been widely studied for rectangular cross sections with one side perpendicular to the incidence flow, the effect of the mean wind angle of attack has not been paid enough attention yet. With four sectional models of different side ratios and geometric shapes, the presented research focuses on the effect of the wind angle of attack on unsteady galloping instability. In static tests, comparatively strong vortex shedding force was noticed in the middle of the range of flow incidence where the lift coefficient shows a negative slope. In aeroelastic tests with a low Scruton number, the typical unsteady galloping, which is due to an interaction with vortex-induced vibration and results in unrestricted oscillation initiating at the Kármán vortex resonance wind speed, was observed for the wind angles of attack that characterize relatively strong vortex shedding force. In contrast, for the wind angles of attack with relatively weak shedding force, an “atypical” unsteady galloping was found to occur at a reduced wind speed clearly higher than the Kármán-vortex resonance one. These observations are valid for all four wind tunnel models. One of the wind tunnel models (with a bridge deck cross section) was also tested in a turbulent flow with an intensity about 9%, showing only the atypical unsteady galloping. However, the wind angle of attack with the comparatively strong vortex shedding force remains the most unfavorable one with respect to the instability threshold in low Scruton number conditions.

Characterization and function of a short peptidoglycan recognition protein from the Chinese oak silkworm, Antheraea pernyi

        Li-Shang Dai,Cen Qian, LeiWang,Guo-Qing Wei,Qiu-Ning Liu,Yu Sun,Cong-Fen Zhang,Jun Li,Dong-Ran Liu,Bao-Jian Zhu,Chao-Liang Liu 한국응용곤충학회 2015 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.18 No.4

Peptidoglycan recognition proteins (PGRPs) are conserved proteins in animals from insects to mammals and play an important role in immune response by recognizing peptidoglycan on microbial surfaces. In this study, a PGRP gene from Antheraea pernyi, named Ap-PGRP-A, was isolated and characterized. Sequence analysis revealed that the full-length cDNA of Ap-PGRP-A was 961 bp, containing a 40 bp 5′-untranslated sequence, a 339 bp 3′-untranslated region and an open reading frame of 582 bp. This gene encoded a putative protein of 193 amino acid residues. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that Ap-PGRP-A had the closest protein sequence similarity to Antheraea mylitta PGRP. The recombinant protein was successfully expressed in Escherichia coli cells and a rabbit anti-Ap-PGRP-A antibody was also prepared. Real-time quantitative reverse transcription-PCR analysis showed that Ap-PGRP-A was extensively expressed in the fat body, midgut, hemocyte, malpighian tubule and epidermis of A. pernyi, especially in the fat body and midgut. The expression levels of Ap-PGRP-A were significantly up-regulated by three types of microorganisms, and Ap-PGRP-A expression was more sensitive in response to the Gram-negative bacterium E. coli than the Gram-positive bacterium Bacillus subtilis or the fungus Beauveria bassiana. These data indicate that Ap-PGRP-A may play a role in the innate immune responses of A. pernyi.

      • Long-chain alcohols derived from the microalga Monoraphidium

        Yang, Xuewei,Dai, Xin,Zhang, Rui,Shao, Cong,Geng, Shu,Chen, Guangyi,Liu, Xianhua,Wang, Guangyi Techno-Press 2013 Advances in energy research Vol.1 No.2

This study was to investigate the composition and characteristics of long-chained alcohols extracted from the algal strain Monoraphidium 3s35. The production of biomass was optimized using different cultivation methods. Under the aerated growth condition, this strain yielded up to 37.26% extracts of dry weight and $576mgL^{-1}$ biomass. The major compounds of the extracts are mainly long-chained alcohols (89.24%), with carbon chain length ranging from 12 to 20. Interestingly, or the long-chained alcohols, 3-(2-Methoxyethyl)-1-nonanol, 3,7,11,15-Tetramethyl-2-hexadecen-1-ol and oleyl alcohol accounted for 53.68%, 23.45%, and 12.11%, respectively. Because of their amphipathic nature, these long-chained alcohols have been widely used in bioenergy production and cosmetics industry. Furthermore, Monoraphidium 3s35 produced 9.73% of $C_{17}$ and $C_{20}$ alkanes, which can be used as an important supplement for the petrodiesel-like fuel.
