        Studies on Enhanced Oxidation of Estrone and Its Voltammetric Determination at Carbon Paste Electrode in the Presence of Cetyltrimethylammonium Bromide

        The electrochemical behaviors of estrone in the presence of various surfactants were examined with great details. It is found that a cationic surfactant, cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB), obviously facilitates the electro-oxidation of estrone at carbon paste electrode (CPE) from the significant peak current enhancement and the negative shift of peak potential. Additionally, chronocoulometry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) were also used for further investigation of the electrode process of estrone, indicating that low concentration of CTAB exhibits excellent enhancement effects on the electrochemical oxidation of estrone, greatly enhances the diffusion coefficient and the electron transfer rate. Based on this, an electrochemical method was proposed for the determination of estrone. The oxidation peak current is proportional to the concentration of estrone in the ranges over 9.010-8-8.010-6 mol/L, and a low detection limit of 4.010-8 mol/L was obtained for 180s accumulation at open circuit (S/N=3). Finally, this proposed method was demonstrated using estrone tablets with good satisfaction.

        Morphological characteristics and gene mapping of a dense panicle (dp2) mutant in rice (Oryza sativa L.)

        A dense panicle mutant (dp2) derived from theOryza sativa ssp. japonica cultivar Nipponbare through ethylmethane sulfonate mutagenesis was used in present study. Compared to the wild type, the panicle of dp2 mutantexhibited more branches and denser grains. Further more, thenumber of spikelets per panicle, number of primary branchesand secondary branches of dp2 mutant were significantlyincreased while the panicle length, and 1,000-grain weightwere significantly decreased. The results from the geneticanalysis indicated that the dense panicle phenotype wascontrolled by a single dominance nuclear gene. Polymorphicanalysis of SSR and InDel markers demonstrated that theDP2 gene was located at the long arm of chromosome 2,which was further mapped between SSR markers RM341and RM13356 in a physical region of 398 kb. Within thisregion, the RCN2 (LOC_Os02g32950) gene which wasannotated relating to the development of rice panicle wasfound. Compared to the wild type, the sequence of RCN2gene in the dp2 mutant showed that two SNPs replacementhad taken place in the promoter region (G–A) and the intronregion (A–T), respectively. The dp2 mutant could be a novelmutant of RCN2 gene and this novel mutant might be usefulfor further studies on this gene.

        Study on the Gas-liquid Flow Characteristics in the Reversing Bucket of Water Jet Propulsion

        To investigate the gas-liquid two-phase flow characteristics in the reversing bucket of water jet propulsion, the numerical simulations based on the Euler-Euler inhomogeneous model was conducted to the internal flow field of the reversing bucket under 1%~12% different inlet gas volume fractions (α). Based on that, the gas distribution, gas-liquid velocity streamlines and thrust changing were obtained to discuss the gas-liquid flow characteristics and the influence on the thrust of the reversing bucket. The calculation results show that the gas mainly distributes in the inner part of the reversing bucket flow passage under different inlet gas volume fractions. On the condition that the inlet gas volume fraction is more than 2%, the gas accumulation has occurred in the inlet section of the flow passage. With the increasing of inlet gas volume fraction, average velocity and pressure increase gradually at each cross-section of reversing bucket flow passage, and at the higher gas concentration in each cross-section, where the vortex will exist, indicating that the gas concentration has a great relationship with the vortex aggregation in the reversing bucket flow passage. When the inlet gas volume fraction is 7%, the thrust reaches the maximum. It shows that the appropriate gas can effectively improve the thrust efficiency of the reversing bucket.
