      • Vascular Protective Role of Samul-Tang in HUVECs: Involvement of Nrf2/HO-1 and NO

        <P>Samul-Tang (Si-Wu-Tang, SMT), composed of four medicinal herbs, is a well-known herbal formula treating hematological disorder or gynecologic disease. However, vascular protective effects of SMT and its molecular mechanisms on the vascular endothelium, known as the central spot of vascular inflammatory process, are not reported. The aim of this study was to investigate vascular protective effects of SMT water extract in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). Water extract of SMT was prepared and identified by HPLC-PDA analysis. Expression of cell adhesion molecules (CAMs) and heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) and translocation of nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-<I>κ</I>B) and nuclear factor-erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) were determined by western blot. Nuclear localization of NF-<I>κ</I>B and Nrf2 was visualized by immunofluorescence and DNA binding activity of NF-<I>κ</I>B was measured. ROS production, HL-60 monocyte adhesion, and intracellular nitric oxide (NO) were also measured using a fluorescent indicator. SMT suppressed NF-<I>κ</I>B translocation and activation as well as expression of CAMs, monocyte adhesion, and ROS production induced by TNF-<I>α</I> in HUVECs. SMT treated HUVECs showed upregulation of HO-1 and NO which are responsible for vascular protective action. Our study suggests that SMT, a traditionally used herbal formula, protects the vascular endothelium from inflammation and might be used as a promising vascular protective drug.</P>

        Hypophosphatasia 환아의 치료 증례

        1. Hypophosphatasia 는 골조직 및 치아조직의 비정상적인 석회화를 나타내는 대사장애로, 특징적구강내 소견 인 우치의 조기탈락 양상으로 치과에서 조기진단이 가능하다. 2. 본 증례에서 상악궁 확장을 동반한 의치 제작으로 심미적, 기능적으로 양호한 결과를 얻었으며, 영구치열기 까지 장기적 관찰 및 치료가 필요할 것으로 사료된다. hypophosphatasia is a rare metabolic disorder which manifests characteristics such as abnormal mineralization of bone and dental tissues, diminished serum and tissue alkline phosphatase, and increased urinary secretion of PEA. It ingerited as an autosomal recessive or dominant trait and occurs in all races. In general, hypophosphatasia can be classified in 4 subtypes which are the perinatal, infantile, childhood, adult type depending upon the age at presentation and severity. In young children with Hypophosphatasia the long bones show irregular defects, and the skull showes poor calcification. In older children with premature closure of the skull sutures there may ve multiple lucent area called gyral or convolutional markings, described as resimbling beaten copper, presumably resulting from increased intracranial pressure,Examination of the jaws reveals a generalized lucency of the maxilla and mandible, the cortical bone and lamina dura are thin, and the alveolar bone may be deficient. Clinical features of Hypophosphatasia imclude premature loss of deciduous teeth, especially incisors, hypoplasia of aplasia of root cementum, enamel hypoplasia, irregular calcification of dentin, large pulp chamber, and resorption of marginal alveolar bone and roots. Our report involves a patient with a chief complaint of early loss of both Mx. and Mn. deciduous ncisors. after conducting a through clinical and radiographic examination this patient was referred to pediatrics under the suspicion of hypophosphatasia, the diagnosis proved to be correct and successful results were accomplished through a denture made to improve esthetics and function.

        치주적 손상을 유발하는 latex-elastic ring의 부적절한 사용에 대한 증례보고

        This paper presents improper use of latex-elastic ring in movement of teeth and its consequence. Simple orthodontic movement of teeth including closure of diastema may be achieved by the use of simple method with fixed or removable appliance associated with latex-elactic ring. But, if it is used alone, it acts as a local irritant and then produces localized periodontitis. In case of localized periodontitis resulting from latex-elastic ring, diagnosis is difficult because the patient is usually unaward of the presence of the rings on the roots of the involved teeth and because the ring is not probed and is radiolucent and therefore not discernible radiographically and clinically. Occasionally, surgery is requred for the detection. This case emphasizes the necessity that the use of latex-elastic ring in closing diastema should be accompanied with removable or fixed appliance as well as close professional supervision. Its use without adequate provision for stabilization or retention on the crowns of teeth results in destruction of periodontal support and the teeth may be lost.

      • 소결조건이 소결 청동계 마찰재의 마찰특성에 미치는 영향

        The effect of sintering conditions(temperature and time) on the frictional properties of sintered bronze-base were investigated. It was observed that with increasing sintering temperature up to 840℃ and sintering time up to 60 min. the hardness, bending strength and coefficient of friction increased continuously, but the wear rate decreased. At sintering temperature of 860℃, however, their mechanical and frictional properties decreased rapidly due to the sweating phenomenon of tin. In our experiments, the optimal sintering condition is that sintering temperature is about 840℃ and sintering time is about 60 min.. Its average grain size is about 14.2㎛.

        역위매복된 상악 중절치의 외과적 노출과 교정력을 이용한 증례보고

        Inverted maxillary incisor is a state in which the maxillary incisor rotates to the upward position. The present report provides two examples of correction of inverted maxillary incisors with surgical intervention & orthodontic appliance. Through surgical exposure & direct bonding of lingual button, the central incisor were brought into proper eruption path with elastic traction. The case 1 & 2 were both treated successfully. The results showed the good position of treated teeth and satisfactory esthetics and adequate width of keratinized gingiva were achieved. Careful differential diagnosis procedure is needed in order to avoid dissatisfactory rusults and the treatment approaches taken in this case report provided an esthetic and functional results.

        In this paper, a direct torque control(DTC) method of an induction motor is proposed which enables constant switching frequency. The switching strategy of a conventional direct torque control scheme which is based on hysteresis comparator results in a variable switching frequency which depends on the speed, flux, stator voltage and hysteresis band of the comparator. This paper proposes a new switching strategy which determine the effective switching time on each switching period by comparing the ascending and descending torque slopes. The simulation results are presented to verify this proposed scheme.

      • 殘留應力을 考慮한 鎔接材의 疲勞龜裂 進展擧動에 關한 硏究

        The effect of welding residual stress on the initiation and propagation of fatigue crack is investigated so as to study the fatigue behavior in welding residual stress field. Especially, the relation between welding residual stress and fatigue crack opening behavior is investigated and the redistribution of residual stress as a fatigue crack propagates is examined. Following results are obtained. 1) In case of the load range is constant, as the stress ratio is changing to 0.1, 0.33, 0.5 the propagation life is constant but the growth life decreases. And than, when maximum load or minimum load is constant, as the stress ratio increases the growth life and propagation life increase. 2) The fatigue crack propagations rate da/dN appears to accelerate when the stress intensity factor range ΔK is less than 15MPa-m^1/2. 3) The residual stress that is appeared by welding decreases after cutting. 4) Fatigue crack propagation ratio is affected by tensional and compressible residual stress at the initial time, but it's similar to the original in the more than 20mm of crack length.

        洛東江 感潮區間의 潮汐傳播 現象을 1次元 動水力學的 數値 모델을 利用하여 調査하였다. 첫 段階로서 樹立된 潮汐모델은 平均大, 中, 小潮時의 感潮區間의 潮汐傳播를 算定하는데 利用되었으며 또한 洪水時의 水位 算定을 爲하여 利用되었다. 이 硏究의 目的은 洛東江河口의 締切堰工事가 始作되기 前의 潮汐力學을 糾明하는데 있다. The progression of the tide in the lower reaches of the Nakdong River was investigated by the use of a simplified one-dimensional hydrodynamic numerical model. As a first step the developed tidal model was used to compute tidal distribution for average spring, mean and neap conditions and further utilised to investigate the waterlevel response by combined tide and flood discharge effects. The objective of this inital study is to investigate the tidal dynamics of the lower reaches of the Nakdong River under the condition of before-cross-channel barrage condition.

        A one-dimensional hydordynamic model of the Han River capable of simulating flood propagation is established. The model is designed to provide maximum flexibility in the adaption of channel geometry, the specification of conveyance properties and treatment of boundary conditions. Particulary downstream tidal boundary condition is designed to prescribe the real-time tidal prediction based on 14 tidal constants analyzed from observation of 5 months in 1978. Applications are presented to demonstrate the computational feature and capabilities of the model in the flood simulation of 1925, 1972 and 1984 floods.
