The early detection of the bearing defects in rotating machinery is very important since the critical failure of bearing causes a machinery shutdown. However it is not easy to detect the vibration signal caused by the initial defects of bearing because of the high level of random noise. A signal processing technique, called the adaptive line enhancer(ALE) as one of adaptive filter, is used in this study. This technique is to eliminate random noise with little a prior knowledge of the noise and signal characteristics. Also we propose the optimal methods for selecting the three main ALE parameters such as correlation length, filter order and adaptation constant. Vibration signals for three abnormal bearings, including inner and outer raceways and ball defects, were acquired by Anderon(angular derivative of radius on) meter. The experimental results showed that ALE is very useful for detecting the bearing defective signals masked by random noise.

Extensions of Simple Features Geometry for Network Model

The trends of GIS(Geographic Information System) technology are headed to the Open GIS component system ensuring the interoperability and reusability. The Simple Features Geometry model is announced by OGC(Open G1S Consortium) to increasing the full interoperability of various spatial data and geo-processing resources. The Simple Features Geometry model which developed by OGC is satisfied to two-dimensional and linear interpolation between vertices. In this paper, we present extended geometry model coined to Geometry+. Geometry+ model is extending the Simple Features Geometry model of OGC to incorporating the to additional information for network data model. The proposed network data model is implementing to the Network Analysis Component and could be added to the Open GIS Component Software System.
DEVELOPMENT OF OPEN GIS COMPONENT SOFTWARE

Technology of GIS evolved as a means of assembling and analyzing diverse spatial data. Many systems have been developed, and almost of systems are proprietary. There is a lots of lack of interoperability and reusability between them. This paper describes the development of Open GIS component software. The developing system have an end in view of GIS tool software which is interoperable and reusable. To increase the interoperability and reusability, the system is based on the OGC(Open GIS Consortium)'s Open GIS Simple Features Specification for OLE/COM. The OGC's specification is announced to increasing the full interoperability of various geospatial data and geoprocessing resources. With the Open specification, component based software ensures the reusability. We implement three kinds of component: Geometry component, Spatial Reference System Component, and MapBase Component. The first two components are compatible to the OGC's specification and the third one is designed to GIS tool software for variant GIS applications. The Open GIS component software system is developed on object-oriented computing environment, ATL/COM and Visual C++. As we made application programs using Visual Basic, the advantages of component based Open G1S software was proved.
Web Service Technology under the Open GIS Component System

Internet is became a standard mechanism to search and access information under the world independent to location and computing environment. And the information technology draws a conclusion to Internet. Following the trend of the times, the technology of web service for geospatial information is studying actively for many areas and starting initial level of services to public user through Internet such as map viewer. This paper describes the web map service technology under the open GIS component architecture based on the related topics of OGC. The Open GIS component system conforms to the OGC, and the OGC is an attempt to create open standards for geospatial data and systems that further the cause of interoperability, which is the major feature for Internet services. For a map service under the Open GIS component, we implement the WMS1(Web Map Server Version 1.0) of OGC derived from WMT1, sufficient to thin, medium and thick clients. The converters between GML, SVG and simple feature geometry are developed far display of geospatial information, and the client viewer under Internet Explorer 5.0 is prepared for GUI.
Cytotoxicity of Trichothecenes to Human Solid Tumor Cells in Vitro

The trichothecenes are sesquiterpenoid mycotoxins characterized by the 12,13-epoxytrichothec-9-ene ring system. We have tested cytotoxicity of several naturally-occurring or synthesized trichothecenes against human solid tumor cell lines. Among them, trichothecin(I) and $4-\beta$-Acetoxy-12,13-epoxytrichothec-9-ene (trichodermin, II) exhibited highly cytotoxic activities. 4-.betha.-Hydroxy-12,13-epoxytrichothec-9-ene (trichodermol, III) and $4-\beta$-Methoxy-12,13-epoxytrichothec-9-ene (IV) had mild cytotoxicities. But 12,13-Epoxytrichothec-9-ene-4-one (V) and $4-\beta$-Hydroxy-12,13-epoxytrichothec-9-ene(VI) had no cytotoxicities up to 10 $\mug/ml$. And in the tested cell lines, HCT15 colon cancer cell line was the most sensitive to all tested trichothecenes.

Phenolic compounds are prevalent as toxins or environmental pollutants, but they are also widely used as drugs for various purpose including anticancer agent. A novel biphenolic compound, bis(2-hydroxy-3-tert-butyl-5-methylphenyl)methane (GERI-BPO02-A) was isolated from the fermentation broth of Aspergillus fumigatus F93 previously, and it has revealed cytotoxicity against human solid tumor cells. Its effective doses that cause 50% inhibition of cell growth in vitro against non-small cell lung cancer cell A549, ovarian cancer cell SK-OV-3, skin cancer cell SK-MEL-2 and central nerve system cancer cell XF498 were 8.24, 10.60, 8.83, $9.85\mug/ml$ respectively. GERI-BPO02-A has also revealed cytotoxicity against P-glycoproteinexpressed human colon cancer cell HCT15 and its multidrug-resistant subline HCT15/CL02, and its cytotoxicity was not affected by P-glycoprotein. We have also tested cytotoxicities of structurally related compounds of GERI-BPO02-A such as diphenylmethane, 1,1-bis(3,4dimethylphenyl)ethane, 2,2-diphenylpropane, 2-benzylpyridine, 3-benzylpyridine, $4,4^I-di-tert-butylphenyl$, bibenzyl, $2,2^I-dimethylbibenzyl$, cis-stilbene, trans-stilbene, 3-tert-butyl-4-hydroxy-5-methylphenyisulfide, sulfadiazine and sulfisomidine for studying of structure and activity relationship, and from these data we could suppose that hydroxyl group of GERI-BPO02A conducted important role in its cytotoxicity.
<i>Acanthamoeba</i>: Keratopathogenicity of isolates from domestic tap water in Korea

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>In a previous study, we reported on the contamination rate of free living amoeba, including <I>Acanthamoeba,</I> isolated from contact lens storage cases (CLSC) and domestic tap water in Korea. In an effort to evaluate the potential kerato-pathogenicity of 5 isolates from CLSC and 17 isolates from domestic tap water, we have conducted an investigation into the morphological features, mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) phenotypes, 18S rDNA sequences, and drug sensitivities of these isolates, and have compared the results with those of 20 amoebic keratitis (AK) isolates from Korea, as well as 14 reference strains. Cysts from 22 isolates obtained from CLSC and domestic tap water showed typical characteristics of morphological group 2. A total of three and five mtDNA RFLP patterns generated by EcoRI were found in 5 of the isolates from CLSC and 17 of the isolates from domestic tap water, respectively. The mtDNA RFLP patterns of four of the five isolates from the CLSC were found to be identical to those of the isolates from domestic tap water of students who had contaminated CLSC. The majority had mtDNA RFLP patterns identical to those of AK isolates in Korea. The results of 18S rDNA sequencing analysis were also shown to coincide with the results of mtDNA RFLP analysis. KA/WP12 was determined to be profoundly sensitive to chlorhexidine (MCC; 6.25μg/ml), and KAWP2 was the most sensitive strain to polyhexamethylene biguanide (PHMB) (MCC; 4.69μg/ml). Some difference in the cytopathic effects of isolates against human corneal epithelial cells was observed according to their mtDNA genotypes. In conclusion, domestic tap water may constitute a source of <I>Acanthamoeba</I> contamination of CLSC, and most isolates from CLSC and domestic tap water appear to be potentially keratopathogenic.</P>
