Improving Varying-Pseudonym-Based RFID Authentication Protocols to Resist Denial-of-Service Attacks
Hung-Yu Chien,Tzong-Chen Wu 한국정보보호학회 2008 정보보호학회논문지 Vol.18 No.b6
Applying Varying Pseudonym (VP) to design of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) authentication protocol outperforms the other existing approaches in several respects. However, this approach is prone to the well-known denial-of-service (DOS) attack. In this paper, we examine the de-synchronization problems of VP-based RFID authentication protocols, and propose effective solutions to eliminate such weaknesses. We shall show that the proposed solutions indeed improve the security for these protocols, and moreover, these solutions require O(1) computational cost for identifying a tag and O(1) key space on the tag. These excellent performances make them very attractive to many RFID applications.
Seasonal yeast compositions in Forcipomyia taiwana (Diptera: Ceratopogonidae)
Hung-Wei Chen,Jui-Yu Chou,Chung-Chi Lin,Yu-Der Wen,Wei-Lung Wang 한국응용곤충학회 2016 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.19 No.2
Forcipomyia taiwana, a biting midge, is one of the most annoying blood-sucking pests in Taiwan. The larvae of Forcipomyia species feed primarily on algae, and the adults feed on nectar for nutrition. After mating with male adults, females bite humans and digest blood for the formation and development of their eggs. The bites often cause human itching, swelling, skin lesion and even fatal shock. Harassment from this biting pest has become a serious problem and has influenced the quality of outdoor recreational activities. Thus, it is necessary to understand the ecology of F. taiwana to develop an effective control strategy. This study showed the seasonal variation of yeast compositions in the interior of F. taiwana. Furthermore, we found that Aureobasidium spp. appeared the most during collection times and these yeasts are able to decompose the cellulose, a major component in the cell wall of algae and Oomycete fungi. These fungi infect a broad range of host and have adverse effect on fitness of the biting midges. Thus, Aureobasidium spp. play a crucial role in the defense system of F. taiwana against pathogens. The study provides useful information that could be used in the development of biocontrol strategy in the future.
Efficiency of Hurdle Technology Applied to Raw Cured Meat (Si-Raw)Processing
Chen, Ming-Tsao,Lin, Young-Sun,Tsai, Hung-Tsung,Kuo, Hsiu-Lan Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2002 Animal Bioscience Vol.15 No.11
Si-Raw is a raw cured meat (raw, cured meat fermented with steamed rice) produced by the aboriginal people of Taiwan. In order to prevent food poisoning or intoxication from botulism, new methods of monitoring the production base on hurdle technology were investigated. New methods investigated incorporated citric acid, sodium hypophosphite, Monascus anka mash, plum paste or lactic acid bacteria inoculum added separately to meat with steamed rice and salt to lower the Aw (water activity) and pH values of the products to control the microbial growth. Results showed that anaerobic bacterial counts, lactic acid bacterial counts and aerobic bacterial counts for the products of all treatments were less than $10^6$, $10^5$ and $10^2cfu/g$, respectively. Sodium chloride content of all products was above 5.46%, water activity was below 0.939 and pH value was below 4.27. IMP was lower and ATP and hypoxanthine were higher. ATP concentrations were higher in the samples which contained the anka mash. Result of sensory panel test indicated that most people preferred the products with added sodium hypophosphite. Except for the fact that the content of tryptamine in the sample with Monascus anka mash was higher, the amine concentrations for all treatments were lower than those of other fermented meat products. The amino acid nitrogen content was higher in the product made from raw meat treated with citric acid, but lower in the other products. Neither Clostridium botulinum nor Trichinella spiralis were detected in any of the treatments. The result may indicate that hurdle technology is effective for hygiene and safe producing Si-Raw.

<P>The Higgs-portal lepton flavor violation is studied in a vector-like lepton model. To avoid the constraints from rare Z.-> l(j)(+/-)l(j)(-/+) decays, we introduce two triplet vectorlike leptons, (1, 3)(-1) and (1, 3)(0). The resultant branching ratio for h. -> mu tau can be up to 10(-4) when the constraints from the invisible Z decays are applied. As a result, the signal strength for the tau tau channel has a 12 % deviation from the standard model prediction, while the muon g - 2 is two orders of magnitude smaller than the data, and BR(tau -> mu gamma) is of the order of 10(-12). A predicted doubly charged lepton in pp collisions at root s = 13 TeV is analyzed, and it is found that the interesting production channels are pp -> (Psi(-)(1) (-)Psi(++)(1),Psi 1(+/-+/-)Psi(-/+)(1)). Both single and pair production cross sections of Psi(++)(1) are comparable, and can be a few hundred fb. The main decay channels for the doubly charged lepton are Psi(+/-+/-) -> l(+/-) W-+/-, and for the heavy singly charged lepton they are Psi(+/-)(1) -> nu W-+/-, l(+/-)Z. The numerical analysis is carried out with regard to 13 TeV LHC with 100 fb(-1) luminosity.</P>
A Review of Electrically Tunable Focusing Liquid Crystal Lenses
Hung-Chun Lin,Ming-Syuan Chen,Yi-Hsin Lin 한국전기전자재료학회 2011 Transactions on Electrical and Electronic Material Vol.12 No.6
Electrically tunable focusing liquid crystal (LC) lenses are reviewed in this paper. The distribution of the orientations of LC directors which is controlled by electric fields results in a distribution of refractive indices of LC directors. The incident light can be modulated by the electrically tunable lens-like phase difference of the LC lens. We introduce the basic operating principles of LC lenses and discuss the structures of LC lenses. The major challenges of LC lenses are also discussed. We believe this paper provides a guideline for basic understanding of LC lenses.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common arrhythmia and is associated with increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. The anti-arrhythmic effect of statins on AF prevention appears to be highly significant in most clinical studies. However, some discrepancies do existamong different clinical studies. Different clinical settings and types of stains used may explain these differences between trials. The CHADS 2and CHA 2 DS 2 VASc scoring systems have been used for stroke risk stratification in AF patients. The recent study suggested that thesescores can also be used to guide statin therapy for AF prevention. Patients with higher scores had a higher risk of developing AF and gained morebenefits from statins therapy than those with lower scores. This review article focused on the ability of these scores to predict AF preventionby statins.

This paper applies an intelligent control scheme to investigate a diaphragm-type pneumatic vibrationisolation (PVI) problem. Adaptive wavelet neural network (AWNN) control is employed to control the PVI systemwhich has inherited nonlinear and time-varying system characteristics. Since AWNN has excellent approximationcapability originating from wavelet decomposition property and online learning ability stemming from neural networks, the method is especially suitable for the PVI control applications. In this paper, the adaptive learning ratesare derived based on the Lyapunov stability theorem. Therefore, the stability of the closed-loop system can beassured. To validate the proposed method, a composite control scheme using pressure and velocity measurementsas feedback signals is implemented. During experimental investigations, sinusoidal excitation with the excitationfrequency close to the resonance and random-like signal are input on a floor base to simulate ground vibrations. Performances obtained from the proposed control scheme are compared with those obtained from passive isolationand PID scheme to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed intelligent control.
Phenomenology of an SU(2)1×SU(2)2×U(1)Y model at the LHC
Chen, Chuan-Hung,Nomura, Takaaki American Physical Society 2017 Physical Review D Vol.95 No.1
<P>We investigate the implications of a minimal SU(2) gauge symmetry extension of the standard model at the LHC. To achieve the spontaneous symmetry breaking, a heavy Higgs doublet of the SU(2) is introduced. To obtain an anomaly- free model and the decays of new charged gauge bosons, we include a vectorlike quark doublet. We also employ a real scalar boson to dictate the heavy Higgs production via the gluon-gluon fusion processes. We find that the new gauge coupling and the masses of new gauge bosons can be strictly bounded by the electroweak rho-parameter and dilepton resonance experiments at the LHC. We find that due to the new charged gauge boson enhancement, the cross sections for a heavy scalar boson to diphoton channel measured by ATLAS and CMS can be easily satisfied when the values of Yukawa couplings are properly taken. Furthermore, by adopting event simulation, we find that the significance of pp -> (gamma gamma)(H) + jet, where the diphoton is from the heavy Higgs decay, can be over 4 sigma when the luminosity is above 60 fb(-1).</P>
Search for a light-charged Higgs in a two-Higgs-doublet type II seesaw model at the LHC
Chen, Chuan-Hung,Nomura, Takaaki North-Holland Pub. Co 2017 Physics letters. Section B Vol.767 No.-
<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>A charged Higgs in the type II two-Higgs-doublet model (THDM) has been bounded to be above a few hundred GeV by the radiative <I>B</I> decays. A Higgs triplet extension of the THDM not only provides an origin of neutrino masses and a completely new doubly-charged Higgs decay pattern, but it also achieves a light-charged Higgs with a mass of O ( 100 ) GeV through the new scalar couplings in the scalar potential. It was found that these light-charged Higgs decays depend on its mass m H ± , tan β , and mixing effect sin θ ± : at tan β = 1 , if m H ± > m W + m Z , b ¯ b W ± , W ± Z , and <I>τν</I> are the main decay modes; however, if m H ± < m W + m Z , the main decay modes are then b ¯ b W and <I>τν</I>, and at tan β = 30 , the <I>τν</I> mode dominates the other decays. When m t > m H ± + m b , we found that the ATLAS and CMS recent upper bounds on the product of BR ( t → H + b ) BR ( H + → τ + ν ) can be directly applied and will give a strict constraint on the correlation of m H ± and sin θ ± . If the upper bound of BR ( t → H + b ) BR ( H + → τ + ν ) is satisfied (escaped) for m t > ( < ) m H ± + m b , it was found that the significance of discovering the charged Higgs through H ± → W ± Z is much lower than that through H ± → b ¯ b W ± . With a luminosity of 100 fb − 1 at s = 13 TeV and including the experimental bounds, the significance of the H ± → b ¯ b W ± signal can reach around 6.2 ( 2.4 ) σ for m H ± < ( > ) m W + m Z .</P>
