        Late Pleistocene-Holocene sedimentary facies and evolution of the Jeju Strait shelf, southwest Korea

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The depositional environments of the Jeju Strait shelf since the last interglacial period are analyzed using sedimentary structures, grain size textures, sediment color, and optically-stimulated luminescence (OSL) and accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) ages of vibro-cores. The shelf deposits can be divided into 12 sedimentary facies grouped into four depositional units: 1) shelf sand, 2) estuarine sand/mud, 3) fluvial sand/mud, and 4) shelf sand/mud. Each unit is separated by a sharp and unconformable erosion boundary. Unit 1 shows massive to slightly bedded sandy shells with oyster fragments, representing a shelf environment during sea-level highstand. The OSL date of the base of the unit is 124.4 ± 10.0 ka. Unit 2 is characterized by thin periodic parallel laminated mud, suggesting tidal signatures in tidal flats. Sediments are typically moderate brownish, suggesting extreme weathering after deposition. The OSL dates of this unit range from 81.1 ± 5.3 to 74.2 ± 4.7. Unit 3 consists of lower cross-bedded sand and laminated mud with fining-upward successions. It is interpreted as the product of channel deposits in a fluvial environment during a sea-level falling. The OSL ages of Unit 3 range from 50.6 ± 2.9 to 26.1 ± 1.6 ka, belonging to the Weichselian glacial period. The uppermost unit (Unit 4) is composed of homogeneous mud and massive sand with molluscan shell fragments in the modern shelf environment during sea-level highstand. OSL and <SUP>14</SUP>C-AMS ages range from 0.32 ± 0.02 to 11.2 ± 0.1 ka. Consequently, the late Pleistocene-Holocene sedimentary facies in this area consist of marine and non-marine environments, which mainly correspond to sea-level changes.</P>

        Biotransformation of major ginsenosides in ginsenoside model culture by lactic acid bacteria

        Background: Some differences have been reported in the biotransformation of ginsenosides, probably due to the types of materials used such as ginseng, enzymes, and microorganisms. Moreover, most microorganisms used for transforming ginsenosides do not meet food-grade standards. We investigated the statistical conversion rate of major ginsenosides in ginsenosides model culture during fermentation by lactic acid bacteria (LAB) to estimate possible pathways. Methods: Ginsenosides standard mix was used as a model culture to facilitate clear identification of the metabolic changes. Changes in eight ginsenosides (Rb1, Rb2, Rc, Rd, Re, Rf, Rg1, and Rg2) during fermentation with six strains of LAB were investigated. Results: In most cases, the residual ginsenoside level decreased by 5.9-36.8% compared with the initial ginsenoside level. Ginsenosides Rb1, Rb2, Rc, and Re continuously decreased during fermentation. By contrast, Rd was maintained or slightly increased after 1 d of fermentation. Rg1 and Rg2 reached their lowest values after 1-2 d of fermentation, and then began to increase gradually. The conversion of Rd, Rg1, and Rg2 into smaller deglycosylated forms was more rapid than that of Rd from Rb1, Rb2, and Rc, as well as that of Rg1 and Rg2 from Re during the first 2 d of fermentation with LAB. Conclusion: Ginsenosides Rb1, Rb2, Rc, and Re continuously decreased, whereas ginsenosides Rd, Rg1, and Rg2 increased after 1-2 d of fermentation. This study may provide new insights into the metabolism of ginsenosides and can clarify the metabolic changes in ginsenosides biotransformed by LAB.

        The adverse criticism to using Chinese Character has been occurred continually in every day life of language today in Korea although half a century has past already since the private use of Korean alphabet has been put in operation. There is great propriety in the private use of Korean alphabet theoretically. There are two coordinate aspects ; we should not abolish the education of Chinese alphabet and Chinese Character in the nation culture education aspect because our tradition inheritance is written with Chinese Character nearly in everyday life and we should abolish the education in that not only it is difficult for us to learn because it has too many letters and complex but also it has a obstructing factor to the private use of Korean alphabet. In this aspect, I think that to look around Japanese education policy to Chinese Character adapting and using it like us in profitable.

      • IEEE 802.11g 수신기 시스템 최소성능 분석 및 설계 규격에 관한 연구

        본 논문에서는 IEEE 802.11g 표준안으로부터 WLAN 수신기 설계를 위한 최소 성능 요구 조건들을 제시하고, 이 요구 조건들로부터 수신기 설계 시 요구되는 파라미터들을 산출하였다. 파라미터 산출시, 일반적으로 고려되지 않는 in-band noise를 포함하여 파라미터 분석을 하였으며, 각 파라미터들의 변화로 인한 다른 파라미터와의 관계를 분석하였다. 또한, 직접 변환 구조를 갖는 IEEE 802.11g 수신기 시스템의 설계 규격을 결정하는 방법을 제시하였다. This paper suggests the parameters of the required conditions of minimum performance for a WLAN receiver system design from the specifications of IEEE 802.11g. It has calculated the requirement conditions of minimum performance in the design process due to these parameters. At calculation of parameter, we analyzed including in-band noise. As variation of each parameter, we analyzed for relation to other parameters. And also, this paper suggests design specification for IEEE 802.11g receiver system of direct conversion.

        單語의 意味基準을 前提로한 判斷에는 때, 場所, 方向, 樣態, 程度, 數量등이 거론되고 또한 基準을 問題로한 意識에는 事態의 成立에 어떤 制限條件이 붙어 그條件에 따라 비로소 事態가 所期의 狀況으로서成立하는 判斷이 서게 된다. 따라서 그 基準에 기초한 表現이 展開되고 理解도 支障없이 행해진다. 基準으로는 話者가 自己의 意識에 따라 判斷하는 것과 文中의 基準에 따르는 것으로 크게 두가지가 있다. 즉, 意味의 基準에는 主觀的 判斷과 客觀的 判斷이 있고 또한 基準을 설정하는 狀況으로는 時点과 地点의 位置 설정과 무엇을 基準으로한, 때와 場所인가라는 点的基準과 어떤 範圍의 領域을 갖는가라는범주 基準이 있다. 本考에서는 이들 日本語 單語의 意味와 그 基準과의 관계에 대하여 判斷基準이 되는 視点과 기타 基準등을 먼저 어떤 單語에 어떤 問題가 적용되는가를 判斷하고 아울러 話者側의 視点이 어떤 意味構成에서 이루어지고 있는가를 視点을 中心으로 分析하여보았다. 그 結果, 各各의 單語는 各各 視点의 制限基準과 그 外의 時, 場所, 方向, 樣態, 程度, 數量등의 制限基準등에 의하여 意味를 表現하고 있음을 具體的으로 알 수 있게 되었다.

      • Lyapunov 차원을 이용한 화자식별 파라미터 추정

        This paper has apparaised ability of speaker recognition and speech recognition using correlation dimension and Lyapunov dimension. In this method, speech was regarded the cahos that the random signal is appeared in determinisitic raising system. We deduced exact correlation dimension and Lyapunov dimension with searching important orbit from AR model power spectrum when reconstruct strange attractor using Taken's embedding theory. We considered a usefulness of speech recognition and speaker recognition using correlation dimension and Lyapunov dimension that characterized reconstruction attractor. As a result of consideration, which were of use more the speaker recognition than speech recognition, and in case of speaker recognition using Lyapunov dimension were gain much recognition rate more than speaker recognitions using correlation dimension.
