      • 여기신호 생성 알고리즘의 VHDL 구현

        In this paper, we have designed the excitation signal generation algorithm of MPEG-4 audio CELP(Code Excitation Linear Prediction) using VHDL(Very High Integrated Circuit Hardware Description Language). It is consist of a add and multiplication such as general DSP(Discrete Signal Processor). We have optimized to reduce required computation cost. Especially, we have used characterization of information which has redundancy to minimize memory size and access time. In addition, we have designed to minimize error using dynamic precision operation for part of distortion with fixed point bit operation, when the dynamic range is over in result. It is a basic studying for MPEG-4 audio CELP decoder, and will be using ASIC design of the MPEG-4 Audio CELP decoder. We have compared VM(Verification Model) source based on a real speech signal consist of the C language with the VHDL code to confirm accuracy of the VHDL code. In result, we have found that both of them are almost similar.

        Extraction of Critical Low-Level Image Features for Effective Emotion Analysis

        Sentiment analysis has received considerable critical attention in machine learning, artificial intelligence, human-computer interface, etc. In these fields, many studies have analyzed emotions using images, audio, and bio-signals as features. Among them, those that utilize image features are the most typical for emotion recognition. There are two types of image features: high-level and low-level. Low-level features are more robust than high-level in sentiment analysis. Therefore, in this paper, we investigated the critical features for effective sentiment analysis in low-level image features. For an objective performance evaluation, we utilized the International Affective Picture System dataset for training and testing. We applied the iterative Han and Cha’s feature selection/extraction algorithms and used a multilayer perceptron classification. We also carried out cross-validation by replacing features. Our evaluation items consisted of two elements: accuracy and computational time. According to our results, we were able to find the critical features in sentiment analysis and our method proved more competitive compared with existing algorithms in terms of accuracy and operation time.

        Short-term Results of the Agility Total Ankle Arthroplasty

        목적: 최근 족관절 전치환술이 관절 고정술의 대안으로 많이 연구되고 있으며 빠르게 발전하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 Agility 인공 삽입물을 이용한 족관절 전치환술의 단기 추시 결과를 알아보고자 하였다. 대상 및 방법: 2003년 5월부터 2004년 5월까지 Agility 인공 삽입물을 이용한 족관절 전치환술을 시행받은 11명 중 2년 이상 추시가 가능하였던 10명(10족)을 대상으로 하였다. 임상적으로 관절 운동 범위, 보행시의 통증(VAS 접수), AOFAS 점수를 측정하였고 환자의 만족도, 수술 권유 의사, 신발의 선택도 등을 조사하였다. 방사선적으로 삽입물의 해리, 골용해 유무, 경비 인대 부위의 골 유합 등을 조사하였다. 수술 술기는 족관절의 전방 도달법을 이용하였으며 2개의 유관 나사못을 이용하여 경피적 술기로 경비 인대 부위를 고정하였고 1예에선 금속판을 이용하였다. 결과: 남자가 2명, 여자가 8명이었으며 평균 나이는 51.8세(41-67세), 평균 추시 기간은 30.3개월(24-36개윌)이었다. 수술전 진단은 류마티스 골관절염이 3예, 만성 족관절 불안정성에 의한 경우가 3예, 족관절 주위 골절에 의한 후외상성 골관절염이 4예였다. AOFAS 점수는 수술 전 평균 38.2에서 최종 추시 평균 73.8로 향상되었고 보행시 통증은 수술전 평균 8.9에서 최종 추시 2.8로 개선되었다. 관절 운동 범위는 최종 추시에서 약 23% 감소하였으며 보행시 5예에서 지팡이를 사용하였다. 방사선적으로 삽입물의 해리나 실패를 보인 경우는 없었고 전례에서 삽입물 주위에 골용해가 관찰되었으나 1예에서만 진행되었다. 5예에서 6개월 이내에 원위 경비 인대 골유합이 관찰되었고 3예에선 지연 유합, 2예에선 불유합이 관찰되었다. 심부 비골 신경 지배 영역의 감각 소실, 외과 부위의 골절이 각각 1예에서 관찰되었으나 보존적 치료로 모두 회복되었고 1예에서 거골하 관절에 관절염이 발생되었다. 결론: Agility 인공 삽입물을 이용한 인공 관절 전치환술의 단기 추시는 비교적 만족스러운 결과를 보였으나 경비 인대 결합 부위의 불유합, 삽입물 주위의 골용해 등의 방사선적 문제를 상당수에서 볼 수 있었다. 원위 경비 인대 불유합만이 임상 결과와 연관이 있었으며 골용해, 해리 등의 연관성은 장기 추시가 필요할 것으로 사료된다. Purpose: Recently, there has been increasing interest in total ankle arthroplasty as an alternative to ankle arthrodesis. This study examined the short-term results of total ankle arthroplasty using an Agility prosthesis. Materials and Methods: This study reviewed the results of 11 patients who underwent total ankle arthroplasty using the Agility prosthesis between May, 2003 and May, 2004. With a postoperative follow-up period of 2 years, 10 patients (10 ankles) were available for review at the time of the follow-up. The clinical evaluation included the ankle range of motion, the personal type of preferred shoe, walking pain (VAS score) and the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) ankle score. In addition, the patients were asked whether they were satisfied with the outcome and if they would choose to undergo the same procedure again. The radiologic evaluation included the loosening of the prosthesis, osteolysis and syndesmosis union. The anterior surgical approach was used. The syndesmosis area was fixed using 2 cannulated screws inserted percutaneously in 9 cases and a plate in 1 case. Results: The patients consisted of two men and eight women. The average age was 51.8 years (range 41 to 67) with an average follow-up of 30.3 (range 24 to 36) months. The mean preoperative and postoperative AOFAS ankle scores were 38.2 and 73.8, respectively, demonstrating significant improvement. The mean preoperative and final follow-up walking pain was 8.9 and 2.8, respectively. The ankle range of motion was decreased slightly at the final follow-up. Five patients required a cane to walk. Radiographic analysis showed no prosthesis failure, even though osteolysis occurred around the prosthesis in all cases. Only one case showed further progression. Union in the syndesmosis area occurred within 6 months in 5 cases and delayed union was observed in 3 cases, and nonunion was observed in 2 cases. Sensory loss in the area innervated by the deep peroneal nerve and a fracture in the lateral malleolus was encountered in one case, but this recovered with conservative treatment. Subtalar joint arthritis was noted in one case. Conclusion: Agility total ankle arthroplasty results in a favorable outcome at the short-term follow-up. However, total ankle arthroplasty is associated with radiographic complications including syndesmosis nonunion and osteolysis. Only syndesmosis nonunion was associated with the clinical results. Therefore, long-term follow-up is considered to be necessary to demonstrate osteolysis and loosening with their clinical association.

        Intra-articular Lesions in Chronic Lateral Ankle Instability: Comparison of Arthroscopy with Magnetic Resonance Imaging Findings

        Background: Chronic lateral ankle instability often accompanies intra-articular lesions, and arthroscopy is often useful in diagnosis and treatment of intra-articular lesions. Methods: Preoperative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examinations and arthroscopic findings were reviewed retrospectively and compared in 65 patients who underwent surgery for chronic lateral ankle instability from January 2006 to January 2010. MR images obtained were assessed by two radiologists, and the inter- and intra-observer reliability was calculated. American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) and visual analogue scale (VAS) scores were evaluated. Results: Abnormalities of the anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL) were found in all 65 (100%) cases. In arthroscopy examinations, 33 (51%) cases had talar cartilage lesions, and 3 (5%) cases had ‘tram-track’ cartilage lesion. Additionally, 39 (60%) cases of synovitis, 9 (14%) cases of anterior impingement syndrome caused by osteophyte, 14 (22%) cases of impingement syndrome caused by fibrotic band and tissue were found. Sensitivity of MRI examination for each abnormality was: ATFL, 60%; osteochondral lesion of talus (OLT), 46%; syndesmosis injury, 21%; synovitis, 21%; anterior impingement syndrome caused by osteophyte, 22%. Paired intra-observer reliability was measured by a kappa statistic of 0.787 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.641 to 0.864) for ATFL injury, 0.818 (95% CI, 0.743 to 0.908) for OLT, 0.713 (95% CI, 0.605 to 0.821) for synovitis, and 0.739 (95% CI, 0.642 to 0.817) for impingement. Paired inter-observer reliability was measured by a kappa statistic of 0.381 (95% CI, 0.241 to 0.463) for ATFL injury, 0.613 (95% CI, 0.541 to 0.721) for OLT, 0.324 (95% CI, 0.217 to 0.441) for synovitis, and 0.394 (95% CI, 0.249 to 0.471) for impingement. Mean AOFAS score increased from 64.5 to 87.92 (p < 0.001) when there was no intra-articular lesion, from 61.07 to 89.04 (p < 0.001) in patients who had one intra-articular lesion, and from 61.12 to 87.6 (p < 0.001) in patients who had more than two intra-articular lesions. Conclusions: Although intra-articular lesion in patients with chronic lateral ankle instability is usually diagnosed with MRI, its sensitivity and inter-observer reliability are low. Therefore, arthroscopic examination is strongly recommended because it improved patients’ residual symptoms and significantly increased patient satisfaction.

      • A Study of the Relation between Arousal and Valence in the Emotional Dimension

        In this paper, we verify the relation between elements of the dimension parameters of Russell’s emotional dimension (“A Circumplex Model”) and propose a new method of emotional expression. A Circumplex Model expresses words (happy, joy, sad, etc.) as a point on the dimension. However, previous studies have shown that there have been problems such as the possibility of mixed feelings, difference of emotion and sensibility, and difference in the representation/recognition of the method according to arousal and valence. Studies claimed that it is necessary to modify the representation method. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a new method to modify Russell``s emotional dimension model. Our idea is to verify the relationship between the elements of two axes such as arousal and valence. We believe that it is possible, by using the method proposed in this paper, to solve the inherent flaws in Russell``s model and represent the emotional data more accurately.
