      • Free vibration analysis of steel liquid storage tank with functionally graded column based on modified continuum mechanics

        Cavus, Yakup Harun,Kupeli, Togay,Yayli, Mustafa Ozgur Techno-Press 2022 Coupled systems mechanics Vol.11 No.4

It's important to note that the number of studies on the lateral vibration of steel liquid storage tanks has been quite modest in the past. The aim of this research has to look at the variables that affect vibration of storage tanks and to highlight the characteristics of a construction that hasn't received much attention in the literature. The storage tank has pre-sized in the study, and aluminum and steel have chosen as components. The specified material qualities and the factors utilized in the investigation has used to calculate vibration frequency values. The resulting calculations are backed up by tables and graphs, and it's an important to look into the parameters that affect the vibration frequencies that will occur on the designed storage tank vary. In the literature, water tanks are usually modelled as lumped masses. The horizontal stiffness of the column on which it is placed is assumed to be constant throughout. This is an approximation method of solving this problem. The column is handled in this study with a more realistic approach that fits the continuum mechanics in the analysis. The reservoir part is incorporated directly into the problem as the boundary condition.

Spinal Cord Injury: How Could Acupuncture Help?

        Qianqian Fan,Omer Cavus,Lize Xiong,Yun Xia 사단법인약침학회 2018 Journal of Acupuncture & Meridian Studies Vol.11 No.4

Spinal cord injury (SCI) is one of the most common causes of death and disability worldwide, and it can result in both permanent disability and serial complications in patients. Research shows that patients with SCI complications are often interested in acupuncture for symptomatic relief. Therefore, the issue of physicians advising their patients regarding the use of acupuncture to alleviate SCI complications becomes pertinent. We review and summarize two types of relevant publications: (1) literature concerning acupuncture for SCI and its complications and (2) underlying mechanisms of acupuncture therapy for SCI. Clinical trials and reviews have suggested that acupuncture effectively manages a range of post-SCI complications, including motor and sensory dysfunction, pain, neurogenic bowel and bladder, pressure ulcers, spasticity, and osteoporosis. The effect of acupuncture on post-SCI orthostatic hypotension and sexual dysfunction remains unclear. Decreased oxidative stress, inhibition of inflammation and neuronal apoptosis, regulation of the expression and activity of endogenous biological mediators, and increased regenerative stem cell production are the possible mechanisms of acupuncture therapy for SCI. Although many limitations have been reported in previous studies, given the evidence for the efficacy of acupuncture, we recommend that physicians should support the use of acupuncture therapy for SCI complications.

Autologous blood injection to the temporomandibular joint: magnetic resonance imaging findings

Candirli, Celal,Yuce, Serdar,Cavus, Umut Yucel,Akin, Kayihan,Cakir, Banu Korean Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology 2012 Imaging Science in Dentistry Vol.42 No.1

Purpose : The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of the autologous blood injection (ABI) for chronic recurrent temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dislocation using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Materials and Methods : ABI was applied to 14 patients who had chronic recurrent TMJ dislocation. MRIs of the patients were taken and compared before and one month after the injection. Results : All of the patients had no dislocations of their TMJs on clinical examination one month after the injection. In the pre-injection, unilateral or bilateral TMJ dislocations were observed on MRIs in all patients. One month after the injection, TMJ dislocations were not observed in MRI evaluation of any patients. A significant structural change that caused by ABI was not observed. Conclusion : The procedure was easy to perform and it caused no foreign body reaction. However, it was unclear how the procedure prevented the dislocation.

      • A novel method for the synthesis of nano-magnetite particles

        Syahmazgi, Maryam Ghodrati,Falamaki, Cavus,Lotfi, Abbas Sahebghadam Techno-Press 2014 Advances in nano research Vol.2 No.2

A novel and simple method for the synthesis of nano-magnetite particles is disclosed. In the novel procedure, $Fe^{2+}$ is the only source of metal cation. Carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) is used as the structure directing agent. The phase analysis of the nano-particles was performed using XRD and electron diffraction techniques. Size and morphology analysis was performed using light scattering and TEM techniques. The effect of $NH_4OH$ solution (32 wt. %) at different CMC concentrations on the size distribution of the final magnetite powders is studied. An optimal base concentration exists for each CMC concentration leading to minimal agglomeration. There exists a minimum CMC concentration (0.0016 wt. %), lower than that no magnetite forms. It is shown that using the new method, it is possible to immobilize a lipase enzyme (Candida Rugosa) with immobilization efficiency larger than 98 % with a loading more than 3 times the reported value in the literature. The latter phenomenon is explained based on the agglomerate state of the nano-particles in the liquid phase.

Removal of aqueous Fe2+ using MnO2–clinoptilolite in a batch slurry reactor: Catalyst synthesis, characterization and modeling of catalytic behavior

Reihaneh Pashmineh Azar,Cavus Falamaki 한국공업화학회 2012 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.18 No.2

An Iranian clinoptilolite has been modified with MnO2 for the catalytic removal of Fe2+ cations from water in a batch slurry reactor. The modified zeolite was subjected to FESEM, XRD, WDX, XRF and specific surface area analysis. A correlation for the intrinsic catalytic reaction rate incorporating both Fe2+ and dissolved oxygen concentration as a function of reaction temperature has been presented. The effect of the modified zeolite aggregate particle size on the iron removal kinetics has been investigated. It was shown that for particles larger than 150 mm, diffusion through the mesopores of the zeolite aggregate is rate controlling. The effective diffusion coefficient through the particles at RT has been calculated as 2.3 106 cm2 s1. It is shown that liquid phase molecular diffusion within the mesopores is the dominating mass transfer mechanism.

Leaching kinetics of ulexite in borax pentahydrate solutions saturated with carbon dioxide

Soner Kuslu,Feyza Cavus Disli,Sabri Colak 한국공업화학회 2010 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.16 No.5

The aim of the study was to investigate the dissolution kinetics of ulexite in borax pentahydrate solutions saturated with carbon dioxide in a batch reactor. Reaction temperature, stirring speed, CO2flow rate, solid/liquid ratio and ulexite particle size were selected as parameters on the dissolution rate of ulexite. The experimental results were successfully correlated by linear regression using Statistica Package Program. Dissolution curves were evaluated in order to test shrinking core models for solid–fluid systems. It was observed that the increase in the reaction temperature and decrease in the solid/liquid ratio causes an increase in the dissolution rate of ulexite. The dissolution extent is not affected by the stirring speed rate in experimental conditions. The activation energy was found to be 42.5 kJ/mol. The leaching of ulexite that was controlled by the chemical reaction was also supported with the relationship between the reaction rate constant and the particle radius. The rate expression associated with the dissolution rate of ulexite depending on the parameters chosen may be summarized as follows:1 ð1 XÞ1=3 ¼ 9:725 105 D0:8 SL 0:6 W0:1 e42;525=RT t:2010 The Korean Society of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry. Belching in Irritable Bowel Syndrome: An Impedance Study

( Tuba Obekli ),( Filiz Akyuz ),( Umit Akyuz ),( Serpil Arici ),( Raim Iliaz ),( Suut Gokturk ),( Sami Evirgen ),( Bilger Cavus ),( Cetin Karaca ),( Kadir Demir ),( Fatih Besisik ),( Sabahattin Kaymak 대한소화기기능성질환·운동학회(구 대한소화관운동학회) 2017 Journal of Neurogastroenterology and Motility (JNM Vol.23 No.3

Background/Aims There are limited data about the relation between belching and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). We aim to evaluate belching in patients with IBS. Methods Twenty-five patients with IBS and 12 healthy volunteers were enrolled in the study. IBS was diagnosed in accordance with the Rome III criteria. All patients were questioned about the presence of symptoms for belching, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and dyspepsia. Esophageal manometry and 24-hour pH-impedance were performed in all patients and healthy volunteers. Each of the patients with IBS underwent gastroscopy and colonoscopy. Results Demographic features were similar in both groups (P > 0.05). The belching rate was 32% in patients with IBS. The mean DeMeester score was significantly higher in IBS patients (13.80 ± 14.40 vs 6.04 ± 5.60, P = 0.027) and 24% of patients had pathologic acid reflux (DeMeester score > 14). Gastroscopy was normal in all patients. Symptom association probability positivity was detected in 24% of patients in the impedance study. The rate of weak acid reflux was also significantly higher in patients with IBS (97.00 ± 56.20 vs 58.20 ± 29.30, P = 0.025). The number of supine gas reflux (7.50 ± 6.40 vs 2.42 ± 2.80, P = 0.001) and supragastric belches was significantly higher in patients with IBS (51.20 ± 41.20 vs 25.08 ± 15.20, P = 0.035). Although the number of gastric belching was higher in controls, the difference did not reach statistical significance (12.10 ± 17.60 vs 4.90 ± 3.80, P = 0.575). We did not find any correlation between belching and any symptoms of IBS. Conclusions Belching is frequent in patients with IBS. Non-erosive reflux disease is frequent in IBS, which may be related to supragastric belching. (J Neurogastroenterol Motil 2017;23:409-414)
