Does Natural Disasters Have an Impact on Poverty in East Java, Indonesia?

Dwi Budi SANTOSO(Dwi Budi SANTOSO ),Dynda Fadhlillah AULIA(Dynda Fadhlillah AULIA ) 한국유통과학회 2023 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.10 No.1

There is a strong association between poverty levels and the probability of natural disasters. East Java, however, exhibits a distinct pattern. While the rate of poverty is declining, natural disasters are becoming more severe. Considering that East Java is an area with a high risk of natural disasters and a high poverty rate, this study aims to estimate the effect of environmental preservation and the magnitude of the impact of disasters as measured by the Disaster Risk Index (IRBI) on poverty. The 3SLS model is used on secondary data from 38 districts/cities from 2015 to 2021 as an analytical database. Based on the estimation results, there are 3 findings in this study: (i) the role of government, population development, and economic activity have a strong influence on nature conservation; (ii) nature conservation has a strong influence on disaster risk; and (iii) the disaster risk index has a strong effect on poverty. As a result, areas with a high level of disaster risk have a slower rate of poverty reduction. The role of this research is to show the need for the government’s role in improving the quality of natural disaster mitigation anticipation, economic activity, and the role of the population in a sustainable manner.

Determinants of Hospital Nurse Burnout: The Moderating Role of Supervision

Budi Santoso,Ferdic Sukma Wahyudin,Indra Fahrizal,Syaiful Munir,Bagus Shandy NARMADITYA 충남대학교 아시아여론연구소 2022 Asian journal for public opinion research Vol.10 No.4

Health care has become a rapidly growing industry where the role of nurses as a group of emotional labor employees is central and prone to burnout. The purpose of this study was to examine the role of supervision in moderating burnout caused by the effect of work intensity, customer contact, and self-efficacy, where the moderating role of supervision on burnout with its various predictors is still unstable. This quantitative study was based on research samples collected through questionnaires from 131 hospital nurses spread over two different locations. The questionnaire asked about supervision, work intensity, customer contact, self-efficacy and burnout used a Likert scale, which was then analyzed using SEM-PLS. The results indicated that work intensity and self-efficacy had a significant effect on burnout, while customer contact had no significant effect on burnout. Supervision as a moderator only significantly moderates the effect of work intensity on burnout, while supervision is not significant as a moderating variable on the effect of customer contact and self-efficacy on burnout. This study can contribute to the development of theories about burnout and practically can be used as a reference by policy makers in enhancing the role of supervision for nurses in hospitals.

The Effect of Industrial Agglomeration on Economic Growth in East Java, Indonesia

Arief Tri HARDJOKO,Dwi Budi SANTOSO,Agus SUMAN,Rachmad Kresna SAKTI 한국유통과학회 2021 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.8 No.10

Industrial agglomeration policy is a strategy that is expected to accelerate economic growth to transform an impoverished region into a prosperous one. However, industrial agglomeration also has the potential to exacerbate development inequality due to the concentration of economic development activities in certain areas. Therefore, this study aims to investigate what strategies are best to minimize the adverse effects of industrial agglomeration. This study uses econometric analysis with panel data covering 38 districts/cities in East Java during the 2011–2019 period. The results showed that the combination of industrial agglomeration policies coupled with accelerated sectoral growth, hard infrastructure development, and soft infrastructure provided the best policy outcome, improving regional inequality and accelerating economic growth in East Java. Based on the analysis, we find that East Java’s economic growth characteristics are convergent but relatively long. Therefore, the East Java economic development policy during 2010–2019 should be reviewed due to the relatively long convergence period. Furthermore, this study also found that industrial agglomeration slows down the convergence and economic growth of East Java. In the future, the deployment of Industrial Development Centers (PPI) outside the existing eight districts/cities is needed to accelerate the spread of economic activity in East Java.

      • Prostate Cancer in Younger and Older Patients: Do We Treat Them Differently?

Situmorang, Gerhard Reinaldi,Umbas, Rainy,Mochtar, Chaidir A.,Santoso, Rachmat Budi Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.9

Diagnostic and therapeutic strategies of prostate cancer may largely influenced by patients' age at presentation. This study is aimed to evaluate the characteristics, diagnostic and treatment strategies in prostate cancer patients in our centres. A cross-sectional analytic study of prostate cancer data in two main referral cancer centres, Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital and Dharmais National Cancer Centre from 1995-2010, was therefore performed. Patients were divided into 2 sub-populations; below 60 years (younger patients) and 75 years old and above (older patients). PSA levels, diagnostic modalities, Gleason score and therapeutic options were analysed for both and compared using bivariate analysis. 152 patients were <60 years and 210 were ${\geq}75$ years. There was no statistical difference in mean PSA level (797.9ng/mL vs 345.3 ng/mL, respectively; p>0.05) and diagnosis was made by biopsy in majority of patients in both groups (68.2% and 71.6% in younger and older groups respectively). Most presented with an advanced disease stage (65.1% and 66.0%, respectively) and there was no statistically significant difference in mean Gleason scores f (8.1 vs 7.7; p>0.05). Primary androgen deprivation therapy (PADT) was the main treatment for overall patients (48.0% and 50.7%, respectively). Radiotherapy and radical prostatectomy are the main therapeutic modalities for younger patients with local and locally advanced disease (39.6% and 35.4% respectively), while the majority of older patients with the same disease stage were treated with radiotherapy and PADT (45.8% and 39.0% respectively). Differences observed in treatment modalities were statistically significant (p<0.0003). We conclude that there is no difference in disease clinical aggressiveness of the two groups but significant differences were observed in therapeutic strategies utilised with younger and older patients.

Dimensional Stability and Mechanical Properties of Citric Acid Impregnated Samama Wood (Anthocephalus macrophyllus (Roxb) Havil) at High Curing Temperatures

( Sarah Augustina ),( Sari Delviana Marbun ),( Sudarmanto ),( Narto ),( Deazy Rachmi Trisatya ),( Eko Budi Santoso ),( Dhimas Pramadani ),( Nanda Nur Afni ),( Tushliha Ayyuni Fariha ),( Gabriel Wiwind 한국목재공학회 2023 목재공학 Vol.51 No.6

Samama wood (Anthocephalus macrophyllus (Roxb) Havil) is a fast-growing and lesser-utilized wood species that has inferior properties; therefore, its quality needs to be improved. This research aimed to determine the effect of citric acid impregnation at high curing temperatures on the dimensional stability and mechanical properties of wood. Citric acid solution with 10% concentration (w/w) was impregnated into wood samples by vacuum-pressure method (-0.5 cmHg, 30 min; 0.7 MPa, 3 h), followed by curing process at 140℃, 160℃, and 180℃ of temperature for 1 h. In comparison, the other wood samples were heat treated at the same temperatures and time. The results showed that the increase in curing and heat temperatures for both treatments were directly proportional to the dimensional stability, but inversely proportional to the mechanical properties. Citric acid impregnated had higher density, dimensional stability, and mechanical properties, except for modulus of rupture, than that of heat treatment. The optimum temperature is suggested at 160℃ in both treatments.

Pandu Yudha Adi Putra Wirabuana,Rina Laksmi Hendrati,Liliana Baskorowati,Mudji Susanto,Mashudi  ,Harry Budi Santoso Sulistiadi,Dedi Setiadi,Sumardi  ,Syamsu Alam 한국산림과학회 2022 Forest Science And Technology Vol.18 No.2

Clonal teak plantation has been extensively developed in Java and providing a purposeful contribution to improve the productivity of the state forests. It also plays a crucial role in cli- mate change mitigation and serves as a primary source of renewable energy. However, information about its stand dynamics has been rarely documented. This study investigated the growth, biomass, carbon stock, and energy storage along an age series of clonal teak plantation. The study site was located in the Kendal Forest Management Unit. Data were col- lected from 14 different compartments as the priority sites of clonal teak establishment. Every compartment had similar site quality but different in age stand. Results demonstrated that the incremental rate of diameter and height was higher during the initial period between 1 and 3 years. The mean volume increased along with age and reached its max- imum value at 14 years (164.54 m3 ha1). Biomass distribution in each tree component varied from 8.75 to 66.72%. More than 80% biomass production was accumulated above ground. Total carbon stock improved from 2.68 Mg ha1 at 1 year to 54.01 Mg ha1 at 14 years. Our study noted that the total energy storage in clonal teak plantation increased progressively from 22.71 106 MJ ha1 at 1 year to 377.74 106 MJ ha1 at 14 years. Overall, this study concluded the growth, biomass, carbon, and energy in clonal teak increased progressively with age. Further investigations are still required to understand the stand dynamics of clonal teak at different sites.
