Phenotyping Stress in Virtual Reality Environment

Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) into workflows, understanding their impact on employee stress is essential. This study examines stress detection in VR, focusing on physiological markers (facial expressions) and behavioral signals (controller movements). 12 participants were subjected to the Trier Social Stress Test, with VR headsets capturing facial expressions and controllers tracking motion data. Stress levels were evaluated using the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) and compared against traditional stress detection methods. A classifier was used to categorize stress, merging facial cues, controller data, and STAI results achieving a 62.14% accuracy. The findings highlight VRs potential in automatic stress recognition and offer a multidimensional approach to stress analysis. This research intersects psychology, humancomputer interaction, and affective computing, marking a significant advancement in technology-enabled stress evaluation and opening avenues for future research in VRbased stress phenotyping.

본 논문의 목적은 한국 온라인 게임 산업을 구성하는 게임 회사들에 대한 견해에 근거하여 한국 정부의 참여에 대한 유효성을 평가하기 위함이다. 국내 온라인 게임 회사를 대상으로 실행된 조사에 의하면 자회사 및 전반적인 산업에 대한 지원에 관련하여 인지되는 가치와 유효성에 있어 정부의 활동과 역할이 평가되었다. 또한 정부 활동에 대한 유효성과 범위에 관해서 회사들은 상당히 긍정적인 입장을 취했지만 산업발전에 있어서 필요한 부분과 현재 제공되는 지원에는 많은 차이가 있다고 조사되었다. 국내 마케팅 보조, 향상된 교육 프로그램, 산업 협력 증진, 투자 자본 입수, 수출 보조, 및 산업에 대한 현재 정부의 수동적인 태도 개선 등을 포함한 6개의 세계적인 영역에 관련하여 구체적인 제안이 제공되었다.

Implementation of the IPACK (Infiltration between the Popliteal Artery and Capsule of the Knee) block into a multimodal analgesic pathway for total knee replacement

Background: The Infiltration between the Popliteal Artery and Capsule of the Knee (IPACK) block is a new anesthesiologist- administered analgesic technique for controlling posterior knee pain that has not yet been well studied in total knee arthroplasty (TKA) patients. We compared pain outcomes in TKA patients before and after implementation of the IPACK with the hypothesis that patients receiving IPACK blocks will report lower pain scores on postoperative day (POD) 0 than non-IPACK patients. Methods: With Institutional Review Board approval, we retrospectively reviewed data for consecutive TKA patients by a single surgeon 4 months before (PRE) and after (POST) IPACK implementation. All TKA patients received adductor canal catheters and peri-operative multimodal analgesia. The primary outcome was pain on POD 0. Other outcomes were daily pain scores, opioid consumption, ambulation distance, length of stay, and adverse events within 30 days. Results: Post-implementation, 48/50 (96%) of TKA patients received an IPACK block, and they were compared with 32 patients in the PRE group. On POD 0, the lowest pain score (median [10th–90th percentiles]) was significantly lower for the POST group compared to the PRE group (0 [0–4.3] vs. 2.5 [0–7]; P = 0.003). The highest patient-reported pain scores on any POD were similar between groups with no differences in other outcomes. Conclusions: Within a multimodal analgesic protocol, addition of IPACK blocks decreased the lowest pain scores on POD 0. Although other outcomes were unchanged, there may be a role for new opioid-sparing analgesic techniques, and changing clinical practice change can occur rapidly.

Changi Airport Group (CAG): A Cut Above the Rest

This study analyses the factors that contributed to the rise and success of the Changi Airport Group (CAG) in the aviation industry. The history of CAG can be segmented into three main periods: the rapid growth of the aviation industry from 1970-2000, the incorporation of Industry 4.0 technologies that maintained CAG’s growth from 2000-2009 and the change of cultural perspectives and strategic design from 2009 to the present that propelled CAG to the success story that it is today. The first period examines the strategic importance of foresight and planning future infrastructure to capture a market that is undergoing a phase of exponential demand. The second period elucidates on the significance of incorporating technologies to distinguish itself in a highly competitive industry and amidst external threats. The last period reveals how change is critical to counter weaknesses in strategic design and in cultural and political issues. Besides these strategic moves, several factors were also integral to the company’s success. They illustrate that firstly, unparalleled service excellence is critical in capturing market demand. Secondly, engaging in corporate social responsibility is crucial in establishing an excellent brand identity. Lastly, being forward looking in building infrastructure and innovatively incorporating technology in meeting industry needs will help maintain a company’s growth even with periods of stagnation. These practices can be adopted by companies experiencing rapid growth and subsequently, stagnation, as they reinvent themselves in today’s evolving global landscape. From the turning points and success factors of CAG, the key takeaways we discovered were that change, innovation and foresight help deal with future threats and existing weaknesses. Lastly, a brand identity can be a success if it serves the needs and incorporates values that resonate with people.

American Media Coverage of the Assassination of Durham White Stevens

On March 23, 1908 Chang In-hwan assassinated Durham White Stevens in San Francisco. Chang, a Korean nationalist, blamed Stevens, a pro-Japanese advisor to the Korean government, for the increasing Japanese presence in Korea. The Stevens assassination set off a firestorm of news coverage that examined the Korean independence movement, exposed Stevens` activities in Korea, and reignited debates surrounding Asian immigration to the United States. This article analyzes 19 major newspapers throughout the United States to reveal American public sentiments toward the Korean nationalist movement. Specifically, the tone and bias found in most newspaper articles exemplified the hostile social climate Korean-American faced community in California.

Panel Data Analysis of Ethnic Fractionalization, Ethnic Tension, Religious Tension, and the Gini Coefficient

The study uses an unbalanced panel of 103 countries, with data from 1988 to 2018, to examine the relationship between ethnic fractionalization, ethnic tension, religious tension, and the Gini coefficient. The econometric model uses Driscoll and Kraay standard errors to account for heteroscedasticity, autocorrelation, and cross-sectional dependence. The data is categorized based on income levels and regional distinctions to identify and understand the varying patterns and trends across different groups. Religious tension is statistically significant in more cases than ethnic fractionalization or ethnic tension. Increases in religious tension worsen income distribution. Ethnic tension is significant only in the lowest tension categories in the full and non-OECD panels. Increases in ethnic fractionalization can either worsen or improve income distribution, depending on the panel. Findings indicate that cultural tension can exacerbate economic conditions, potentially driving the observed deterioration in income distribution.
