      • A new procedure for post-buckling analysis of plane trusses using genetic algorithm

Shaahin Bidmeshki,AliReza Habibi 국제구조공학회 2021 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.40 No.6

In this research, a new minimization-based controlled method was proposed to analyze steel plane truss structures undergoing large deformations. Non-linear solution was acquired by minimizing a constrained optimization problem via the genetic algorithm. The suggested procedure can directly predict buckling load and its corresponding displacements, and precisely trace equilibrium path of geometrically non-linear plane truss structures. A computer program was formed to anticipate both elastic pre- and post-buckling behaviors or any arbitrary point on equilibrium path of the structures subjected to abnormal loads. Notably, a load-deflection curve with multiple limit points and a complex snap-back phenomenon can be followed using the proposed method. Five truss examples were analyzed, and the acquired results were compared with those obtained by theoretical solution, modified arc-length, Newton-Raphson methods, and those reported in the literature to validate robustness and accuracy of the proposed procedure.

Generation of Scalable Hepatic Micro-Tissues as a Platform for Toxicological Studies

        Darakhshan Sara,Bidmeshki Pour Ali,Kowsari-Esfahan Reza,Vosough Massoud,Montazeri Leila,Ghanian Mohammad Hossein,Baharvand Hossein,Piryaei Abbas 한국조직공학과 재생의학회 2020 조직공학과 재생의학 Vol.17 No.4

Background: Currently, there is an urgent need for scalable and reliable in vitro models to assess the effects of therapeutic entities on the human liver. Hepatoma cell lines, including Huh-7, show weakly resemblance to human hepatocytes, limiting their significance in toxicity studies. Co-culture of hepatic cells with non-parenchymal cells, and the presence of extracellular matrix have been shown to influence the biological behavior of hepatocytes. The aim of this study was to generate the scalable and functional hepatic micro-tissues (HMTs). Methods: The size-controllable HMTs were generated through co-culturing of Huh-7 cells by mesenchymal stem cells and human umbilical vein endothelial cells in a composite hydrogel of liver-derived extracellular matrix and alginate, using an air-driven droplet generator. Results: The generated HMTs were functional throughout a culture period of 28 days, as assessed by monitoring glycogen storage, uptake of low-density lipoprotein and indocyanine green. The HMTs also showed increased secretion levels of albumin, alpha-1-antitrypsin, and fibrinogen, and production of urea. Evaluating the expression of genes involved in hepatic-specific and drug metabolism functions indicated a significant improvement in HMTs compared to two-dimensional (2D) culture of Huh-7 cells. Moreover, in drug testing assessments, HMTs showed higher sensitivity to hepatotoxins compared to 2D cultured Huh-7 cells. Furthermore, induction and inhibition potency of cytochrome P450 enzymes confirmed that the HMTs can be used for in vitro drug screening. Conclusion: Overall, we developed a simple and scalable method for generation of liver micro-tissues, using Huh-7, with improved hepatic-specific functionality, which may represent a biologically relevant platform for drug studies.

A dual approach to perform geometrically nonlinear analysis of plane truss structures

AliReza Habibi,Shaahin Bidmeshki 국제구조공학회 2018 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.27 No.1

The main objective of this study is to develop a dual approach for geometrically nonlinear finite element analysis of plane truss structures. The geometric nonlinearity is considered using the Total Lagrangian formulation. The nonlinear solution is obtained by introducing and minimizing an objective function subjected to displacement-type constraints. The proposed method can fully trace the whole equilibrium path of geometrically nonlinear plane truss structures not only before the limit point but also after it. No stiffness matrix is used in the main approach and the solution is acquired only based on the direct classical stress-strain formulations. As a result, produced errors caused by linearization and approximation of the main equilibrium equation will be eliminated. The suggested algorithm can predict both pre- and post-buckling behavior of the steel plane truss structures as well as any arbitrary point of equilibrium path. In addition, an equilibrium path with multiple limit points and snap-back phenomenon can be followed in this approach. To demonstrate the accuracy, efficiency and robustness of the proposed procedure, numerical results of the suggested approach are compared with theoretical solution, modified arc-length method, and those of reported in the literature.

      • Effectiveness of Teach-Back Self-Management Training Program on Happiness of Breast Cancer Patients

Ahmadidarrehsima, Sudabeh,Rahnama, Mozhgan,Afshari, Mahdi,Bidmeshki, Elahe Asadi Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2016 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.17 No.10

Self-management training is one of the ways to empower patients to cope with disease. The aim of this before-and-after quasi-experimental study was to determine effects of a teach-back self-management training method on breast cancer patient happiness. Fifty breast cancer patients who visited the Park-e Neshat Limited Surgery Clinic in Kerman, Iran were randomly divided into intervention and control groups after convenience sampling and checking for inclusion eligibility. Data were collected using a demographic questionnaire and the Oxford Happiness Inventory before and after teach-back training and analyzed using SPSS 23. Findings showed no significant difference between mean happiness scores in the two groups before the intervention. However, after the intervention, the mean happiness score in the intervention group increased from 37.2 to 62.9, while it decreased from 41.4 to 29.8 in the control group. These changes were statistically significant (p<0.001). Even after controlling for the effect of confounding factors such as residence location and history of cancer education, the observed differences between the groups were statistically significant (p<0.001). A teach-back self-management training program can increase happiness levels in breast cancer patients. Therefore, the use of this method is recommended to improve self-management and increase happiness.
