        Effect of motion-graphic video-based training on the performance of operating room nurse students in cataract surgery in Iran: a randomized controlled study

        Purpose The present study was conducted to determine the effect of motion-graphic video-based training on the performance of operating room nurse students in cataract surgery using phacoemulsification at Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences in Iran. Methods This was a randomized controlled study conducted among 36 students training to become operating room nurses. The control group only received routine training, and the intervention group received motion-graphic video-based training on the scrub nurse’s performance in cataract surgery in addition to the educator’s training. The performance of the students in both groups as scrub nurses was measured through a researcher-made checklist in a pre-test and a post-test. Results The mean scores for performance in the pre-test and post-test were 17.83 and 26.44 in the control group and 18.33 and 50.94 in the intervention group, respectively, and a significant difference was identified between the mean scores of the pre- and post-test in both groups (P=0.001). The intervention also led to a significant increase in the mean performance score in the intervention group compared to the control group (P=0.001). Conclusion Considering the significant difference in the performance score of the intervention group compared to the control group, motion-graphic video-based training had a positive effect on the performance of operating room nurse students, and such training can be used to improve clinical training.

        Evaluation of Henna Extract Performance on Corrosion Inhibition of API 5L Steel in H2S-Containing Medium and DFT Quantum Computing of Its Constituents

        In this work, the effect of Henna extract as an inhibitor on the corrosion behavior of API 5L Gr.B steel in H2S-containingsolution at 25 ˚C was investigated. The electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and potentiodynamic polarizationtests were used for determination of corrosion parameters in the blank sample and samples with different concentrations ofthe extract. The obtained results indicated that with increasing Henna extract concentration, the corrosion current densitydecreased and the inhibition efficiency increased. The calculated efficiency of EIS and polarization tests showed good agreement. The studied inhibitor in this work follows the Langmuir adsorption isotherm and the type of surface adsorption isphysical. Quantum chemical parameters such as energy gap ( ΔE = EHOMO– ELUMO),lowest unoccupied molecular orbitalenergy (ELUMO), highest occupied molecular orbital energy (EHOMO), hardness ( ) and electronegativity ( inh ) for the mainconstituents of Henna extract were calculated. The results of quantum chemistry proved that the main constituent of Hennaextract and the inhibition agent was Lawsone.

        Analysis of a Triangular-shaped Plasmonic Metal-Insulator-Metal Bragg Grating Waveguide

        A novel triangular-shaped plasmonic metal-insulator-metal (MIM) Bragg grating waveguide is introduced,whose band-gap is narrower than that of the conventional step type and wider than that of the sawtoothshaped one. Moreover apodized triangular-shaped MIM Bragg grating structures are proposed in order to reduce the side lobes of the transmission spectrum, because the Bragg reflector with a sawtooth profile has a smoother transmission spectrum than that of a triangular-shaped one. The performance of the proposed structures is simulated by using the finite difference time domain method.

        Women’s survival through social media: A narrative analysis

        While the popularity of social media is generally increasing, it is becoming particularly important for survivors of collective violence. The study presented here focuses on personal narratives of Êzîdî women who survived the violence perpetrated against them by the so-called “Islamic State.” In these, I identify both thematic and linguistic characteristics. My analysis incorporates concepts from discourse analysis and covers YouTube, Facebook, and other weblogs. As findings demonstrate, the personal narratives of the Êzîdî women can provide a deep understanding of the violence they have experienced and the support that the use of social media can provide. These insights in turn are intended to inform social media communication initiatives that reach out to and support traumatized individuals.

        The effects of incorporated resveratrol in edible coating based on sodium alginate on the refrigerated trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) fillets’ sensorial and physicochemical features

        The goal of this study was examining the effects of sodium alginate coating (SA) containing resveratrol (R) on enhancement rainbow trout fillets’ shelf-life. Treatments of the study were as follows: control, SA, SA-R 0.001% and SA-R 0.003%. Storage of the samples was done for 15 days at 4 C. To analyze samples, 3-day intervals were used. Compared to the uncoated trout, the values of pH, peroxide and K were significantly lower in the coated samples (p\0.05). R enhanced the impacts of alginate on extending the samples’ shelf life. Sensory analyses showed that R improved the sensory scores significantly (p\0.05); besides, it did not show more changes on the sensory features and was invisible in the surface of samples. In the conclusion, R was suggested to be a strong alternative to synthetic antioxidants in refrigerated trout fillet in very low concentrations with many health benefits.

        همانطور که افزایش وگسترش محبوبیت رسانه و یوتیوب نشان داده شده است، روایت شخصی به اشتراک گذاشته ازطریق رسانه های اجتماعی فضایی برای گسترش سریع ارتباطات در میان زنان ایزدی فراهم کرده است . شناسایی ویژگی موضوعی و زبانی با ترکیب مفاهیم تحلیلی از تجزیه و تحلیل گفتمان در یوتیوب، فیسبوک، و وبلاگ های زنان ایزدی وسیله ای فراهم می کند برای درک بهتری از خشونتهایی که اونها تجربه می کنند، با استفاده از کانال های ارتباطی، این می تواندوسیله ای برای اطلاع رسانی به عنوان ابتکاری در رسانه های ارتباطات اجتماعی و با هدف استفاده از داستان های شخصی افرادی که از تروما رنج برده اند می باشد.         Obesity, Diabetes Mellitus, and Metabolic Syndrome: Review in the Era of COVID-19

        Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), a novel coronavirus named severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is now at pandemic levels leading to considerable morbidity and mortality throughout the globe. Patients with obesity, diabetes, and metabolic syndrome (MetS) are mainly susceptible and more probably to get severe side effects when affected by this virus. The pathophysiologic mechanisms for these notions have not been completely known. The pro-inflammatory milieu observed in patients with metabolic disruption could lead to COVID-19-mediated host immune dysregulation, such as immune dysfunction, severe inflammation, microvascular dysfunction, and thrombosis. The present review expresses the current knowledge regarding the influence of obesity, diabetes mellitus, and MetS on COVID-19 infection and severity, and their pathophysiological mechanisms.

        Predictive factors of death in neonates with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy receiving selective head cooling

        Background: Severe perinatal asphyxia results in multiple organ involvement, neonate hospitalization, and eventual death. Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the predictive factors of death in newborns with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) receiving selective head cooling. Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive-retrospective study was conducted from 2013 to 2018 in Fatemieh Hospital of Hamadan and included 51 newborns who were admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit with a diagnosis of HIE. Selective head cooling for patients with moderate to severe HIE began within 6 hours of birth and continued for 72 hours. The required data for the predictive factors of death were extracted from the patients' medical files, recorded on a premade form, and analyzed using SPSS ver. 16. Results: Of the 51 neonates with moderate to severe HIE who were treated with selective head cooling, 16 (31%) died. There were significant relationships between death and the need for advanced neonatal resuscitation (P=0.002), need for mechanical ventilation (P=0.016), 1-minute Apgar score (P=0.040), and severely abnormal amplitude-integrated electroencephalography (a-EEG) (P=0.047). Multiple regression of variables or data showed that the need for advanced neonatal resuscitation was an independent predictive factor of death (P=0.0075) and severely abnormal a-EEG was an independent predictive factor of asphyxia severity (P=0.0001). Conclusion: All cases of neonatal death in our study were severe HIE (stage 3). Advanced neonatal resuscitation was an independent predictor of death, while a severely abnormal a-EEG was an independent predictor of asphyxia severity in infants with HIE.

        Xylene Induces Oxidative Stress and Mitochondria Damage in Isolated Human Lymphocytes

        Xylene is a cyclic hydrocarbon and an environmental pollutant. It is also used in medical technology, paints, dyes, polishes and in many industries as a solvent; therefore, an understanding of the interaction between xylene and human lymphocytes is of significant interest. Biochemical assessment was used to demonstrate that exposure of lymphocytes to xylene induces cytotoxicity (at 6 hr), generates intracellular reactive oxygen species, collapse of mitochondrial membrane potential, lysosomal injury, lipid peroxidation and depletion of glutathione (at 3 hr). The findings show that xylene triggers oxidative stress and organelle damage in lymphocytes. The results of our study suggest that the use of antioxidant, mitochondrial and lysosomal protective agents can be helpful for individuals subject to chronic exposure to xylene.

        A simple method has been developed for four-component synthesis of disubstituted 1,3,4-oxadiazoles using (N-isocyanimino)triphenylphosphorane, a primary amine, a carboxylic acid and biacetyl in CH2Cl2 by the Ugi- 4CR/aza-Wittig sequence at room temperature in excellent yields.
