Synthesis of 2-Arylbenzothiazoles Catalyzed by Biomimetic Catalyst, β-Cyclodextrin
Balaji S. Londhe,Umesh R. Pratap,Jyotirling R. Mali,Ramrao A. Mane 대한화학회 2010 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.31 No.8
Cyclocondensation of 2-aminothiophenol and aryl/heteryl aldehydes has been carried using biomimetic catalyst, β-Cyclodextrin in water and obtained 2-aryl/heteryl benzothiazoles with better to excellent yields. This biomimetic catalyzed route is simple, economic, and environmentally benign.

Purpose: To identify and quantify the presence of extra-articular tibia vara that might influence the mechanical axis alignment after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Materials and Methods: A total of 48 TKAs in 30 osteoarthritic Indian patients were prospectively evaluated. The hip-knee-ankle angle (HKA), joint line convergence angle, and varus angulation at the femur and tibia were measured from the preoperative and postoperative standing hip-to-ankle radiographs. Four different methods were used to measure the varus angulation at the tibia: metaphyseo-diaphyseal angle (MDA), the angle between the anatomical axis and mechanical axis of the tibia, the angle between the proximal third and distal third of tibia and the angle between the proximal half and distal half of tibia. Results: Extra-articular tibia vara quantified using MDA had the most positive correlation with HKA. Receiver operating characteristic plotting showed that MDA of >4o predicts abnormal postoperative HKA. Twenty-eight out of 48 knees had MDA of >4o, and 78.6% of these had postoperative HKA under-correction and 21.4% had less than ideal tibial component position. Conclusions: A significant inherent extra-articular varus angulation best measured using MDA exists in the proximal tibia in osteoarthritic Indian patients undergoing TKA. MDA of >4o is associated with abnormal postoperative HKA. Computer navigation may be useful for achieving ideal correction in such cases.
Bilateral Total Hip Arthroplasty in a Rare Case of Multicentric Reticulohistiocytosis
Balaji Saibaba,Ramesh Kumar Sen,Aman Sharma 대한정형외과학회 2015 Clinics in Orthopedic Surgery Vol.7 No.4
Multicentric reticulohistiocytosis (MRH) is a rare systemic disease, which commonly manifests as muco-cutaneous papulonodules and inflammatory erosive polyarthropathy. In this research, we report the clinical manifestations and management of a rare case of MRH with destructive arthropathy of bilateral hip joints and arthritis mutilans presenting with characteristic deformities. Disabling hip arthropathy that occurs secondary to MRH can be successfully managed with bilateral total hip arthroplasty (THA). Osteopenia and acetabular bone defects must be anticipated during THA. This case is reported due to its rare occurrence and because little literature has been published regarding THA in such patients.
Non-Isolated Unidirectional Three-Port Cuk-Cuk Converter for Fuel Cell/Solar PV Systems
Balaji Chandrasekar,N. Chellammal,Bhargavi Nallamothu 전력전자학회 2019 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.19 No.5
A DC-DC Non-Isolated Three-Port Cuk-Cuk (NI-TPCC) converter for interfacing renewable energy sources (RESs) such as Fuel Cell (FC) and Photovoltaic (PV) energy with a DC load is presented in this paper. It features single-stage power conversion from both of the input ports to the load port. The proposed NI-TPCC converter is designed based on the classical Cuk converter. The operational modes and power flow are analyzed in the continuous conduction mode (CCM), and the relationships among the port voltages are derived. Continuous currents in all three ports with less ripple enhance the performance of a fuel cell and its operating life. Furthermore, the output inductor is shared with both of the input ports, which reduces the number of active and passive components. The effectiveness of the designed NI-TPCC converter has been validated through simulation and experimental results.
Sputtering Deposition of Aluminium Molybdenum Alloy Thin Film Anodes for Thin Film Microbatteries
Balaji Sivaramakrishnan,Mani Chandran Thirumoolam,Mutharasu Devarajan 대한금속·재료학회 2015 ELECTRONIC MATERIALS LETTERS Vol.11 No.3
Al5Mo thin film anodes for Li-ion batteries were prepared using DC sputtering under different conditions, the latter being specified as deposition at room temperature (S0), deposition at 300°C (S1), and deposition at room temperature followed by thermal annealing at 300°C (S2). The thin films were deposited using an aluminum target tiled with molybdenum discs at a ratio calculated based on the theoretical sputtering yields. The structural and compositional analyses performed with x-ray diffraction (XRD) and energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDX) confirmed the Al5Mo compound formation and the Al/Mo elemental ratio, respectively. The compound formation was observed to be evident only for the thin films subjected to heat treatment during or after deposition. Scanning electron micrographs reveal a higher porosity of approximately 23% for sample S0 and a lower porosity of around 18% for sample S1. The chronopotentiometry results show a higher volumetric specific capacity of approximately 197 mAh/cm3 for sample S1. Capacity increments have been observed for all samples upon charge-discharge cycles, whose values after 25 cycles for samples S0, S1, and S2 were 41.2%, 20.4%, and 21.1%, respectively.
Surface Passivation Schemes for High-Efficiency c-Si Solar Cells - A Review
Balaji, Nagarajan,Hussain, Shahzada Qamar,Park, Cheolmin,Raja, Jayapal,Yi, Junsin,Jeyakumar, R. The Korean Institute of Electrical and Electronic 2015 Transactions on Electrical and Electronic Material Vol.16 No.5
To reduce the cost of solar electricity, the crystalline-silicon (c-Si) photovoltaic industry is moving toward the use of thinner wafers (100 μm to 200 μm) to achieve a high efficiency. In this field, it is imperative to achieve an effective passivation method to reduce the electronic losses at the c-Si interface. In this article, we review the most promising surface passivation schemes that are available for high-efficiency solar cells.
Advances in High Efficiency Back Contact Back Junction Solar Cells
Balaji, Nagarajan,Park, Cheolmin,Raja, Jayapal,Yi, Junsin Korea Photovoltaic Society 2015 Current Photovoltaic Research Vol.3 No.2
In the past few decade's researchers, scientists, engineers of photovoltaic (PV) industry are working towards low cost high efficiency Si solar cells. Over the last decade the interest in back contact solar cell has been acquiring as well as a gradual introduction to industrial applications is increasing. As an alternative to conventional solar cells with a front and rear contact, the back-contact cells has remained a research topic. The aim of this work is to present a comprehensive summary of results incurred in the back contact back junction solar cells such as interdigitated back-contact (IBC), emitter wrap-through (EWT) and metallization wrap-through (MWT) over the years.
