        Burr Measurement Method Based on Burr Surface Area

        One of the major issues of drilling operations pertains to the formation of burrs, which greatly influences the accuracy of the manufactured parts, and, thus, the capability to meet the desired performance of the part. To remove or prevent these burrs, their geometry must be measured accurately, even though they are sharp and irregular in shape. The accurate measurement of the geometry of a burr will lead to the development of a proper deburring method. In this work, the authors describe a simple and convenient new measurement technique for drilling burr profiles and a developed drilling burr measurement system based on surface area. The new method presented in this research aims at providing a comparative evaluation of the height, arc length and area of the burr, as well as its geometrical characteristics. When the average height and arc length measurement methods are compared with the area measurement method, large deviations in burr height are detected. In particular, these deviations increase more in non-uniform burrs. In the measurement of burr size, the new developed method is based on area measurement and is carried out using a computer. Therefore, there is no deviation between the measurements. In contrast, the average deviation ranges for the height and arc length measurement methods are found to be 9.94–48.14% and 6.07–18.82%, respectively.

        La traducción de onomatopeyas coreanas al español: el caso del webtoon

        Webtoons are comics (manhwa) originated in Korea, published on online platforms. This new genre is gaining countless followers, not only inside Korea, but also internationally, due to its easy access and the popularity of K-pop and Korean dramas. Webtoons have originated plenty of movies and dramas, and their growing global impact predicts that they will become another strong pillar of the Korean wave, commonly known as Hallyu. With the present globalization of webtoons, an essential figure is emerging: the webtoon translator. Furthermore, the translation of this genre has a very unique characteristic, which is the relevant role of onomatopoeia. This peculiarity also develops in manga, or any type of comic in general. However, the Korean language not only contains a large number of onomatopoeia, but also a considerable number of mimesis. This article will focus on the study of onomatopoeia and mimesis in Korean webtoons. An explanation of the different translation processes and a corpus of Korean-Spanish onomatopoeia will be provided additionally.

        Management of renin-angiotensin-aldosterone inhibitors and other antihypertensives and their clinical effects on pre-anesthesia blood pressure

        Background: Blood pressure fluctuations appear more significant in patients with poorly controlled hypertension and are known to be associated with adverse perioperative morbidity. In the present study, we aimed to determine the effects of antihypertensive drug treatment strategies on preanesthetic operating room blood pressure measurements.Methods: A total of 717 patients participated in our study; 383 patients who were normotensive based on baseline measurements and not under antihypertensive therapy were excluded from the analysis. The remaining 334 patients were divided into six groups according to the antihypertensive drug treatment. These six groups were examined in terms of preoperative baseline and pre-anesthesia blood pressure measurements. Results: As a result of the study, it was observed that 24% of patients had high blood pressure precluding surgery, and patients using renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system inhibitors (RAASI) had higher pre-anesthesia systolic blood pressure than patients using other antihypertensive drugs. Patients who received beta-blockers were also observed to have the lowest pre-anesthesia systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, and mean blood pressure, compared to others. Conclusions: Recently, whether RAASI should be continued preoperatively remains controversial. Our study shows that RAASI cannot provide optimal pre-anesthesia blood pressure and lead to an increase in the number of postponed surgeries, probably due to withdrawal of medication before the operation. Therefore, the preoperative discontinuation of RAASI should be reevaluated in future studies.

        Hydroxyapatite production and characterization from four pufferfish species teeth

        The pufferfishes are invasive alien fish species in the Mediterranean Sea with a powerful toxin in its body called tetrodotoxin. It has no economic value and is very abundant all over the world’s marine waters. Calcium phosphate bioceramic materialsespecially hydroxyapatite are commonly applied as implant resources because of their close resemblance in structure withnatural bone. In this study, natural hydroxyapatite was obtained from the teeth of four pufferfish, the obtained products werecharacterised and their potential uses in the biomedical industry were revealed. Pufferfish teeth were extracted from the fish,thoroughly rinsed using deionized water, measured, and subsequently placed within a furnace set at a temperature of 105 °C. Once dehydrated, the teeth were finely pulverized using a planetary ball mill. This powdered material was then subjected tovarious analyses, including elemental composition assessment, TTX analysis, and SEM-EDX examinations. Ca/P atomic ratiovalues of Lagocephalus suezensis, L. guentheri, Sphoeroides pachygaster and Torguigener favimaculasus teeth were obtainedas 1.58, 1.64, 1.67 and 1.47, respectively. The analysis findings suggest that pufferfish teeth could serve as a promising naturalalternative source for biomedical and various other industries in need of natural hydroxyapatite. This hydroxyapatite can beutilized for creating fillers, implants, bone powder, and prostheses with applications in biomedicine and various industries. However, it should not be forgotten that the necessary tests must be carried out before any human use is made available.

        Performance of Holstein cows subjected to different cooling sessions during subtropical summer

        Objective: This study aimed to determine the effect of different cooling sessions (CSs) as a water conservation strategy on physiological, and production responses and welfare in Holstein Friesian cows during subtropical summer in Pakistan. Methods: Twenty-one cows were subjected to three CS in a completely randomized design. The treatments were: i) eleven hours continuous cooling with sprinklers - control (CNT), ii) four CS, and iii) two CS. The CNT represented the practices of the commercial dairy farms in the area, while the other CSs were used as water reduction strategies. Each CS lasted for 1 h with a 12 min cycle (3 min water on and 9 min off) with a sprinkler flow rate of 1.25 L/min. Results: The average temperature humidity index of the shed and the outside open area were 81.9 and 82.5, respectively. The results showed that both physiological responses were highest in the 2CS group followed by the CNT and the 4CS (p = 0.001). The CNT and 4CS groups had similar milk yield (p = 0.040). The 4CS group had more lying and eating times than the CNT and 2CS groups (p = 0.000). The cortisol level in the 2CS group was 2.0 and 2.2 μg/dL more than the CNT and the 4CS groups, respectively (p = 0.000). Conclusion: In conclusion, the 4CS was more efficient in cooling the cows and had better welfare, as it yielded similar milk yield, and better physiological responses than the CNT despite using 90% less water.         Comparison of Three Internship Training Sites for an Undergraduate Health Information Management Program in Saudi Arabia

        Objectives: While internship training is well established for medical records and for healthcare quality improvement, it is not quite so for training related to IT/health informatics. A comparison was made on the hospital-based IT/health informatics internship training received by students completing their training at the Imam AbdulRahman Bin Faisal University (IAU) in the Eastern province of Saudi Arabia. Methods: The three hospitals studied all have the Joint Commission International accreditation and advanced Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems. Over the period from 2011 to 2015, interns from the IAU prepared 120 reports based on their training at these three hospitals. Data abstraction was done on the internship reports, and the results were summarized and interpreted. Results: The study found wide differences in the training received at these hospitals. The main reason for the differences is whether or not the EHR system used in the hospital was a commercial one or developed in-house. Conclusions: The hospital that had developed its own EHR system made more use of health information management interns during their IT rotation in comparison to hospitals which had adopted commercial EHR systems. Recommendations are made of both local relevance and of international relevance.

      • Women and Water Supply Development in sierra Leone

        Provision of improved wells is part of the Integrated Agricultural Development Programme (IADP) in Sierra Leone. This study surveys the wells development scheme of two Integrated Agricultural Development Programmes (IADPs). The schemes are meant to address women and their needs in rural areas. It is believed that women have to spend too much time gathering water, therefore, they are unable to be involved in economic activities-farming and trading. The schemes are meant to release labour from water collection to be used in economic activities. The time budgets of women in two villages with improved wells(Gboworbu and Kambia) and two villages without improved wells (Saina and Rolilia) are not significantly different. Improved wells in the first two villages have not saved women`s time collecting water. Improved wells are not specifically designed to benefit women directly, but it is implicit in the rhetoric of funding applications that improved water sources will strengthen and benefit women in the domestic economy.

        This paper introduces the concept of DM and explains the necessity of companding in delta coding. It compares the basic DM and ADM, and analyzes the operation of the commonly used CVSD(Continuously Variable Slope Delta) codec. The effectness of 2,3 and 4 bit adaption control algorithm are evaluated and compared. The performance of the simple resistor-capacitro adaption circuit and the effects of the adaption time constant have been evaluated. A logical design procedure has been developed from this work. The paper continues with the introduction of exponential adaption and its implementation with analog circuits. Predicted improvements are verified with the measurement of laboratory model. The gain stability of analog exponential adaption circuit is component sensitive and a digital implementation is recommended.

        Performance comparison of a standing-wave thermoacoustic engine with different resonator shapes with air working gas

        The resonator is one of the key components of thermoacoustic machines and the choice of its geometry is of course of crucial importance, as it determines the way the machine operates. The resonator must be designed so that the quality factor of the resonance is as high as possible and must satisfy the technological production constraints related to the high pressurization of the working fluid and the presence of temperature non-uniformities. The shape of the resonator can be modified to reduce certain loss phenomena, particularly on the walls, and to limit the formation of harmonics in the high-level acoustic field. In this work, an acoustic power losses analysis and a numerical study of a standing-wave TAE with air working gas, considering changes in resonator shape, are performed to investigate the effect of resonator geometry on the thermoacoustic energy conversion. The acoustic power dissipation in the resonator is analyzed based on the simplified thermoacoustic theory and the numerical study is conducted based on a 2D numerical model based on a CFD analysis. Results show that the shape of the resonator significantly affects the frequency, the temperature along the stack, and the acoustic pressure produced on the TAE. In addition, it is shown that the resonator composed of two different diameters showed its ability to produce a high acoustic pressure amplitude (20.5% than the iso-diameter resonator) and minimize the viscous and thermal losses.

        Numerical analysis of thermoacoustically driven thermoacoustic refrigerator with a stack of parallel plates having corrugated surfaces

        Most numerical research on thermoacoustic devices with a stack made of parallel plates has considered a rectangular form for the plate. However, a variety of plate shapes can improve the heat transfer and performance of the stack. In this paper, a 2D numerical model based on computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis is used to examine the efficiency of thermoacoustic couples using a diversity of plate surfaces. For this investigation, flat plates and others profiles with corrugated surfaces (rounded and triangular surfaces) were tested to compare their performances and the effect of plate form on thermoacoustic systems. The efficiency of the thermoacoustic engine (TAE) is measured in terms of the generated acoustic pressure and the performance of the thermoacoustic refrigerator (TAR) is considered in terms of the temperature gradient along the refrigeration stack. The results showed that plates profile with irregular surfaces improves the generated acoustic pressure due to the increase of the stack porosity known as the blockage ratio (BR). The triangular shape performed better with a 10% gain than using a flat plate, followed by rounded ripples with a 5.2% increase in pressure amplitude compared to flat surfaces. Unlike in TAR, it was revealed that the stack made of flatform could produce a higher temperature difference (∆T) among the refrigeration stack extremities. By using rounded ripples, ∆T undergoes a reduction up to 52%, and 65% if using triangular ripples compared to flatform. From this investigation, it is observed that the stack with corrugated plates is the most suitable for TAE; however, the flat plates generate a higher temperature difference in TAR.
