Gibbs Sampling for Double Seasonal Autoregressive Models

Amin, Ayman A.,Ismail, Mohamed A. The Korean Statistical Society 2015 Communications for statistical applications and me Vol.22 No.6

In this paper we develop a Bayesian inference for a multiplicative double seasonal autoregressive (DSAR) model by implementing a fast, easy and accurate Gibbs sampling algorithm. We apply the Gibbs sampling to approximate empirically the marginal posterior distributions after showing that the conditional posterior distribution of the model parameters and the variance are multivariate normal and inverse gamma, respectively. The proposed Bayesian methodology is illustrated using simulated examples and real-world time series data.

      • Pathological Implications of Cx43 Down-regulation in Human Colon Cancer

Ismail, Rehana,Rashid, Rabiya,Andrabi, Khurshid,Parray, Fazl Q.,Besina, Syed,Shah, Mohd Amin,Hussain, Mahboob Ul Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.7

Connexin 43 is an important gap junction protein in vertebrates and is known for its tumor suppressive properties. Cx43 is abundantly expressed in the human intestinal epithelial cells and muscularis mucosae. To explore the role of Cx43 in the genesis of human colon cancer, we performed the expression analysis of Cx43 in 80 cases of histopathologically confirmed and clinically diagnosed human colon cancer samples and adjacent control tissue and assessed correlations with clinicopathological variables. Western blotting using anti-Cx43 antibody indicated that the expression of Cx43 was significantly down regulated (75%) in the cancer samples as compared to the adjacent control samples. Moreover, immunohistochemical analysis of the tissue samples confirmed the down regulation of the Cx43 in the intestinal epithelial cells. Cx43 down regulation showed significant association (p<0.05) with the histological type and tumor invasion properties of the cancer. Our data demonstrated that loss of Cx43 may be an important event in colon carcinogenesis and tumor progression, providing significant insights about the tumor suppressive properties of the Cx43 and its potential as a diagnostic marker for colon cancer.

Retention of BioAggregate and MTA as coronal plugs after intracanal medication for regenerative endodontic procedures: an ex vivo study

Amin, Suzan Abdul Wanees,Gawdat, Shaimaa Ismail The Korean Academy of Conservative Dentistry 2018 Restorative Dentistry & Endodontics Vol.43 No.3

Objectives: This study compared the retention of BioAggregate (BA; Innovative BioCeramix) and mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA; Angelus) as coronal plugs after applying different intracanal medications (ICMs) used in regenerative endodontic. Materials and Methods: One-hundred human maxillary central incisors were used. The canals were enlarged to a diameter of 1.7 mm. Specimens were divided into 5 groups (n = 20) according to the ICM used: calcium hydroxide (CH), 2% chlorhexidine (CHX), triple-antibiotic paste (TAP), double-antibiotic paste (DAP), and no ICM (control; CON). After 3 weeks of application, ICMs were removed and BA or MTA were placed as the plug material (n = 10). The push-out bond strength and the mode of failure were assessed. The data were analyzed using 2-way analysis of variance, the Tukey's test, and the ${\chi}^2$ test; p values < 0.05 indicated statistical significance. Results: The type of ICM and the type of plug material significantly affected bond strength (p < 0.01). Regardless of the type of ICM, BA showed a lower bond strength than MTA (p < 0.05). For MTA, CH showed a higher bond strength than CON, TAP and DAP; CHX showed a higher bond strength than DAP (p < 0.01). For BA, CH showed a higher bond strength than DAP (p < 0.05). The mode of failure was predominantly cohesive for BA (p < 0.05). Conclusions: MTA may show better retention than BA. The mode of bond failure with BA can be predominantly cohesive. BA retention may be less affected by ICM type than MTA retention.

On static bending of multilayered carbon nanotube-reinforced composite plates

Ahmed Amine Daikh,Ismail Bensaid,Attia Bachiri,Mohamed Sid Ahmed Houari,Abdelouahed Tounsi,Tarek Merzouki 사단법인 한국계산역학회 2020 Computers and Concrete, An International Journal Vol.26 No.2

In this paper, the bending behavior of single-walled carbon nanotube-reinforced composite (CNTRC) laminated plates is studied using various shear deformation plate theories. Several types of reinforcement material distributions, a uniform distribution (UD) and three functionally graded distributions (FG), are inspected. A generalized higher-order deformation plate theory is utilized to derive the field equations of the CNTRC laminated plates where an analytical technique based on Navier’s series is utilized to solve the static problem for simply-supported boundary conditions. A detailed numerical analysis is carried out to examine the influence of carbon nanotube volume fraction, laminated composite structure, side-to-thickness, and aspect ratios on stresses and deflection of the CNTRC laminated plates.

      • MALAYSIAN MALAY RESTAURANTS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION CONCEPTUAL MODEL

Sarimah Ismail,Muhammad Sukri Saud,Nor Fadila Mohd Amin,Mohd. Rizal Mohd Said 세계문화관광학회 2007 Conference Proceedings Vol.8 No.0

The early 1970s saw the emergence of customer satisfaction as a legitimate field of inquiry and the volume of consumer satisfaction research has increased significantly during the last four decades. With regard to the food service industry, most restaurateurs have realised the effect of customer satisfaction on customer loyalty for long-term business survival, and have chosen to improve customer satisfaction in an attempt to achieve business goals. However, the development of a model that helps restaurateurs to understand what customers need in terms of a satisfactory experience and how those determinants can be better managed to improve satisfaction has not yet received enough attention. Therefore, this qualitative study that applied grounded theory research approach and case study research strategy has conducted in three Malaysian Malay restaurants to develop a conceptual model of customer satisfaction based on customers' experience, and not the manager's, to help managerial staff to understand the whole process of customer satisfaction in a restaurant. Data were collected adopting in-depth semi-structured interviews, participant observation, direct observation and documentary evidence. The data was analyzed using NUDIST computer software. Finding of this study views that dining experience as a service and product production process that consist of three major concepts: Input, transformation and output of the dining experience. The input of the dining experience (contains of the determinants and management of customer satisfaction), transformation of the dining experience (involves seven stages that starts from the customers' getting information about the restaurants then experiencing the dining themselves) and the output of the dining experience process (is expressed through psychological impact of pleasurable feelings that then motivate the customers to show behavioural changes: revisit the restaurant, repurchase restaurant's products and/or service, price tolerance, first choice, conveying positive word-of-mouth recommendations and showing preference. These were viewed as indicators of service loyalty).

Genetic parameters and principal components analysis of breeding value for birth and weaning weight in Egyptian buffalo

Salem, Mohamed Mahmoud Ibrahim,Amin, Amin Mohamed Said,Ashour, Ayman Fouad,Ibrahim, Mohamed Mohamed El-said,Abo-Ismail, Mohammed Kotb Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2021 Animal Bioscience Vol.34 No.1

Objective: The objectives of the current study were to study the main environmental factors affecting birth weight (BW) and weaning weight (WW), estimate variance components, genetic parameters and genetic trend and to evaluate the variability and relationships among breeding value of BW and WW using principal components analysis (PCA). Methods: A total of 16,370 records were collected from 8,271 buffalo calves. Genetic parameters and breeding values were estimated using a bivariate animal model which includes direct, maternal and permanent maternal effects. These estimates were standardized and used in PCA. Results: The direct heritability estimates were 0.06 and 0.41 for BW and WW, respectively whereas direct maternal heritability values were 0.03 and 0.14, respectively. Proportions of variance due to permanent environmental effects of dam were 0.455 and 0.280 for BW and WW respectively. The genetic correlation between BW and WWs was weak approaching zero, but the maternal correlation was 0.26. The first two principal components (PC1 and PC2) were estimated utilizing the standardized breeding values according to Kaiser method. The total variance explained by the first two PCs was 71.17% in which 45.91% and 25.25% were explained by PC1 and PC2, respectively. The direct breeding values of BW were related to PC2 but those of WW and maternal breeding values of BW and WWs were associated with PC1. Conclusion: The results of genetic parameters and PCA indicate that BW and WWs were not genetically correlated and improving growth traits of Egyptian buffaloes could be achieved using WW without any adverse effect by BW.
