      • TOWARD A MODEL FOR DISCIPLESHIP THROUGH SPIRITUAL LEADERSHIP IN SIAYA COUNTY IN REFERENCE TO EAST AFRICAN REVIVAL FELLOWSHIP IN KENYA

ALURU LAWRENCE AHAGO 고신대학교 선교목회대학원 2017 국내석사

        RANK : 232991

Siaya County, in the modern era, is a paradise as a result of the former president of the US and the many historic sites in Kenya. Siaya has its own special geographical and historical factors which, in turn, were responsible for the creation of its unique culture. Being at a highway connecting several countries to Kenya, it is believed that the residents contacted several people from different cultures. In particular, the issue of Uganda having invaded Kenya from Busia border to some parts of Rift Valley, the county seems to have gone to the dogs since it is just a few kilometers from Busia. These people were innocent victims of the conflict between the Ugandan regime and the Kenyan regime. The tragedy is considered the worst massacre of the 20th century on the Kenyan soil. In spite of the close link in terms of business activities, the wounds remain unhealed—with the material, emotional, and spiritual losses still considered as grave and unforgivable acts of social injustice. Accordingly, the Christian churches of Siaya need to address this unresolved deep pain and develop a model of what this writer is discipleship through spiritual leadership to meet this challenge. Contemporary discipleship is several kinds that Jesus want us to make. He wants disciples who obey all he has commanded. From His command, our disciple-making is not finished when we make a convert. Our disciple-making is not finished when we teach them Bible doctrine. Our disciple-making is only finished when the disciple does what Jesus commands. There is a strong demand among the fellowship in Siaya for proper discipleship to regenerate individual, family, and spiritual lives. Accordingly, this Thesis Project (T/P) will be limited to pastoral discipleship that would offer spiritual and emotional comfort to those who are suffering from political, economic, and deep social pain. The first purpose of this T/P is to develop a model of discipleship that will address the issue of idolatry, syncretism, and African Traditional Religion among others in the lives of the residents of Siaya. The second purpose of this T/P is to offer spiritual and emotional comfort to Siaya Christians and to point them toward God, who alone is the ultimate source of healing and redemption. The final purpose of this T/P is to precisely diagnose discipleship in the Kenyan church and to heal and restore the hurts and pain of modern people, particularly Siaya Residents, and mediate their encounter with God through the Holy Spirit-oriented discipleship. Chapter one takes a theoretical approach to practical discipleship through spiritual leadership. Chapter two presents a brief background of Christian in Kenya. It also deals with characteristics of discipleship in the Kenyan church and attempts a critical analysis. Chapter three deals with the theological and biblical view of discipleship. It looks at a brief understanding of what disciple is in terms of theology while on the other side it views what the Bible supports issues pertaining to discipleship. Chapter four addresses the challenges and practical principles for effective discipleship in Siaya County. It describes in detail the challenges and unveils some solutions. Finally, the summary of this study by chapter, the findings of this study, and some proposals on discipleship for the EARF and the church in Siaya are presented as a conclusion.
