Assessment of Tuta absoluta yield loss in Iranian tomato crops

        Rostami E.,Madadi H.,Abbasipour H.,Fu J.,Cuthbertson A.G.S. 한국응용곤충학회 2021 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.24 No.4

The South American tomato pinworm, Tuta absoluta Meyrick (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae), a devastating pest of tomato plants, originates from South America but it has been considered an invasive pest for Iran since 2010. To assess crop loss caused by this pest, a study was conducted in a 600 m 2 field under a randomised complete block design. The impact of different initial densities of T. absoluta, including control (without infestation), one, two, four, and eight T. absoluta eggs on each host plant in the first and second year was investigated with an additional treatment (16 pinworm eggs per host plant) used in the second year. Yield attributes including length and width of fruits, numbers of infested and intact fruits along with their weights were sampled and assessed on a weekly basis. In addition, the correlation between the number of galleries and these characteristics was also investigated. Crop loss data demonstrated that the effect of different infestation levels on fruit size and the weight of intact fruits was not significant over both years. However, the effect of treatment on the percentage and weight of infested fruits was shown to be significantly different in 2014 and 2015. Furthermore, there was a negative significant correlation between the number of galleries and weight of infested fruits in both years. Collectively, these results will be useful for enhancing pest management programs of T. absoluta in Iran

The numerical solution of dynamic response of SDOF systems using cubic B-spline polynomial functions

        Shojaee, S.,Rostami, S.,Moeinadini, A. Techno-Press 2011 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.38 No.2

In this paper, we present a new explicit procedure using periodic cubic B-spline interpolation polynomials to solve linear and nonlinear dynamic equation of motion governing single degree of freedom (SDOF) systems. In the proposed approach, a straightforward formulation was derived from the approximation of displacement with B-spline basis in a fluent manner. In this way, there is no need to use a special pre-starting procedure to commence solving the problem. Actually, this method lies in the case of conditionally stable methods. A simple step-by-step algorithm is implemented and presented to calculate dynamic response of SDOF systems. The validity and effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated with four examples. The results were compared with those from the numerical methods such as Duhamel integration, Linear Acceleration and also Exact method. The comparison shows that the proposed method is a fast and simple procedure with trivial computational effort and acceptable accuracy exactly like the Linear Acceleration method. But its power point is that its time consumption is notably less than the Linear Acceleration method especially in the nonlinear analysis.

Original Article : Effects of Dietary Supplementation with Immunogen® on the Growth, Hematology and Gut Microbiota of Fingerling Common Carp Cyprinus carpio, Linnaeus

        ( A Keramat Amirkolaie ),( B Rostami ) 한국수산과학회(구 한국수산학회) 2015 Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences Vol.18 No.4

We studied the effects of the proprietary prebiotic Immunogen® on the growth, hematology and gut microbiota of common carp fingerlings. A basal diet was formulated using common feed ingredients and supplemented with Immunogen® at concentrations of 0, 5, 10, 20 and 40 g kg.1, each of which was tested experimentally on replicated groups of fish. The trials ran for 8 weeks. Common carp fingerlings with an initial weight of 4.82 ± 0.05 g were randomly distributed among the experimental tanks at a stocking density of 25 fish per tank. The experimental diets were provided thrice per day; on each occasion the fingerlings were given a weight of feed that amounted to 4% of fish biomass. At the end of the experimental period, we determined the growth performance, feed conversion ratio, hematological parameters, body composition and gut micro-flora parameters of the test fish. Inclusion of 5 g kg.1Immunogen® in the diet significantly improved growth performance and feed utilization in comparison with controls. However, the whole-body composition of the fish was not significantly influenced by prebiotic inclusion. Inclusion of 5 g kg.1 Immunogen® significantly increased the total bacterial and Lactobacillus counts in fish intestines, but these bacterial parameters were significantly negatively impacted by higher concentrations of the prebiotic. Red blood cells counts were increased by prebiotic dietary supplementation at concentrations of 5 and 10 g kg.1 prebiotic. Glucose and cholesterol levels were elevated by administration of Immunogen®. Thus, dietary supplementation with 5 g kg.1 Immunogen® improved fingerling common carp growth performance and feed utilization, and beneficially influenced the gut microflora.

Influence of TBM operational parameters on optimized penetration rate in schistose rocks, a case study: Golab tunnel Lot-1, Iran

        A. Eftekhari,A. Aalianvari,J. Rostami 사단법인 한국계산역학회 2018 Computers and Concrete, An International Journal Vol.22 No.2

TBM penetration rate is a function of intact rock properties, rock mass conditions and TBM operational parameters. Machine rate of penetrationcan be predicted by knowledge of the ground conditions and its effects on machine performance. The variation of TBM operational parameters such as penetration rate and thrust plays an important role in its performance. This study presents the results of the analysis on the TBM penetration rates in schistose rock types present along the alignment of Golab tunnel based on the analysis of a TBM performance database established for every stroke through different schistose rock types. The results of the analysis are compared to the results of some empirical and theoretical predictive models such as NTH and QTBM. Additional analysis was performed to find the optimum thrust and revolution per minute values for different schistose rock types.

A semi-analytical solution for forced vibrations response of rectangular orthotropic plates with various boundary conditions

Rahbar Ranji A,Rostami Hoseynabadi H. 대한기계학회 2010 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.24 No.1

Orthotropic plates form an essential part of many marine, aerospace, and automobile structures. The recent increase in the use of composite materials for plate-type structures intensified the need for solutions utilizing orthotropic plates. These structural components, in many instances, are subjected to vibration. The main purpose of this paper is to present a semi-analytical analysis of the response of orthotropic plates to forced vibrations with different combinations of boundary conditions subjected to a general distributed excitation. The solution of the partial differential equation was reduced to an iterative sequential solution of ordinary differential equations using extended Kantorovich method. The efficiency and accuracy of the proposed method were examined through comparison with available literature and was in good agreement with them.

A semi-analytical technique for bending analysis of cylindrical panels with general loading and boundary conditions

Rahbar Ranji A,Rostami Hoseynabadi H 대한기계학회 2012 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.26 No.6

Cylindrical panels are structural elements widely used in engineering structures for high value of strength to weight ratio. Exact solutions of cylindrical panels are available only for a very limited number of cases. The main target of this paper is to utilize a semianalytical technique to study bending behavior of cylindrical panels with different boundary conditions under general distributed loading. The solution of the partial differential equations was reduced to an iterative sequential solution of a double set of ordinary differential equations using extended Kantorovich method. The competence and accuracy of the method is established by comparison with available results in the literature and finite element analyses which shows good agreement.

Optimization of geometrical parameters in a specific composite lattice structure using neural networks and ABC algorithm

        M. SadeghYazdi,S. A. Latifi Rostami,A. Kolahdooz 대한기계학회 2016 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.30 No.4

Due to their light weights and high load carrying capacities, composite structures are widely used in various industrial applications especially in aerospace industry. Strength to weight ratio is known to be as one of the most critical design parameters in these structures. In this paper, geometrical parameters of composite lattice structures are optimized to obtain the desired strength to weight ratio using finite element method, neural networks and ABC algorithm. At first, the finite element model is validated by experimental results and neural network is employed as the fitness function. The ABC algorithm is also applied to achieve the optimized strength to weight ratio. The results obtained from PSO algorithm on the basis of neural network have shown reasonable agreement with those of the finite element simulation. Increasing the thickness of the outer shell causes the structural strength-to-weight ratio to rise by 50 percent. The next effective parameter is reduction of rib angle which provides an increase of 30 percent in strength-to-weight ratio. Although Stiffeners (ribs) have a major role in load carrying, increasing the rib thickness causes the structural weight to rise. Thus compared with the two previous parameters, they do not have a significant effect on the strength of structures.
