Influence of Resonance Effects in the Unresolved Resonance Region on ^(232)Th Data Evaluation

A new evaluation of ^(232)Th has been completed in the unresolved resonance region (4 - 150) keV through a joint analysis of the experimental data on total and capture neutron cross sections, and self-shielding factor. Energy dependent neutron strength functions for s- and p- wave have been obtained so to reproduce the observable fluctuations in the average cross sections and to re-create the experimentally derived self-shielding factor values. The data analysis was accomplished by a statistical model based on the Wigner's theory of nuclear reactions and using a periodical cross section structure. The average resonance parameters of ^(232)Th from various evaluations have been validated by fit the self-shielding factor values. The influence of the cross section structure in the URR over the macroscopic characteristics of the reactor medium has been investigated.
