In this study, The flow characteristics of developing laminar steady flow in a 180° bend of square cross-section curved duct are experimentally investigated using laser-doppler velocimetry. The critical Dean number in a curved duct for laminar steady flows is larger rather than in a straight duct. The friction factor in a straight duct in correlated as ist=57/Rest in laminar flow region of the fully developed steady flow, and friction factors for the square duct are smaller than those for the circylar duct at the same Reynolds number. And the entrance length is well agreed with the equation, ∅=49Re1/3Rc-1/2 suggested by Austin, L. R. and Seader, J. D. in the present experimental conditions.

Paper is generally worn by the physical, chemical and biological factors which influence on the long term preservation stability resulting in preserving paper cultural assets. Generally, nano Ag and ZnO have been known to have anti-microbial functions. In this study, these have been evaluated to their effects on increasing the resistance against the biological degradation of the cultural assets. Ag/ZnO composites were prepared by photocatalytic reduction of Ag+ on ZnO with ethanol as the hole scavenger. The Ag/ZnO composite features were analyzed by XRD, SEM-EDS measurement. The photocatalytic reduction was found suitable for Ag loading due to its short reaction time and simplicity. Papers prepared with micro size ZnO (m-ZnO), nano size ZnO (n-ZnO), and Ag/ZnO addition were tested on physical, optical, and antifungal properties. The strength of the n-ZnO added paper was higher than that of the m-ZnO added paper and that of the Ag/ZnO composite added paper. The Ag/ZnO added paper showed a tendency to improve opacity, but its brightness was degenerated. The antifungal test using Aspergillus niger and Trichoderma viride confirmed antifungal property in the Ag/ZnO composite paper and ZnO particles added paper. Especially, the antifungal property was shown to have significantly increased by Ag/ZnO composite. And the smaller ZnO particle size with its higher addition increased antifungal activity in paper.

The deterioration of paper is usually caused by the environmental and biological factors. Typically, environmental factors, like temperature, humidity, and biological factors, like insects and fungi influence on the degradation of paper. Some fungi can grow on paper to deteriorate the cellulose compositions under certain environmental conditions. Zinc oxide (ZnO) is white powder having antimicrobial function. In this study, zinc oxide was added to the wet-end process in papermaking to increase the resistance to biological degradation of paper. The addition of ZnO particles showed a positive effect on the physical and optical properties of paper and on the characteristics of accelerated aging of cellulosic fibers. The effect depended on the sizes, micro- or nano-, of ZnO particles. The single polymer and micro particle retention system resulted in a higher retention of ZnO. The ash content of paper was increased with the amount of ZnO addition and it was increased more significantly with nano-size ZnO than micro-size ZnO. ZnO-added sheet had the higher tensile and larger folding endurance than CaCO₃-added sheet. The physical strength of nano-size ZnO-added paper was also higher than that of micro-size ZnOadded sheet. Under the accelerated aging treatment, ZnO-added sheet also showed superior tensile index and folding endurance.

This paper presents the technology of selective emitter for high efficiency crystalline silicon solar cell. The effect of selective emitter is analyzed by using the simulation program for solar cell, PC1D. The selective emitter shows better spectral response in short wavelength regions compared to homogeneous emitter. Therefore, the efficiency of solar cell with selective emitter can be improved by changing the sheet resistance from 60 Omega/square to 120 Omega/square. In addition, the power loss of solar cell can be minimized by optimizing width and gap of the finger electrodes on the selective emitter.

Pulmonary arteriovenous malformations (PAVMs) are abnormal direct communications between the pulmonary arteries and veins. PAVMs may occur as either an isolated abnormality or in association with hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia, also called Osler-Weber-Rendu disease. The topic of PAVM has recently been extensively reviewed, but little is known about the clinical characteristics and course of patients having a diffuse pattern of the disease. Herein, is reported a case of unilateral diffuse PAVM in an 18 year old female patient, who underwent a right pneumonectomy, under a video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) approach, as the diffuse small pulmonary arteriovenous malformation involved the whole right lung. Recently, the use of wood resources has been limited due to global environmental change, like global warming and desertification. It is very critical in Korea’s paper industries because lots of virgin pulp are dependant on direct import from abroad for printing grade of paper. In this work, the alternatively best available technique for reducing the import amounts of BKP (bleached Kraft pulp) was considered by mixing DIP (deinked pulp) and TMP (thermomechanical pulp) for the manufacture of high quality paper. Generally known, the sheet prepared from fibrous raw materials of DIP and TMP has lower strength and optical properties than that prepared from BKP. This study was aimed to improve the sheet quality by using DIP and TMP. 4 kinds of polyelectrolytes were approached to find out the best effects on physical strength and optical brightness improvements, and high retention behaviors with GCC (ground calcium carbonate). In conclusion, amphoteric PAM with 1,000,000 molecular weight (g/mol) and 0.5 charge density (meq/g) was best for the improvement of strength properties with the mixture of DIP and TMP. GCC retention rate was also the highest with cationic-PAM of above 2,000,000 molecular weight (g/mol) and about 2.0-3.0 charge density (meq/g) of strengthening agent.
