There has been a long debate whether the Sun revolves the Earth or the Earth revolves the Sun. Also, students are very interested in the solar systems, which means the entire system of planets, satellites, minor planets, comets, and meteoroids that orbit the sun. However, students are not sure about them. New models which enhance learning about them are strongly needed. This study is intended to develop the new models on the solar systems and to investigate how the presevice elementary teachers` concepts are affected by them. Subjects are 20 preservice elementary teachers. One instrument including 11 items is used. Data are collected before using the new models and after using them through the tests. As a result, learning through the new models has a positive effects on the preservice elementary teachers` concepts on the solar system.

This research is an investigation of difficulties encountered by authors of 5th and 6th grade science textbooks. The aim is to assist authors in creating more easily understandable textbooks in the future. In-depth interviews were conducted with 6 teachers who have previously taken part in the development of 5th and 6th grade texts. The responses given during these interviews were analyzed using open, axial, and selective coding as suggested by Strauss and Corbin (1998). The results are as follows: In open coding, related concepts were extracted and classified into 15 main categories and 46 sub-categories. In axial coding, the main categories were arranged into causal conditions, main phenomenon, context, intervening conditions, action and interactional strategies, and consequences wherein they were consistently related to each other based on Grounded theory. Finally, in selective coding, core categories were instilled whereby the texts being developed were categorized into conservative, progressive, and innovative to allow for easier interpretation. This was done to improve the overall quality of Science textbooks.

The purpose of this research is to find out the change in graduate students` perceptions before and after they take a class on qualitative research. The class on qualitative research was held by the researcher in the winter semester of 2009. The subjects are nine graduate students (two male and eight female) and all elementary school teachers. An open-ended questionnaire with 5 items was used. The responses were interpreted, analyzed and categorized into several main conceptions. The results are as follow: First, some students perceived qualitative research as the counterpart for quantitative research, some perceived that qualitative research supplements quantitative research, while the rest of them had no concept of either before they took the class. Second, they all agreed that qualitative research is necessary in gifted education after they took the class. In order to better understand what is happening in classrooms, in terms of gifted education, a well organized curriculum for gifted education should be developed and conducted in graduate schools.

The Korean National curriculum is divided into the curriculum, discretion, and extra curriculum activity. Extra curriculum among them consists of five grounds, that is, a self-governing, adjusting, developing, service and exercise activity. The content of developing activity among them includes academic literary arts, in that the developing activity related to science. The developing activity connected with science can be a good chance which students can have deepened learning besides a regular course. In addition, effective management in science class can play an important role to cultivate scientific sense and to raise scientific talent. The study finds out how the management connected with science-related extra-curricula activity in science is actually going on. The study carries out a questionnaire with 40 teachers and interviews 5 teachers as well who are in charge of science-related extra-curricula activity connected with science. As a result, on the side of students, ① systematic introduction course in science is not given to them, ② the course is operating without considering students interests and levels, so it causes the problems of developing their potential ability and extension. On the side of teachers, ① they organize the science department based on school`s situation and policy. ② they disregard teachers` roles and interests. ③ the science department`s program is operating improvisedly rather than systematically, ④ the evaluation is done formally is found out. I have come to know that to manage a desirable science-related extra-curricula activity connected with science needs to have sufficient, detailed materials and experts from outside.

The result of this research is that the patterns of six graders`s preconceptions in elementary school are earth`s rotation, earth`s revolution, the distance between the earth and the sun and the location factor between the sun and our country, which are mixed up with two more things. Especially many patterns of students explain the seasonal change of our country using the change of location of our country by earth`s rotation, the location factor between the earth and the sun and the distance between the earth and the sun by earth`s revolution.
