PURPOSE: This study was conducted to compare the muscle activity of the proximal muscles of the lower limb according to the distance between the front and rear foot during lunge and to determine the most effective foot position for activation of the proximal muscle in the limb. METHODS: A total of 49 young adults were enrolled in this study. All subjects performed lunge by positioning the big toe of the back foot and the heel of the front foot at intervals of 40%, 60%, and 80% of the subject's own leg length. Muscle activity of the vastus medialis oblique, rectus femoris (RF), vastus lateralis oblique (VLO), gluteus medius, biceps femoris, and semitendinosus (ST) was then measured during three intervals of lunge operation. Each operation was measured three times for 10 seconds each, after which the average value was calculated and analyzed. RESULTS: There were significant differences in muscle activities of RF, VLO, and ST among the three intervals of the foot (p<.05). Post hoc, comparisons revealed lunge at 40% intervals resulted in higher RF and VLO activity than at 60% and 80% intervals (p<.05). In the semitendinosus muscle, 80% leg length intervals showed higher muscle activity than 40% (p<.05). CONCLUSION: Strengthening of the proximal muscles of the lower extremities during lunge exercise is considered to be most effective when placing the fore- and rear foot at intervals corresponding to 40% of the leg length.

PURPOSE: The effectiveness of the stretching to increase the range of motion of the joint, reduce the risk of injury, enhance athletic performance or decrease post exercise muscle soreness. This study was to compare the effect of the stretching method applied on the shortened hamstring muscle for flexibility, strength, pressure pain threshold value and muscle tone. METHODS: This study is a two-group pretest- posttest design. Fifty-four healthy young adults were randomly assigned to a vibration-assisted stretching group (VASG, n=27) or a static stretching group (SSG, n=27). Participants performed each stretch in 4 sets of 30 seconds each. A 30-second break time was provided between the sets. The range of motion, strength, pressure pain threshold values and muscle tone of the hamstring muscle were measured to compare the effects of the stretching methods. RESULTS: Both the VASG and the SSG participants showed significant improvement in the range of motion and strength (p<.05); however, the increase in the VASG was significantly higher than that in the SSG (p<.05). The pressure pain threshold values and muscle tone were significantly decreased only in the VASG (p<.05). CONCLUSION: These findings indicate that vibration-supported stretching is an effective intervention for people with hamstring shortening, with high pain level and muscle tone decrease.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the energy intake and physical activity (PA) levels according to metabolic syndrome (MS) in Korean adult women. A total of 3,983Korean adult women participated in the cross-sectional survey using The Sixth Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 2014 to 2015. We analysed physical activity level including occupational and recreational physical activity, and energy intake with consumptions of carbohydrate, protein, and fat. In this study, moderate and vigorous intensity of recreational physical activity levels in MS group were lowered compared to non-MS group. In addition, in energy intake analysis, protein intake of MS group was significantly lowered than non-MS group in 60’s age. Based on the previous reports and our results, age specific analysis of PA and energy intake with presence of MS might be an importance basic evidence for the customized intervention of life style including PA and nutritional diet.
점증부하 에르고미터 운동 중 심박수역치(heart rate threshold)를 이용한 무산소성역치(HR<SUB>LT</SUB>, HR<SUB>VT</SUB>) 추정식 개발

In this study, we conducted graded maximum exercise test to normal people(male 112, female 108) using cycle ergometer. We calculated heart rate which corresponds heart rate threshold(HRT) and lactate threshold(LT), ventilation threshold(VT) through the test. After that, we divided data(n=220) randomly using Bernoulli"s trials. 70%(actually 70.5%) of data were used as analysis data(male 79, female 73) and 30%(actually 67.6%) were used as validity test data(male 33, female 35). Using analysis data, we conducted simple regression analysis. Independent variable was HRT and dependent variable was HRLT, HRVT which represents heart rate corresponds anaerobic threshold. The adjusted R<SUP>2</SUP> was mean 72.3% and SEE was mean 8.96 bpm. Moreover, in validity test, SEE was 8.54bpm which was similar to developed regression model. So we identified developed regression model is valid. These results show that HRT is meaningful variable to predict HRLT, HRVT and very important variable to estimate anaerobic threshold.
