        During 31 days (5 week) from December 9th 1985 to January 8th 1986, Influenza B epidemic were observed in Seoul city. Epidemic peak was shown at 52nd week in 1985. The Epidemic associated viruses were determined as B/yamanish/510/84 and B/Ann Arbor/1/86-like strain. From total of 124 specimens of influenza-like illness children virus isolation rate were average 4.0%, much lower than that of influenza A virus isolation experience. In the epidemic influenza B infection were predominantly involved in school age children.

        성대 부전 마비의 진단에서 후두 근전도 검사의 유용성

        Background and Objectives : Vocal fold paresis is a clinical condition and considered as a continuum of neurologic dysfunction encompassing partial denervation and variable degrees and patterns of reinnervation. Its incidence, clinical presentation, significance are incompletely understood and still debated. This study describes the clinical, electromyographic findings in patients who presented with complaints of dysphonia and whose laryngoscopic finding revealed vocal fold paresis. Materials and Method : 47 patients (male : 25, female : 22) who referred to Ewha Womans University Medical Center Voice clinic for evaluation of vocal complaints were enrolled in this study. All patients had undergone a through history and physical examination including strobovideoscopic and laryngoscopic examination. Patients with in the history and/or laryngoscopic examination suggestive of vocal fold paresis were evaluated by laryngeal electromyography (LEMG). Results : Of these patients, 23 (48.9%) were found to have evidence of neuropathy on LEMG. There was no significant difference in voice symptoms and laryngoscopic findings between two groups of patients with evidence of neuropathy and who show normal findings on LEMG. Conclusion : LEMG can clinically help to guide the evaluation and management of vocal fold paresis. Due to some limitations of LEMG, laryngoscopic findings and clinical correlations should also be considered when diagnosing the vocal fold paresis.

      • 흰쥐 대퇴신경의 복합신경전도검사

        목적: 실험용 흰쥐에서 대퇴신경전도 검사를 정확히 시행할 수 있는 방법 개발 및 정상치 확인을 목적으로 하였다. 방법: 실험용 흰쥐의 뒷다리 피부를 절개하여 대퇴신경을 노출시킨 후 침전극을 사용하여 복합신경전도검사를 시행하였다. 결과: 1) 흰쥐에서 피부 절개를 통한 대퇴신경의 전기생리 검사인 복합신경전도검사는 비교적 간단하고, 일관된 검사결과를 얻을 수 있었다. 2) 신경전달속도의 평균은 35.45.6m/sec이었다. 3) 복합신경활동전위의 진폭은 개체간의 차이가 커서 본 실험방법에서는 신경의 전도 상태를 나타내는 정확한 인자로 사용하기에 어려움이 있을 것으로 판단된다. 결론: 본 신경전도검사 방법은 비교적 간단하면서도 신경전달속도 결과치가 정확하고 실험용 흰쥐에서 여러 차례 반복 시행할 수 있어서 말초신경병의 연구와 신경접합술 등의 술기와 관련된 실험 연구에서 그 결과를 확인할 수 있는 검사방법으로 사용될만한 것으로 판단된다. Objectives : To develop a proper electrophysiologic techniques for examining the rat femoral nerve. Methods : 10 Sprague Dawley rats were use to perform the electrophysiologic study of the exposed femoral nerves by surgical incision. Needle electrodes were used to stimulate the nerves and to obtain the compound nerve action potentials of those nerves. Results : The normal conduction velocity of femoral nerve in this method is 35.4±5.6m/sec and the mean amplitudes of compound nerve action potentials were 40.6±32.8μV. The data of conduction velocity was quite reliable with narrow ranges of standard deviations. But the compound nerve potentials amplitudes data showed wide ranges of variations among individual rats. Conclusion : The techniques and resultion data of femoral verve conduction of rats are described in this article. Even though this technique needs surgical incision exposing the noninvasiveness and rapid healing of the surgical wound in the rats. This verve conduction study method of examining femoral nerve in rats is relatively easy, accurate and repeatable techniques that permits visual and microscopic observation of the exposed nerves during the nerve conduction study.

      • 흰쥐말초신경에서 반복검사가 가능한 운동 및 감각신경의 비침습 전기생리검사

        There has been a need for animal experimental models to study the peripheral nerves to evalute the peripheral neuropathy. However, electrophysiologic test methods to confirm peripheral neuropathy in small experimental animals has mot been properly addressed due to technical difficulties and also the limitation of numbers of examinations due to the invasive natures of previous techniques of peripheral nerve conduction studies in experimental animals. The purpose of this experiment is to find out easy, reliable and noninvasive repeatable technical of nerve conduction study of peripheral nerves of rat. The electrophysiologic tests including motor and sensory nerve conduction studies were performed in both hind limbs of 64 rats. And the results were reported with detailed description of techniques. The mean value(±SD) of motor nerve conduction velocity was 41.8±3.0m/sec and that of the sendory nerve conduction velocity was 29.7±1.7m/sec and they showed stable results. In addition to its accuracy, this technique is a relatively simple and nonivasive repeatable methods of nerve conduction study of rat. But the amplitudes of compound muscle action potential(CMAP) and compound nerve action potential(CNAP) revealed wide ranges of variability.

      • 실험쥐에서의 비침습적 경추부체감각신경유발전위검사

        실험용 동물로 가장 많이 사용되는 흰쥐에서 쉽고 정확하게 시행할 수 있는 경추부 체감각신경유발 전위검사 방법에 대하여 자세히 기술하였으며 이방법으로 얻은 유발전위의 정상치에 대하여 기술하였다. Somatosensory Evoked Potential(SEP) is a useful study in animal experiments as well as in evaluation of human diseases. But in animal experiments most methods of obtaining the potential are difficult and usually require surgical or complex procedures. In this article easy and accurate methods of obtaining cervical SEPs is presented in addition to its normal data of 55 female Spraque-Dally rats. Another advantage of this methods is that serial studies are possible because of its relative noninvasiveness.

      • 신경계 질환 환자에 대한 영양보충제 '뉴케어'의 임상적 효과

        연구목적: 질병의 경과에 미치는 영양상태의 중요성은 이미 알려져 있지만, 임상의사가 직접 환자를 대할 때는 영향 결핍 상태를 흔히 간과하게 된다. 본 연구는 연하곤란으로 영양불량 상태에 있는 신경계 질환 환자군에서 영양보충제인 뉴케어를 경구 투여하였을 때, 환자의 질병 회복과 영양상태의 개선에 미치는 임상적 효과를 평가 하고자 하였다. 연구방법: 뇌졸중, 뇌출혈, 노인성 치매 등의 신경계 질환으로 연하장애 상태에 있는 환자들을 대상으로 하여 영양보충제인 뉴케어를 투여한 후 혈액학적, 혈액화학적 변화와 주관적 부작용 등을 평가하였다. 결 과: 연구에 사용한 여러 척도 가운데 혈장 알부민치와 영양지수의 변화가 유의하게 나타났다. 뉴케어를 투여한 군에서 혈장 알부민이 전ㆍ후 각각 44.6 48.2로 전ㆍ후 각각 44.6, 44.1를 보인 대조군에 비해 유의한 증가를 보였다.(p<0.05). 몇 몇에서 설사가 나타나기도 하였으나 투여를 중단할 만한 뚜렷한 부작용은 관찰되지 않았다. 결 론: 이상으로 신경계 질환 환자에서 뉴케어는 혈청 알부민과 영양지수의 증가를 일으켰으며, 안전하고 효율적인 영양보충제로 생각된다. Patients suffering from neurological disorder, such as cerebral infarctoin, often face serious swallowing difficulty and malnutrion. Although the importance of nutritional support has been well demonstrated, malnutrition remains a frequently neglected condition in the clinical setting. In this study, we investigate the effectiveness of enteral nutritional support to neurological patients using nutritional beverage Nucare. 50 patients with acute and chronic neurological disease with eating problem were participated. 27 patients(experimental group : 17, control group :7), fed more than 7 days, were selected and statically analyzed by the changes of hematologic, biochemical parameters and nutritional index compared with control roup(p<0.05), which are good predictors of nutritional and hospital outcome. This suggests that enteral nutritional support with Nucare can improve the nutritional status and clinical outcome of patient with acute and chronic neurological disease.
