This paper presents a mixed linear and integer goal programming (GP) model to aid in strategic planning and scheduling of guard soldiers. The proposed model is a general-purpose model, hence can be used to produce an optimal schedule with respect to any user-provided combination of guard post objectives and soldier preferences. We extensively test the usefulness of the model on a real-life dataset from a guard post in the ROK Army with using three objectives set by the guard post and three preferences provided by individual solders. Numerical results and analysis from these experiments show that the proposed guard scheduling model efficiently as well as effectively generates an optimal guard schedule and can also be used for an optimal revision of any existing schedule. In summary, these illustrate that the proposed model can be practically used for optimal planning and scheduling of guard soldiers in guard posts.

LAD(Logical Analysis of Data)는 Boolean-logic에 기반을 둔 데이터 마이닝 방법론이다. The logical analysis of data(LAD) is a Boolean-logic based data mining tool. A critical step in analyzing data by LAD is the pattern generation stage where useful knowledge and hidden structural information in data is discovered in the form of patterns. A conventional method for pattern generation in LAD is based on term enumeration that renders the generation of higher degree patterns practically impossible. In this paper, we present a novel optimization-based pattern generation methodology and propose two mathematical programming models, a mixed 0-1 integer and linear programming (MILP) formulation and a well-studied set covering problem (SCP) formulation for the generation of optimal and heuristic patterns, respectively. With benchmark datasets, we demonstrate the effectiveness of our models by automatically generating with ease patterns of high complexity that cannot be generated with the conventional approach.

This paper presents a mixed integer goal programming (GP) model to aid in strategic planning and scheduling of guard soldiers. The model we develop in this paper is based on the model proposed in Azaiez and Sharif[1] and is a general-purpose model that can incorporate various guard post objectives and soldier preferences. The usefulness of the model is evaluated on a real dataset, obtained from a guard post in ROK Army. The objectives used in the experiments are guard post objectives, including ensuring a continuous guard duty with appropriate combat skills and an equal assignment of military education and training time, and soldier preferences, including the number and ratio of off-days and his preference to be on guard duty with close fellow soldiers. Experimental results demonstrate that optimization-based guard scheduling is effective, in regard to generating a schedule that satisfies the objectives considered, and efficient, in terms of time it takes for generating a schedule.

In this paper, we show that classical statistical process control (SPC) techniques can be used for monitoring portfolio performance and use them to develop an automatic portfolio revision procedure. Next, we extensively test the SPC-based portfolio management procedure on historical data of stocks traded in the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). Measured against the performances of the NYA index during the same time periods, the results produced in these experiments illustrate that SPC-based portfolio revision presents a convenient and reliable means for monitoring portfolio performance.
