The present study aimed to clarify unsteady flow characteristics of the industrial motors. High-resolution CCD camera(2k×2k, ES 4.0) and Nd-YAG laser were adopted to clarify flow characteristics of the motor Quantitative velocity distribution and related flow information was presented and macro flow structure, generated via the motor axis and the cooling fan, also was investigated. Moreover, from the velocity field data, discharge flow rate through the air duct was compared at each measuring sections.

In this study, we performed the CFD analysis to predict the cooling performance of the motor for golf-car application. The motor for the golf-car is different from the general motors in the cooling method and the operating condition. So, it is important to predict the motor's temperature generated by the electric losses. We investigated the inner temperature rise using the unsteady state analysis and compared with the experiment for the reliability evaluation of the CFD results through the present study.

Self-blast circuit breakers utilize the energy dissipated by the arc itself to create the required conditions for arc quenching during the current zero. During the arcing period, high pressure, temperature and radiation of the arc could burn in pure SF6 gas and PTFE nozzle. Ablated nozzle shape and SF6-PTFE mixture vapor affect the performance of an self-blast circuit breaker. But it is hard to simulate the behavior of hot gas, prediction because of complex physical behavior including radiation, calculation of electric field. Using computational fluid dynamics, the conservation equation for the gas and temperature, velocity and electric fields within breaker can be solved. Performance of ablated nozzle shape are compared with original model.

High-voltage auto-expansion circuit breakers utilize the ablation of polytetrafluoroethylene(PTFE) nozzle to produce adequate conditions for arc quenching at current zero. The high-current simulation provides information about the mixing process of the hot PTFE cloud with the SF? gas which is difficult to access for measurement. But it is also difficult to simulate flow phenomenon because the flow in interrupter with high current and SF?-PTFE mixture vapor, complex physical behavior including radiation. Using the PC based PHOENICS, a commercial computational fluid dynamics(CFD) package, the conservation equation for the gas and temperature, velocity and electric fields within breaker can be visualized and thermal interruption capability predicted. These numerical results will reduce the number of costly short-circuit test.
대용량 변압기용 쿨러의 냉각특성에 관한 수치해석적 연구

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the thermal and hydrodynamic characteristics of the cooler system in a large power transformer. The cooling system consists of a pin-tube, fans and an oil pump. To predict the cooling capacity and the pressure drop according to the oil flow, numerical analysis has been conducted using the commercial finite-volume code, FLUENT and the results are compared with the experimental data. The experimental and numerical results shows a good agreement for all the range of oil flow rate.
수정된 Hardy-Cross법을 이용한 전동기내 유량 분배 해석

Modified Hardy-Cross Method is introduced to analyze the flow rate distributions in a motor. The Hardy-Cross Method has been used to analyse the water pipe networks. In this paper, some calculation parts of this method are changed in order to apply the air pipe systems. The computed results were verified by the comparison with a commercial CFD package FLUENT analysis. The flow rate distributions in a motor are investigated analytically.

This study describes aerodynamic characteristics for the HAWT (Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine) rotor blade using general CFD code. The aerodynamic analysis results are validated with the experimental result by the NREL (National Renewable Energy Laboratory)/NASA Ames wind tunnel test for S809 airfoil. In the case of wind turbine rotor blade. complex phenomena are appeared such as flow separation and re-attachment. Those are handled by using a commercial flow analysis tool. The 2-equation k-ω SST turbulence model and transition model appear to be well suited for the prediction. The 3-dimensional phenomena in the HAWT rotor blade is simulated by a commercial 3-D aerodynamic analysis tool. The optimal Tip Speed Ratio is predicted by using the GH Bladed which is a design tool for wind turbine.

This research describes on airfoil shape design, crucial to core technique and algorithm optimization for the wind turbine blade development. We grasped the parameter to define the airfoil shape in the wind turbine blade and aircraft, and the important performance characteristic of the airfoil. The airfoil shape function is selected by studying which is suitable for wind turbine blade airfoil development. The selected method is verified by to compare the generated airfoil shape with base airfoil. The new airfoils were created by the selecting shape function based on the well-known airfoil for wind turbine blades. In addition, we performed aerodynamic analysis about the generated airfoils by XFOIL and estimated the point of difference in the airfoil shape parameter using the aerodynamic performance results which is compared with basic airfoil. This result data applies to the fundamental research for a wind turbine blade optimization design and accomplished the aerodynamic analysis manual.

In this paper, the numerical analysis of the model without air-guide was carried out in wind power generator. From numerical results, the temperature rise was not satisfied for the class F insulation and the non-uniformity of temperature distribution was a wide difference in heating elements. To improve these problems, the air-guide was installed in front of the coil head of non-drive end(NDE). The short distance between coil head and air-guide was more effective than long distance in cooling performance. Compared to that of the preliminary design, it was found that the cooling performance of the modification design was improved about 12%.
