        The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of mental practice accompanied by anxiety relaxation music therapy on golf putting Learning The subjects, forty male students in H Middle School, Who were willingly applied for the experiments, were divied into four groups (each group has 10 subjects) : the group for physical training, physical training accompanied by anxiety relaxation music therapy, mental-physical training, and mental training accompanied with music for anxiety relaxation therapy before physical training. The results of the experiments through 10 pre-tests, 60 acquisition phase, 20 retention phase were analyzed One-way ANOVA, which was the supplementary program of SPSS/PC+. In order to ascertain any differences among the groups another analysis was performed by Tukey's HSD. The results were the followings. 1) Mental Practice was effective to improve Golf Putting Learning. 2) Anxiety Relaxation Therapy Music was effective to improve Golf Putting Learning.

      • Synergistic Effect and Antibiofilm Activity Between the Antimicrobial Peptide Coprisin and Conventional Antibiotics Against Opportunistic Bacteria

        <P>Coprisin is a 43-mer defensin-like peptide from the dung beetle, Copris tripartitus. In this study, we tested its minimum inhibitory concentration and performed combination assays to confirm the antibacterial susceptibility of coprisin and synergistic effects with antibiotics. The synergistic effects were evaluated by testing the effects of coprisin in combination with ampicillin, vancomycin, and chloramphenicol. The results showed that coprisin possessed antibacterial properties and had synergistic activities with the antibiotics. To understand the synergistic mechanism(s), we conducted hydroxyl radical assays. Coprisin alone and in combination with antibiotics generated hydroxyl radicals, which are highly reactive oxygen forms and the major property of bactericidal agents. Furthermore, the antibiofilm effect of coprisin alone and in combination with antibiotics was investigated. Biofilm formation is the source of many relentless and chronic bacterial infections. The results indicated that coprisin alone and in combination with antibiotics also had antibiofilm activity. Therefore, we conclude that coprisin has the potential to be used as a combinatorial therapeutic agent for the treatment of infectious diseases caused by bacteria.</P>

        The antimicrobial effects of silver (Ag) ion or salts are well known. Recently, silver nanoparticle is attracting an interest in a wide ariety of fields since it has been known to be safe and effective as an antimicrobial agent against a broad spectrum of microorganisms. Although silver nanoparticle has been applied to various kinds of products owing to its potent antimicrobial activity, the effects of silver nanoparticle on microorganisms and antimicrobial mechanism have not been revealed clearly. In this paper, we summarized the characteristics, antimicrobial activities and mechanisms, cytotoxicity and applicability of silver nanoparticle.

      • Synergistic antibacterial and antibiofilm effect between (+)-medioresinol and antibiotics in vitro.

        <P>In this study, antibacterial effects of (+)-Medioresinol isolated from stem bark of Sambucus williamsii and its synergistic activities in combination with antibiotics such as ampicillin, cefotaxime, and chloramphenicol were tested by antibacterial susceptibility testing and checkerboard assay. (+)-Medioresinol possessed antibacterial effects against antibiotics-susceptible- or antibiotics-resistant strains. Most of combinations between (+)-Medioresinol and each antibiotic showed synergistic interaction (fractional inhibitory concentration index 0.5) against bacterial strains including antibiotics-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Furthermore, the antibiofilm effect of (+)-Medioresinol alone or in combination with each antibiotic was investigated. The results indicated that not only (+)-Medioresinol but also its combination with each antibiotic had antibiofilm activities. It concludes that (+)-Medioresinol has potential as a therapeutic agent and adjuvant for treatment of bacterial infection.</P>

        Indole-3-carbinol Generates Reactive Oxygen Species and Induces Apoptosis

        <P>Cruciferous vegetables contain glucobrassicin which, during metabolism, yields indole-3-carbinol (I3C). The aim of this study was to find whether indole-3-carbinol caused apoptosis and its mechanism in <I>Candida albicans</I>. We found that treatment of <I>Candida albicans</I> with indole-3-carbinol significantly increased the reactive oxygen species and hydroxyl radical accumulation. The hydroxyl radical is one of the most active components of oxygen, and it is the end product of an oxidative damage cellular death pathway. We investigated the general phenotypes of apoptosis and then investigated whether there were other distinct markers of apoptosis. Furthermore, the effects of thiourea as a hydroxyl radical scavenger and protective effect of trehalose, which is the result of the fungal immune system, was also assured. This study indicates that indole-3-carbinol has apoptosis effects, including a production of hydroxyl radicals, cytochrome <I>c</I> release and activation of metacaspase. Both hydroxyl radicals and metacaspases triggered apoptosis in <I>Candida albicans</I>.</P>

      • Synergistic effects between silver nanoparticles and antibiotics and the mechanisms involved

        <P>Silver nanoparticles (nano-Ags), which have well-known antimicrobial properties, are used extensively in various medical and general applications. In this study, the combination effects between nano-Ags and the conventional antibiotics ampicillin, chloramphenicol and kanamycin against various pathogenic bacteria were investigated. The MIC and fractional inhibitory concentration index (FICI) were determined to confirm antibacterial susceptibility and synergistic effects. The results showed that nano-Ags possessed antibacterial effects and synergistic activities. The antibiofilm activities of nano-Ags alone or in combination with antibiotics were also investigated. Formation of biofilm is associated with resistance to antimicrobial agents and chronic bacterial infections. The results indicated that nano-Ags also had antibiofilm activities. To understand these effects of nano-Ags, an ATPase inhibitor assay, permeability assay and hydroxyl radical assay were conducted. The antibacterial activity of nano-Ags was influenced by ATP-associated metabolism rather than by the permeability of the outer membrane. Additionally, nano-Ags generated hydroxyl radicals, a highly reactive oxygen species induced by bactericidal agents. It was concluded that nano-Ags have potential as a combination therapeutic agent for the treatment of infectious diseases by bacteria.</P>

        Development Process of FPGA-based Departure from Nucleate Boiling Ratio Algorithm Using Systems Engineering Approach

        This paper describes the systems engineering development process for the Departure from Nucleate Boiling Ratio (DNBR) algorithm using FPGA. Current Core Protection Calculator System (CPCS) requirement and DNBR logic are analyzed in the reverse engineering phase and the new FPGA based DNBR algorithm is designed in the re-engineering phase. FPGA based DNBR algorithm is developed by VHSIC Hardware Description Language (VHDL) in the implementation phase and VHDL DNBR software is verified in the software Verification & Validation phase. Test cases are developed to perform the software module test for VHDL software modules. The APR 1400 simulator is used to collect the inputs data in 100%, 75%, and 50% reactor power condition. Test input signals are injected to the software modules following test case tables and output signals are compared with the expected test value. Minimum DNBR value from developed DNBR algorithm is validated by KEPCO E&C CPCS development facility. This paper summarizes the process to develop the FPGA-based DNBR calculation algorithm using systems engineering approach.

        Silver nanoparticles induce apoptotic cell death in <i>Candida albicans</i> through the increase of hydroxyl radicals

        <P>Silver nanoparticles have been shown to be detrimental to fungal cells although the mechanism(s) of action have not been clearly established. In this study, we used <I>Candida albicans</I> cells to show that silver nanoparticles exert their antifungal effect through apoptosis. Many studies have shown that the accumulation of reactive oxygen species induces and regulates the induction of apoptosis. Furthermore, hydroxyl radicals are considered an important component of cell death. Therefore, we assumed that hydroxyl radicals were related to apoptosis and the effect of thiourea as a hydroxyl radical scavenger was investigated. We measured the production of reactive oxygen species and investigated whether silver nanoparticles induced the accumulation of hydroxyl radicals. A reduction in the mitochondrial membrane potential shown by flow cytometry analysis and the release of cytochrome <I>c</I> from mitochondria were also verified. In addition, the apoptotic effects of silver nanoparticles were detected by fluorescence microscopy using other confirmed diagnostic markers of yeast apoptosis including phosphatidylserine externalization, DNA and nuclear fragmentation, and the activation of metacaspases. Cells exposed to silver nanoparticles showed increased reactive oxygen species and hydroxyl radical production. All other phenomena of mitochondrial dysfunction and apoptotic features also appeared. The results indicate that silver nanoparticles possess antifungal effects with apoptotic features and we suggest that the hydroxyl radicals generated by silver nanoparticles have a significant role in mitochondrial dysfunctional apoptosis.</P>

        위선의 문제에 대한 『孟子』의 응답 -출토문헌 『五行』과의 교차독해를 중심으로-

        맹자는 공자의 후계자를 자처하지만 둘 간에는 적지 않은 사상적 불연속이 존재한다. 전국시대 사상가들은 예(禮)의 실천에 기반한 덕(德)의 수련이라는 공자의 기획이 갖는 위선성을 신랄하게 고발하는데, 본 논문은 맹자와 공자 사상 사이간의 차이가 이 과정에서 야기된다는 점을 논한다. 20세기 이후 축적된 출토 문헌 연구는 이 내막을 자세히 확인할 수 있게 한다. 특히, 『오행』 은 『맹자』와 도덕수양에 관한 핵심적인 관념을 공유한다. 두 문헌은 모두 내면의 덕으로부터 나온 도덕 행위와 피상적인 도덕 행위를 첨예하게 구분하고, 진정한 도덕수양의 결과는 심리/신체의 변화로 명백히 드러난다고 주장한다. 이와 같은 ‘체화된 덕(embodied virtue)’관념은 『오행』과 『맹자』가 위선의 문제에 응답하면서 제출한 입론이다. 그리고 이는 공자 그리고 당대의 다른 유(儒)와도 차별화되는 지점이다. Mencius claims to be Confucius" successor, but there is a considerable ideological difference between the two. Thinkers of the national era harshly criticize the hypocrisy of Confucius" plan of training of virtue based on the practice of ancient times, which was differentiated in the process of responding to this problem in their own way. Differences between the ideas of the blind and Confucius also arise in this process. Research on the excavated literature accumulated since the 20th century provides a detailed view of the interior. In particular, "xuxing" shares the core notions of moral self-cultivation with Mencius. After sharply distinguishing moral and superficial morality from inner virtue, the idea of "embodied virtue" is a unique way to respond to the problem of hypocrisy, which claim that the result of true moral discipline is clearly revealed by changes in the body. And this is a point that sets Confucius apart from the rest of his time.
