This paper aims to investigate the effects of teaching English through magic to first grade middle school students. The experimental group and the control group were chosen based on their pretest results and were compared after 10-week treatments in the following two areas: academic achievement and affective domain. The results are as follows. First, the experimental group showed better performance in the post-test than the control group. In addition, a significant statistical difference in the post-test scores was also observed between the two groups. The post written test was composed of three parts: vocabulary, grammar, and reading comprehension. Among the three parts, the participants in the experimental group demonstrated the most noticeable improvement in reading comprehension. A significant statistical difference between the two groups occurred only in reading comprehension. Second, concerning affective domain, the subjects in the experimental group showed substantially enhanced interest and motivation, although they did not show as much confidence as interest. This result implies that using magic in English class is useful and effective to stimulate learners’ interest and intrinsic motivation. Third, according to questionnaire results collected from both the 31 participants and 15 secondary teachers who participated in the study, more than 50% of them responded that using magic in English class helped them greatly with their English learning and teaching respectively.
DC/DC 강압컨버터의 PWM-IC 제어기의 TID 및 SEL 실험

DC/DC 컨버터는 임의의 직류전원을 부하가 요구하는 형태의 직류전원으로 변환시키는 효율이 높은 전력변환기이다. DC/DC 컨버터는 PWM-IC(펄스폭 변조 집적회로) 제어기, MOSFET(산화물-반도체 전계 효과 트랜지스터), 인덕터, 콘덴서 등으로 구성되어있다. 코발트 60 (<SUP>60</SUP>Co) 저준위 감마발생기를 이용한 TID실험에서 방사선의 영향으로 PWM-IC의 전기적 특성중에 문턱전압과 옵셋전압이 증가되고, SEL에 적용된 4종류의 중이온 입자는 PWM-IC의 파형을 불안정하게 만든다. 또한, 입/출력관계의 파형을 SPICE 시뮬레이션 프로그램으로 관찰하였다. PWM-IC의 TID 실험은 30 Krad 까지 수행하였으며, SEL 실험을 제어보드를 구현한 후 LET(MeV/㎎/㎠)별 cross section(㎠)으로 연구하였다. DC/DC switching power converters are commonly used to generate a regulated DC output voltage with high efficiency. The DC/DC converter is composed of a PWM-IC (pulse width modulation-integrated circuit) controller, a MOSFET (metal-oxide semiconductor field effect transistor), inductor, capacitor, etc. It is shown that the variation of threshold voltage and the offset voltage in the electrical characteristics of PWM-IC increase by radiation effects in TID (Total Ionizing Dose) testing at the low energy γ rays using <SUP>60</SUP>Co, and 4 heavy ions applied for SEL (Single Event Latch-up) make the PWM pulse unstable. Also, the output waveform for the given input in the DC/DC converter is observed by the simulation program with integrated circuit emphasis (SPICE). TID testing on PWM-IC is accomplished up to the total dose of 30 krad, and the cross section(㎠) versus LET(MeV/㎎/㎠) in the PWM operation is studied at SEL testing after implementation of the controller board.
