This study examined the formation, dismantlement, and representation of Gwangju Eup-Sung space in a historical context. According to 18th-19th century data, Eup-Sung space was the political and administrative functional center and the symbol of the royal power of the dynasty. During the Japanese occupancy, Eup-Sung was dismantled and became the colonial space. Eup-Sung space which was the symbol of Chosun dynasty`s authority and political and administrative center was replaced by Japanese modern residential, commercial and financial space. Recently, Gwangju-Folly Project was implemented for the historical representation of Eup-Sung space. However, many problems have emerged due to the absence of communication between personnels in charge of the project and citizens in general. The lack of understanding of Eup-Sung, Folly, regional characteristics and residents`` life led to indifference to Folly and went as far as to damage it. Therefore, this study suggests the representation of the Folly with the participation of residents and also aesthetic things which include living and social factors, and the meaning of tradition.
