      • 비극적 긴장과 희극적 완화 : Dr . Faustus 를 중심으로

        In his plays Marlowe enchances the main action of his tragedy by reducing it to absurd scenes. In order to express the ludicrous gap between aspiration and any possible fulfillment and to describe the tragic sense resulted from the misdirected desire, he uses the elements of farce, the lower form of comedy. This farcical elements with a savage humor ironically foreshadows the play's tragic ending. It alleviates tragic tension as a comic relief, and also increases the tragic sense as an incentive to it. In Dr. Faustus, Marlowe describes both tragic and ludicrous corruption of Faustus's mind that destroys the soul. Faustus is a limited creature who is possessed by a desire to overcome completely his frustrating, mortal finiteness. The desire to be more than human is finally no different from wanting to be godlike. But this means Faustus's tragic fall. All attempts to achieve perfect self-realization inevitably fail. In this play the ludicrousness of the aspiring mind transformed into his doom is at the same time tragic and farcical. Faustus's action is repeated by Wagner and other Clowns. Through this action, the tragic and farcical elements are nearly merged. Dr. Faustus begins as a dark satire and ends as a satiric tragedy of knowledge. This play can be said as profound irony of man as a sinful, limited creature, obliged to accept humbly the limitations of his life. In a sense, Faustus is a learned fool. These fool-like characters evoke our laughter. But their destruction is tragic. In conclusion, the comic and tragic views of life no longer exclude each other. Comedy and tragedy are identical in the extreme. Human life, at its depths is inherently absurd, and farce can tell us more things about our situation than tragedy can. In these respects, Marlowe is one of the greatest playwrights who are capable of mixing the tragic and farcical elements in their plays by simultaneously showing sympathy and contempt as well as pity and fear.

        Scalaran-type sesterterpenes from a Marine Sponge Smenospongia species showing the AMPK activation

        A new scalaran class sesterterpenoid with five known ones was isolated from a marine sponge Smenospongia species collected from the Gageo island, Korea. Chemical structure of all of compounds was determined on the basis of a combination of extensive 1D and 2D NMR experiments and MS data. The new compound exhibited a new functional group on a common scalaran sesterterpene skeleton, identified as 12-deacetoxy-23-deacetoxyscalarin. The compound 1 moderately showed the effect of the activation of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) in L6 myoblast cell.

        이 논문은 후손의 심신을 더 향상하기 위한 자연과학적인 접근의 시도이다. 사람을 출생이나 수태보다 훨씬 전인 미립자 (quark)부터 완전한 인격체로 보고 대우하는 관점이다. 크게 두 단계 ① 새 정자 생성과 난자 준비에서 착상까지와 ② 착상 후 태교와 초유 수유까지로 구분하였다. 1단계는 1개월간 후손을 디자인하고, 3개월간 음식과 운동과 생각으로 그런 아기를 잉태할 정자를 개발하고 난자를 준비시키며, 2개월간 안전한 수정과 착상까지 수행한다. 2단계는 착상된 배아가 설계된 대로 태아가 되고, 엄마와 아기가 건강하고 안전하게 자연 분만 후 초유 수유까지 10개월간 엄마 아빠는 물론 온 가족이 협력하여 태교를 수행하여 그의 일생 건강과 안정의 기초를 쌓는다. 1단계에는 선조들의 임신 전 100일 기도 관행과, 1801년 사주당 이씨가 쓴 세계 최초의 태교 단행본 ‘태교신기’의 주장과, 이의 과학적 근거가 되는 양자의학과 후성유전학과 신경과학과 양자물리학 등을 적용한다. 2단계는 다양한 태교 과학 및 뇌 발달 중심으로 양자의학과 뇌 과학 및 양자물리에서 필요한 사항을 적용하여 생후 자신의 환경에 적응을 준비하게 하였다. 21세기의 총포 없는 전쟁 중 하나인 종자 개발 연구와 노력은 농축산물에 적용하는 것보다, 인간에게 적용하는 것이 훨씬 더 급하고 결정적이라고 본다. 이는 빅뱅 우주역사를 확증하는 양자역학이 이를 충분히 보증할 것이다. This paper is a natural scientific approach to further improving the mind and body of posterity. It is the view of treating a person as a full person from a quark far before birth or conception. There are two main stages: ① New sperm generation and egg preparation to implantation; and ② After implantation, prenatal care and nursing colostrum. The first stage is to design a posterity for one month, develop sperm to conceive such a baby with food, exercise and thoughts for three months, prepare eggs, and carry out two months of safe fertilization and implantation. In the second stage, implanted embryos become fetuses as designed, and mothers and babies are healthy and safe for 10 months to natural delivery and nursing colostrum. In the first phase, the ancestors' 100-day prayer practices before pregnancy, the claim of the world's first preaching monograph “Taegyo Shingi” written by Lee Sajudang in 1801, and the quantum medicine, epigenetics, neuroscience, and quantum physics that underlie its scientific basis, are applied. In the second stage, various prenatal sciences and brain development centered on the needs of quantum medicine, brain science and quantum physics, have fetuses prepare to adapt to their environment after birth. Seed development, one of the gun-sword free wars of the 21st century, is much more urgent and critical to apply to humans than to agro and livestock. And quantum mechanics confirming the big-bang universe history will fully guarantee this.

        Four new cyclic peroxides from the Marine Sponge Plakortissimplex

        Four new cyclic peroxide compounds (1 ~ 4) were isolated from the marine sponge Plakortis simplex. Their structures including relative stereochemistry were determined by MS and NMR analysis. All compounds, a side carbon chain with 10 carbons, were very unstable. After transformation into methyl ester analogues, the structure determination was conducted. Compounds 1a and 2a are stereoisomers, assigned as 3S*, 4S*, 6R* and 3R*, 4S*, 6R*, respectively. Similarly, compounds 3a and 4a, replaced the methoxy group with an aliphatic methyl, are also stereoisomers. Compounds 1a and 2a exhibited the strong antifungal effect against the fungus Candida albicans.

        물여뀌 에탄올 추출물의 미백 효과

        The purpose of this study was to investigate the melanogenesis inhibiting activity of the ethanol extract from Polygonum amphibium L. Firstly, the n-hexane (Hx), chloroform (CHCl3), ethyl acetate (EA), n-butanol (BuOH), and water (Water) fractions were isolated from the P. amphibium L. ethanol extract. The efficacy of melanogenesis was found to significantly decrease via the EA and BuOH fractions when compared to the control in B16F10 cells. EA particularly showed the lowest melanin content in B16F10 cells when compared to all the other extracts. Concentration-dependent inhibition of melanin synthesis was also observed in the EA fraction at concentrations below 50 μg/ml, which did not exhibit cytotoxicity in B16F10 cells. Notably, the expression of three key proteins (tyrosinase, tyrosinase-related protein-1 (TRP-1), and TRP-2), which are involved in melanogenesis, were significantly decreased via the EA fraction. EA also inhibited body pigmentation in vivo in a zebrafish model. Overall, we demonstrated melanogenesis suppression using the EA fraction from P. amphibium L., which could be a potential candidate for an antimelanogenesis agent.

        『몰타의 유대인』의 다양한 장르 탐색

        Christopher Marlowe dramatizes his vision of tragedy through the unavoidable doom of Barabas’ single-minded efforts to enjoy great wealth in The Jew of Malta. He enhances the main action of his tragedy by reducing it to various absurd scenes with a bitter satire. The inconsistencies of their words and actions function as an important factor of farce, the lower form of comedy. While the self-contradictory absurdity of human efforts is quite tragic, it can be farcical. He grasps these two aspects of his characters, and dramatizes the tragic elements juxtaposed with farcical elements. By mingling the tragic and farcical elements, he shows sympathy and contempt as well as pity and fear, and maximizes their reciprocal effects. These alleviate tragic tensions as a comic relief and furthermore show the meaning of human life which is inherently absurd and farcical. As a consequence, he provides the audience with serious meaningfulness by leaving it still open to various types of genres: Machiavellian tragedy, tragedy of revenge, tragedy of irony, farcical tragedy, melodrama, tragic farce, black comedy, city comedy and so forth.         Felicia Hemans’ Strengthened Domesticity as a Patriotic Piety

        In The Domestic Affections and Other Poems, Hemans elucidates that womanly virtue resides in purity, domesticity and piety. She refined and promoted the feminine themes and subject matters which were important to develop a woman’s role serving as a response to the social climate of that day. The social participation of women was extremely restricted. In an era when woman’s subordination to man was regarded as natural, female literary participation could not help being a sphere of writing restricted only to female writers. In her proper sphere, her home, Hemans’ language of sense was totally relied upon the auditory sense and auditory images at first. Her empirical self cannot but be limited in her own sphere. She, however, aspires to expand her poetic realms. So she invokes the poetic muse to help her possess the insight, an inward eye. The inward eye keeps her introspection profound. Constructing her own literary true sphere, her domestic affections fortifies her true womanhood. Especially, her domestic affections are expanded to the extent of love for her motherland, Britain, which is as good as the expanded sphere of her own home. As she feels grief in her patriotic mind, however, she relies upon the religion. Through piety, she builds up her mental fortitude in the times of strife for women.
