        Littman et al. (1968) reported that a high level of immunity of a long duration against Ehrlich carcinoma was produced in CFA white Swiss mice by UV-irradiated homologous Ehrlich carcinoma ascites tumor cell and suggested that the immunity produced by irradiated, killed tumor cell vaccine was primarily cell mediated. Lee and Kim (1972) reported that from the result of an autoradiographic observation the proliferation of small round cells around the tumor mass was distinct. Kang & Kim (1972) and Koh & Kim (1972) also reported that in the immune mice proliferation of large lymphoid cells in the thymus-dependent area of the spleen and the axillar lymph nodes was prominent. Recently Parey (1968) postulated that stem cells originating in hemopoietic tissue and differentiating into immunoglobulin and antibody-producing cells could develop and function normally without being directly or indirectly influenced by the thymus gland, whereas this differentiation occurred under the influence of lymphoepithelial tissues of the intestine, especially appendix. We made an attempt to observe autoradiogaphically the response of the appendiceal lymphoid tissue of the immune mice following subaxillar transplantation of Ehrlich carcinoma. The results were as follows: In the immune mice proliferation of large lymphoid cells in the appendiceal lymphoid tissue was prominent 5 days after the subaxillar transplantation of Ehrlich carcinoma.

        It is a well known fact that tumor immunity is mediated by cell-mediated immune reaction and that in the cell-mediated immune raction a small thymus-dependent lymphocyte transforms into a large pyroninophilic cell at the thymus-dependent area-paracortical area of the lymph node and periarterial sheath of the spleen in response to an antigen, which will elicit either a delayed hypersensitivity reaction or an allograft rejection response (Baker et al. , 1962; Parrott et al. , 1966). Littman et al. Kwon and Kim (1972) observed a high level of immunity was produced in mice against subctaneously implanted Ehrlich carcinoma by intraperitonal mounting of diffusion chamber containing live tumor cells. In this paper an attempt was made to observe the response of thymus-dependent area both of spleen and lymph node of the mice following active immunization with live Ehrlich ascites tumo- cells in diffusion chamber mounted in the peritoneal cavity. The results were as follows: In the immune mice, the appearance of large lymphoid cells both in the paracortical area of the lymph node and the periarterial sheath of the spleen was prominent.

        It is a well known fact that immunotherapy of tumor consists of active immunization, passive immunization, adoptive immunization and treatment with immunogeneic nucleic acids. It has now been firmly established that active immunization of a susceptible animal with live tumor cells given in subliminal dose, with properly killed tumor cells, or with the oncogenic virus establishes immunity and solid resistance to challenge with either the oncogenic virus or with tumor cells. Kown and Kim (1972) observed a high level of immunity was produced in mice against subcutaneously implanted Ehrlich carcinoma by mounting of diffusion chamber containing live tumor cells and suggested the immunity produced by live tumor cell was cell--mediated. It is also a well known fact that in the cell-mediated immune reaction a small thymus-dependent lymphocyte transforms into a large pyroninophilic cell at the thymus-dependent area-paracortical area of the lymph node and periarterial sheath of the spleen, in response to antigen, which will elicit either a delayed hypersensitivity reaction or an allograft rejection response (Parrott et al. , 1966). In this paper we made an attempt to observe the response of thymus-dependent area both of t .e spleen and the lymph node of the survived mice following active immunization with live Ehrlich ascites tumor cell in intraperitoneally mounted diffusion chamber against subcutaneously challenged tumor. The results were as follows: Proliferation of large lymphoid cells in periarterial sheath of the spleen and paracortical area of ! i the mesenteric lymph node and tile development of paraccri.cal area of the nicserteric lymph node was prominent in the survived mice 40 days after subaxiilar challenge. of E arlich ascites tumor, which is inoculated 4 or 5 weeks after mounting or 2 weeks after removal of mounted diffusion chamber for 1 or 2 week duration.
